  1. As I sit here and read the responses for this topic, I think back to when I was in nursing school (2009-2011). I felt the same way. But now that I have some experience under my belt, you have no understanding of pressure. You may think that the nursing instructor staff is being unfair or extra mean, trust me that they are not. When you have a patient in front of you that is seconds from crashing you may then understand why your instructors were so hard on you. Please understand that you are, at best, receiving a BASIC nursing education. As far as 'critical thinking' goes, you use it all day, everyday! For the moment you clock in until you clock out, nurses are constantly asked to make difficult decisions. Do yourselves a favor, sit back, shut up and learn!
  2. i hope that you mean that your facility is discouraging overtime. it would be against the law for the facility to not pay overtime to an hourly employee..
  3. The OP stated that they looked in the patients chart and MAR. Correct me if I am wrong, but as this person is a CNA and not a med tech, it would be a HIPAA violation and therefore the CNA could be reported to the BON...
  4. What I find amazing with this whole thread is it should be about the hiring practices in our hospitals, but rather it has turned into a man-bashing thread. If I would have started a female-bashing thread, it would be deleted and I would be scolded for not being supportive of others on teh board.
  5. I personally think that you should pursue what you want and the rest will fall in line.
  6. Maybe I am the devil's advocate, but how is this post relevant to allnurses? Correct me if I am wrong but is this not the place for nurses to chat with other nurses?? I am sorry for the OP's issue, but this is not why I come here...
  7. despite you having the "legality' of 'medicinal' pot, its still a federally controlled substance. No matter what paperwork you have, you do not have a case. Don't believe, ask a lawyer.
  8. NOBODY can tell me NOT to chart something! PERIOD!!!!
  9. When I read this post, at first I felt some form of sympathy towards the OP. But then I reread the post I felt angered. For starters what persona do you refer to? Unless you are a nurse, you do not have any idea what it takes to be a nurse. Secondly, I feel the reason that you were not accepted into nursing school, is that everything about you and your 'persona' reeks of too much ego. While in some areas of the country we are in need of nurses, we are not in need of another big headed person and their 'persona.
  10. I would start with focusing on becoming a nurse FIRST!! Once you have some experience, you might have a better understanding on what type of nurse you wish to become..

is there another type of nursing??
  12. according to whom?? I practice in Florida and the FL BON has not mentioned this.
  13. There is nothing simple about getting a DUI! You chose to put the lives of everyone around at risk. At a minimum you should have your license revoked for 5 years to drive home the severity of the choice you made.
  14. I was born and raised in Sacramento (not that far north of Modesto) and for the most part your assessment is correct.
  15. SyberianPuppy... There is a definite reason why the people on this website question one's motive on why they want to become a nurse. You stated in your original post that you have always wanted to be a doctor but due to time spent with patients and cost you wanted to become a nurse instead. People here take great offense to those that think that becoming a nurse is the "low road" compared to being a doctor. The roles of nurse and doctor GREATLY vary!! As for MD vs NP, both may taught nearly the same material, but the roles vary GREATLY!! You seem to be hung up on what diagnostic skills you will be taught in nursing, but what you need to consider is the rest of the nursing profession. My suggestion is this: if you heart lies in becoming a doctor, then money should not be the issue (you will make plenty enough in the future to pay for your student loans). If, on the other hand you want to become a NURSE practitioner, then you should want to become a NURSE FIRST!! 1) you need to get accepted to nursing school, 2) you need to graduate from said nursing school, 3) you need to get your license, 4) you need to gain experience as a NURSE then you may apply to an NP school. Do not put the cart before the horse......
