Just fly here and have a professional mover move your car and belongings which the hospital will pay for as long as it is under the budget which is $5,000. I don't think it'll be a big cultural shock for you as it is for me. There are numerous African American around here believe it or not. Plus the air force base is just 13 miles away from downtown. I'm asian and I only probably saw 5 asians for the last 4 weeks.

Hello, What a coincidence! I'm from California too and have been working for Trinity hospital for the last 4 weeks. I can't really give you a very accurate information about the facility because I'm new here and still learning their system. First make sure you land an apartment before moving here. Housing is ridiculously competitive. About the hospital.... I like their charting system, everything is computerized and paperless. They have a rotating shifts so one week you're on a day shift and the following week you're on nights. The hospital orientation lasted for two weeks and I felt like it was very repetitive and "useless" since I've learn majority of it from nursing school. Right now, I'm assigned with a wonderful supportive preceptor and I enjoyed working with her. Depending on which unit you'll be working on, the one-on-one preceptor lasts for 6-16 wks.

Does anyone know if Regional Medical Center of San Jose will have a new grad program this Fall 2008. Their website specify that they'll be having one for August 2008 but its not posted yet.

Hi starburz, I applied to this program, but have not heard anything. The nurse recruiter won't be back till Monday but I heard through the grapevine that they'll start calling people next week. Let's just hope that our phone rings for the good news that we've been patiently waiting for.

I'm grateful for being blessed with wonderful families whom I loved unconditionally for loving and supporting me despite my shortcomings. Thankful for being surrounded by friends who are very understanding, forgiving, and accepting for the mistakes I've made throughout the years. I'm appreciative of my ex-boyfriend who taught me the true meaning of love and life ( a priceless lesson). Finally, I'm most thankful that God have surrounded me with all these people to make my life easier and bearable in every waking moment.

I'm in the same situation as you are, I graduated December of last year. Though it is depressing and frustrating at times, I tried to keep a positive outlook in the future. In the meantime (of being unemployed), I'm volunteering in ER in one of the hospitals and familiarizing myself with EKG in preparation for ACLS certification. I think this will help me stand out amongst the other appplicants. These take efforts but it is a necessary steps to market myself to the organization. Just hang in there, the sun will hopefully shine soon :wshgrt:

I am Filipino who has been perusing most of the threads in allnurses for the last few weeks and the "racism" you mentioned is definitely nonexistent. Yes, I have to agree that Filipino nurses had been mentioned in few threads especially when it comes to importation of foreign nurses but I didn't feel/read that nationalist is present.

I have been hunting for a job for the last three months. No luck! I'm waiting this April/May to apply for the Summer and Fall 2009 new grad program. Luckily, the hospital in the bay area that I have been working for for the last 4 years have a new upcoming grad program. I already spoke to the manager and she took my resume. Hopefully, she's willing to take me in. But I'm still applying to several hospitals around California to increase my chances of landing a job. I just can't put all my eggs in one basket.

Apply online, then bypass nurse recruiter and go directly to the manager of the unit you're interested in and hand deliver your resume. That's my plan this upcoming Summer and Fall 2009 program. Furthermore, I plan to volunteer into the organization to familiarize myself with the facility and will be taking the necessary certification such as ACLS, PALS etc. to make myself stand out of hundreds of applicants. Hopefully this strategy of mine will work :)

UCSF have a really good "new grad" program which might start on August. Go to their website for more information.

(((HUGS))) to everyone who just recently graduated and are located in the northern CA. The "new grad" program is just horribly limited at this point because of the hiring freeze and budget constraints. I peruse all the hospitals in the surrounding area and new grad will not reopen till August of 2009. That means half of the students who just graduated in the vicinity area last December 2009 will be competing against the nursing students who will be graduating this summer. I'm just so frustrated searching and receiving interminable rejection letters from the organization I applied to as they're not currently hiring a new grad. As for the meantime, I'm thinking of volunteering for the next few months in the hospital (of my interest) and even considering the probability of even moving out of the area just to get a year of experience. :urgycld:I hope the economy will be better and the sun will come out for those people who needed it. Hoping tomorrow will be a much better day for all of us!

This is very disappointing. Just like OP, I graduated on December 2008 and I'm still hunting for a job.

I have the same "phobia" as you are, so what took my CNA license to desentized myself. I love nursing and I would not let any "stool" stop me from reaching my dreams :)...not even the green ones.

During my rotation in locked in psych department, a patient in his 20s on 5150 hold came up to me and offered to give me his address so I can visit him the following day for a cup of coffee. A physician walked up to me and said, Hi I am a physician and your name is? :stone So much for self-confidence. While I was in nursing school, a male nurse asked me where to insert the catheter because he forgot the anatomical location. :smackingf Nurse on the med-surg floor asked me what "Fesat" stands for? Look into the doctor's order and told her that it was iron saturation. What school did she go to? :dzed:

I found out today that I passed the NCLEX. Yipppppeee! Studying for HESI really paid off.

ALF06 hang in there. This is only a little bump on the road, you have multiple opportunities to show that you really are destined to be a nurse. Just keep your head up high and no doubt that you will soon become a nurse. Take care!
