can I work as a CNA if my RN license is inactive??
well she said when I do the CNA certification the registry will show that I'm an RN with inactive license. Or she said I need to have taken my nursing fundamentals within 2 years in order to get certification. I know..... I was surprised too. She said SC don't have a restriction saying that you can't work as a CNA if you have RN. and she said most don't work as CNA they all work as RNs. I know it's confusing to me too. So I thought I'm gonna get my RN reactivated and find a nursing job, although it's gonna be a long road.

can I work as a CNA if my RN license is inactive??
Update: I called the SC BON and they didn't have an answer for my question. So they directed me to the place where they do SC Nursing Assistant registry. According to her I need to have an active RN license if I want to practice as a CNA. I can't be a CNA if I have an inactive RN license. SO I might as well renew my RN license and do my CNA certification both. I know.... I know.. why work as a CNA if I have RN.... Like I said before it was very hard for me to find a RN job as a fresh graduate. That is the reason I though I'll be a CNA/PCT first and get my foot in the door first and get healthcare experience, then work my way up to work as a nurse. Thank you for those who provided useful comments and being helpful. Those who have been through the immigration process actually will understand how time consuming , overwhelming and how expensive it is. But let's not go off tracks. I didn't want to start a debate . I remember my mom saying "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say nothing at all"

can I work as a CNA if my RN license is inactive??
Thank you everybody for commenting. I don't have to be an American citizen to work here. I already have work authorization. But I still haven't renewed my RN license. I thought I could work as a PCT or a CNA and get experience before becoming a Nurse. I do know that there is a big difference between CNA work and RN work. But my intention was to get hired as a CNA or PCT and gain some kind of healthcare experience and make connections while I'm in that place. Like I said before when I graduated from RN school I couldn't find a job as fresh graduate. I didn't have any experience as well as I was given only 1 year of work authorization. So my license was valid only for 1 year. On top of that government gave me only 3 months to find a job , It was a tough time and I couldn't find a job within 3 months. to answer the question why did it take 11 years for us to get green card....... well sometimes we wonder the same thing. My husband came here to do his post graduate studies on student visa. After finishing his studies he's been working on drug discovery research and he worked his butt off to get qualified to apply for green card. He had to publish research papers not just one more than 10, and that took some time. As his work is of national interest ( cancer, diabetic, pain research) finally he was approved for green card. So this green card is very valuable for us because my husband earned it. Not like many other people who come here he had to work towards that. so that's why it took us 11 years to get green card. I know some people get it very easily but some people have to work towards it. I understand most people don't know about these immigration issues unless they go through it. And no you don't have to be a citizen to work here. Thank you again everybody. but please be nice, no need to be rude here.

can I work as a CNA if my RN license is inactive??
My South Carolina RN license is in inactive status since 4/2014 as I didn't have work authorization to renew it. I recently finished a CNA course ( state certification testing pending) because I wanted to work at least as a CNA and get healthcare experience. I have never worked as an RN. Now I have work authorization ( we have been granted green card after 11 years in the US :) ) and looking to apply for PCT /CNA jobs. I'm kind of lost, do I mention that I'm an RN ( inactive license) in my cover letter/ resume? In my opinion I should mention. But when I mention they would not even look at my resume after that. My other concern is am I allowed to work as a PCT/ CNA even if my RN License is inactive? I don't plan on re-activating it until I find a CNA/ PCT job and have worked in that job for at least 1 year. I tried to find it in SC board of nursing web site but I can't find anything regarding that. I have been trying to contact the board but they are closed since before Christmas. I know I should have contacted them before the CNA course. But I'm glad I took it because it was kind of like a little refresher course for nursing fundamentals. what do you guys know/think? Thank you in advance :)

Suggested Nursing exam help Books
2 books- fundamentals success & test success : test taking techniques for beginning nursing students by Nugent and Vitale are very good. I loved the test success book more. I only bought the fundamentals success book and got the test success book from the college library. I also have a science background and before starting nursing school I thought my memorization skills was not going to help me any more in the NS. But I think they did help me to get through 1st semester. I'm waiting for the second semester to begin. Good luck !:)

Please help! I need to find EBP article about physical assessment of the heart
Hi all, I'm stuck in this assignment. For my skills lab I need to present an EBP article on heart assessment. I spent like 2 whole days in front of the computer trying to find one about heart assessment. It has to be fairly new too ( written after 2008). Muy school provides some good data bases for free. but still I can't find any new ones. If anybody knows how to find EBP practice guidelines for heart assessment please let me know. Thank you in advance. Plaese I need at least something to present :-(

You know you are a Nursing student when...
..........When I have 3 cumulative final exams, 2 skills check offs ( including 2 presentations to the group regarding an EBP journal article written on that skill ), 2 quizzes, and 5 chapters that I intend to read before finals ( yeah right!) ......all within 2 weeks. .........When you wake up in the morning to see 10 -15 roaches crawling in your kitchen ( YES, they have been ruling my kitchen since I started last January.... I'm sad.... because I used to rule it, but not any more. .....waiting for summer break to get rid of them). A big thank you to the one who invented the paper cups and plates. :redpinkhe ......when you get a 5 minute break while you are studying, to go play with your pre-schooler and come back in 3 minutes ( good thing they still don't know how long 5 minute really is... at least my one). And I still feel like I spent some quality time ( 3min) with him. YES 2 more weeks . hang in there ..me. ..

What is primary medical diagnosis?
Hi all, I just started nursing school and we are supposed to write about the pathophysiology of our patient's primary diagnosis. My patient is a 84 year old lady. She has so many medical diagnoses and I can't figure out which one is her primary diagnosis ( she has muscle weakness, vascular dimentia, hypertension, ischemic heart disease, altered mental status, ....). Her reason for admission to the long term care facility is, cardiac pacemaker. Is that the primary diagnosis? is the primary diagnosis, the diagnosis that the LTC physician identified at the time of her first admission? please someone help me at least direct me to a place I can find it. I tried to google it but can't really find a good answer. Thank you in advance.

Hello all, Quick question, What's included in the Pima Nursing tote? I remember at the orientation they said do not buy used ones and don't open the new ones. So I can't open it and see if the following things are there :) Are bandage scissors, pen light, and hemostat included in the tote? If not where can I buy those things? Can someone please help with this question? Thank you in advance.:)

Tucson Nurses/ students, how did /do you find sick child care??
Hello all, I will be starting my ADN in pima CC in Spring 2011. I have a son who is not in school yet. I'm planning on putting him in a day care center f/t when I start school. My husband will be mostly out of town and I have no family in Tucson either. I have this problem, what can I do when my son gets sick?? We all know kids get sick easily in a day care center setting. How can I find sick child care for my son if the day care center doesn't accept sick children. I can't stay home with him specially on clinical days and at the rate they get sick I can't miss that many classes either. So, does anyone know of a place that accept sick kids/ or a normal day care center with a sick kid section? Or an individual care giver who is willing to look after sick kids? How can I find someone? Usually how much they charge for a sick child? I tried Craigslist , but the response is not good. I know there are some sites on the internet / care agencies that provide sick child care but they need 24 hour notice. How do I know when is my kid going to get sick? And the rate is too high too. My husband is the only one working and we are on a budget. I need emegency back up child care. How did you ,nursing students / nurses find sick child care in Tucson? Please help, PM me if you know of a place or a person. Sorry this is long. Thank you in advance.

How much did you pay for books your first year?
Really? that would be great. because my school book store says that they are not supposed to give the ISBNs. And we don't know ISBNs and the exact book title/edition unless we buy books from them( the book store web site gives very limited info about books) The books we need some times come in a bundle in a shrink wrap. so we have to buy the whole bundle. Can't return them either because they do not issue a full refund if the bundle has been opened
