  1. If the landlord said he would make improvements for security purposes the last time, you have a police report for both (all three?) of the burgleries, and he did not make the improvements... I would get a lawyer and have the lawyer request that your landlord reimburse you for the stolen goods and shred the lease. If you had a verbal assurance from the landlord to make improvements and they did not.. hold them accountable.
  2. Seth, I'll email you shortly. I hope the naturopaths get the bill into an acceptable format. That would be a very good thing for the CAM community.
  3. You are quite correct that would be an error. Neither should be assumed. However the only "guarantee" (insofar as anything is certain) is that someone who has passed a multiple choice test had certain book knowledge available when that test was taken. They may be most adept. They may also a hack. Similarly a village/barefoot doctor can only be assumed to have been convincing to patients in the past. They might be adept. They might also be a hack. It largely depends on the situation. I personally would want a person with a very strong neigung foundation, quite apart from the clinical skills or the book knowledge (both of which are highly desirable). This determination is highly challenging and generally suspect in any event, which is the irreducible problem with holism. But I'm sure you knew that.. you are a smart guy. I'm afraid I'm not following you on this one. I understand Wuxing principle of course, are you implying some sort of relationship between the creative/destructive cycle and the question of acupuncture education? I also note (sadly) you didn't bother to answer the "how long have you been doing neigung?" question.. As I said.. it's not that I don't think you are largely correct.. I just think there should be some wiggle room for the outliers. Most folks in the fat part of the bell curve should be learning from books, especially in today's society (IMO).
  4. Former corpsman, attending ST school, decided to go ahead and get the ADN/RN out of the way. Studying for the ESSENTIALS OF NURSING CARE: HEATH SAFETY, intending to schedule it next month. I've done upper-division Psych tests via Excelsior.. so hopefully these nursing tests won't be too much worse if I'm adequately prepared.
  5. Danny, As I understand it.. you pay for exam fees if you test out of the exams. You pay for courses it you take the courses. I'm taking the exams. I'm quite confident in my ability to pass Associates level Nursing finals (after all.. three upper-division psychology exams from Excelsior were no biggie)). Why take the courses? They have online exam content outlines, buy the books from amazon (etc.) and just study and take the test. Excelsior College exams are not "tricky". They say "here are things that can be on the test". You study those things.. you pass. It's not like the psycho crap you hear about traditional nursing school courses. I would at least take the first exam after studying hard and see if you do well on it. If you hose it.. well that's a few hundred dollars that says you are the sort that needs to take the course.
  6. Former navy medic. Presently working on a CST and an RN. Should be done by the end of the year and have my eye open for a VA spot in my area. Have zero interest in rejoining active or reserves though. VA is the good of military involvement, without most of the bad IMO.
  7. That's horrible. My sympathies to the successors of the Marine Hospital Service.
  8. "Soldier An' Sailor Too" by Rudyard Kipling As I was spittin' into the Ditch aboard o' the ~Crocodile~, I seed a man on a man-o'-war got up in the Reg'lars' style. 'E was scrapin' the paint from off of 'er plates, an' I sez to 'im, "'Oo are you?" Sez 'e, "I'm a Jolly -- 'Er Majesty's Jolly -- soldier an' sailor too!" Now 'is work begins by Gawd knows when, and 'is work is never through; 'E isn't one o' the reg'lar Line, nor 'e isn't one of the crew. 'E's a kind of a giddy harumfrodite -- soldier an' sailor too! An' after I met 'im all over the world, a-doin' all kinds of things, Like landin' 'isself with a Gatlin' gun to talk to them 'eathen kings; 'E sleeps in an 'ammick instead of a cot, an' 'e drills with the deck on a slew, An' 'e sweats like a Jolly -- 'Er Majesty's Jolly -- soldier an' sailor too! For there isn't a job on the top o' the earth the beggar don't know, nor do -- You can leave 'im at night on a bald man's 'ead, to paddle 'is own canoe -- 'E's a sort of a bloomin' cosmopolouse -- soldier an' sailor too. We've fought 'em in trooper, we've fought 'em in dock, and drunk with 'em in betweens, When they called us the seasick scull'ry-maids, an' we called 'em the Ass Marines; But, when we was down for a double fatigue, from Woolwich to Bernardmyo, We sent for the Jollies -- 'Er Majesty's Jollies -- soldier an' sailor too! They think for 'emselves, an' they steal for 'emselves, and they never ask what's to do, But they're camped an' fed an' they're up an' fed before our bugle's blew. Ho! they ain't no limpin' procrastitutes -- soldier an' sailor too. You may say we are fond of an 'arness-cut, or 'ootin' in barrick-yards, Or startin' a Board School mutiny along o' the Onion Guards; But once in a while we can finish in style for the ends of the earth to view, The same as the Jollies -- 'Er Majesty's Jollies -- soldier an' sailor too! They come of our lot, they was brothers to us; they was beggars we'd met an' knew; Yes, barrin' an inch in the chest an' the arm, they was doubles o' me an' you; For they weren't no special chrysanthemums -- soldier an' sailor too! To take your chance in the thick of a rush, with firing all about, Is nothing so bad when you've cover to 'and, an' leave an' likin' to shout; But to stand an' be still to the Birken'ead drill is a damn tough bullet to chew, An' they done it, the Jollies -- 'Er Majesty's Jollies -- soldier an' sailor too! Their work was done when it 'adn't begun; they was younger nor me an' you; Their choice it was plain between drownin' in 'eaps an' bein' mopped by the screw, So they stood an' was still to the Birken'ead drill, soldier an' sailor too! We're most of us liars, we're 'arf of us thieves, an' the rest are as rank as can be, But once in a while we can finish in style (which I 'ope it won't 'appen to me). But it makes you think better o' you an' your friends, an' the work you may 'ave to do, When you think o' the sinkin' Victorier's Jollies -- soldier an' sailor too! Now there isn't no room for to say ye don't know -- they 'ave proved it plain and true -- That whether it's Widow, or whether it's ship, Victorier's work is to do, An' they done it, the Jollies -- 'Er Majesty's Jollies -- soldier an' sailor too! ---------------------------------- the "Birkenhead drill" is "women and children first" from Wiki... "HMS Birkenhead, also referred to as HM Troopship Birkenhead or steam frigate Birkenhead,[2] was one of the first iron-hulled ships built for the Royal Navy.[3] She was initially designed as a frigate, but was converted to a troopship before being commissioned.[1] On 26 February 1852, while transporting troops primarily of the 73rd Regiment of Foot to Algoa Bay, she was wrecked at Gansbaai near Cape Town, South Africa. There were not enough serviceable lifeboats on board for all the passengers - however the soldiers famously stood firm, thereby allowing the women and children to board the boats safely. Only 193 of the 643 people onboard survived, however the soldiers' chivalry gave rise to the "women and children first" protocol during the procedure of abandoning ship, while the "Birkenhead Drill" of Rudyard Kipling's poem came to describe courage in face of hopeless circumstances."
  9. It is indeed. I hope some of these links will help your friend out. http://surgtech.gulfcoast.edu/ (looks to be totally distance for didactic) http://www.kirkwood.edu/site/index.php?p=11778 (looks like it's satellite institutions) http://www.spencerian.edu/louisville/surgical_tech.asp (no apparent useful DL info) http://www.southeast.edu/academics/program_surgical.asp (didactic online) http://www.cvtech.org/Chickasha/Full-Time%20Programs/Surgical+Technology%2A (looks like satellite school programs) http://www.presentation.edu/AlliedHealth/FairmontSurgTechHome.htm (no DL info apparent) http://www.lccc.wy.edu/Index.aspx?page=424 (looks like it's satellite/hybrid moel) Again.. best of luck to your friend! I'm having alot of fun learning to scrub, I hope he/she enjoys it.. if they choose to pursue it!
  10. My bad. Should have ignored the thread. Best of luck to your friend!
  11. I order Genuine Wildebeest Urine from overseas. The pheromones it contains make me irresistible.
  12. Oh I'm sure the OP was infuriated by the outcome. They are in the MILITARY. "We've fought 'em in trooper, we've fought 'em in dock, and drunk with 'em in betweens, When they called us the seasick scull'ry-maids, an' we called 'em the Ass Marines; But, when we was down for a double fatigue, from Woolwich to Bernardmyo, We sent for the Jollies -- 'Er Majesty's Jollies -- soldier an' sailor too! 13. From the outside.. was a corpsman at Bethesda. Spent a good bit of time around PHS Commissioned Corps. They were, on the whole, much nicer people than the USN personnel. Also the men can wear beards, and since their uniforms are sea service.. their Captains actually look like f00king Captains of days of yore. "The Navy has evolved in the last 200 years. It used to be rum, sodomy and the lash. Now it's just dumb sodomy and no cash."
  14. Google is our friend. http://hubpages.com/hub/surgical-tech-schools "Most states have CAAHEP accredited surgical tech schools, including Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, West Virginia, and Wyoming. Some of these states have more accredited programs available than others, but if there aren't many programs near you there are other options. For those who do not live near one of the accredited surgical tech schools, there are eight accredited schools that offer online or distance options. These are the Gulf Coast Community College in Florida, Kirkwood Community College in Iowa, Spencerian College in Kentucky, Southeast Community College in Nebraska, Canadian Valley Technology Center in Oklahoma, Lockhaven University of Pennsylvania, Presentation College in South Dakota, and Laramie County Community College in Wyoming. If you are interested in an online program check these out to see which would best meet your needs."
  15. Josh, How long have you been practicing neigung? 5 years? 10? What good is alot of book knowledge of the points if the needle is dead? De qi and cultivation says nothing about a multiple choice test. I'd rather trust my health to a barefoot doctor with nothing but skill, than I would to someone who was purely a needle mechanic. Now that's not to say all or even most nurses have that understanding.. but you should leave some wiggle-room for the exceptional cases.. you never know what someone may have learned from shrfu. I hope your practice is most fruitful.
  16. I'm working on an RN, but the second I have it I will expand an quiet existing non-commercial TCM practice into something larger. It's simply amazing how much a nursing license will let you do! It looks like you need 1 year post RN and a Bachelor's to get the HN-BC credential though.
  17. Nizhoni, This may be necro-threading (resurrecting a dead thread from beyond the grave) but I starting doing some digging and it looks it may be possible, depending on one's state, for a nurse (with some work) to effectively do TCM without falling afoul of the law. In TN herbology and medical qigong are totally unregulated. Tuina falls under massage, but the TN Massage Practice Act specifically exempts a list of licensed health professionals (RNs, MDs, podiatrists, some others) from being restricted under that Act. This got me curious and I wondered what the status of acupuncture is... It turns out (in my state TN) that the State Code specifically allows licensed physicians to do acupuncture and call themselves acupuncturists.. but it also provides for an RN to do acupuncture if they are " nationally certified as holistic nurses and who have successfully completed an accredited education program in acupuncture..". So basically it looks like an RN (in my state anyway) could (if they acquired the right background) arguably stay well within the law without going out and spending the money on a Masters in Oriental Medicine. I'm glad to have found this out.. since some states (like mine) have no formal TCM schools at all. I would check with a lawyer or read the state code where you live carefully. You might find wiggle-room.
  18. I would like to thank all the traditional nursing students for venting. I now know there is not an ice cubes chances in Hades I would be caught dead in a normal nursing school. If I need the degree I can get it distance. My heart goes out to those trapped. I begin to understand why the Navy nurses I knew were such horrible people.. they'd been to nursing school... you beat a good dog enough.. it will snarl at even a friendly person.
  19. Thanks Zen. The irony of phrasing everything in terms of Qi/ki/energy to avoid scope of practice issues.... well it's DELICIOUS!
  20. Congratulations!
  21. Thanks for all the replies on this thread. It's most enlightening!
  22. Buddy, Have you ever encountered Medical Qigong in a hospital setting? Just curious as Reiki seems so more widespread... How does the Reiki program at your hospital operate? I would have PMed you.. but I'm below the 15 post min. :)
  23. Just a newb.. but would like to thank those who contributed to the thread. It makes it much clearer. Question though.. is there a perioperative CNS? I have heard of NP's doing the RNFA role, and of course there is the CRNA. I'm assuming both of these (NPs and CRNAs) are characterized as APNs right? Is there a CNS/APN in the perioperative area besides these two possibilities?
  24. Is the assumption that without access to the insurance payors that a clinic is commercially non-viable?
  25. Shodobe, I will investigate it carefully. Thank you for the heads up. I suspect TN will be less troublesome (from my POV) than Cali would be (phew!). I have another 5 months of didactic before clinical rotations begin, and I've asked for my second clinical (the second 3 month rotation) to be done at my preferred prospective employer. Hopefully the OR director will have need of a bright person with an immense capacity to tolerate BS :)
