How much time to study for exams 1-8
Well I was working full time, but I don't have small children. I'd spend 2-3 hours a night studying, I didn't have any distractions. Although my husband kept asking me when he was getting his wife back and my dust bunnies evolved and started to speak.

Question for Excelsior RN Grads
Well first off since this is your last try, I would not take the Cpne until you know your critical elements like you can say your own address. I went to Tina's workshop in Pa. She really helped me to get my charting and care plans down so when I was at cpne I didn't even have to think about it I knew what I needed to chart and how to do it. I would practice everyday. I printed out the papers from the study guide that we would be using during cpne so I became familiar with them. I'd go through my lab stations twice a day, timing myself, charting(signing name on lab paper) and learn your mneumonics. I would make up pt. scenarios and put it right on the cpne paper work, I would knock on my kids door also used husband and dog when they got tired of my practicing. I would introduce myself and go through all my areas of care charting and careplaning. I would grade myself when I was done. I was very prepared when I went, but use your mneumonics on a grid your nerves can cause you to go blank sometimes, so if you have them as a reminder to yourself it helps.

Yes, You need to pass 2 adults and 1 ped. You can get a second chance with 1 adult and 1 ped. So it is possible to get 5 pts. and still pass.

A couple of CPNE questions
Your instructor will keep a measuring cup in her pocket. Just measure what is left in the cup and subtract from the starting amount. The instructor will have the measuring vessel in the bathroom for output. You must offer fluids during your pcs its a critical element. As far as Iv fluids you only count it if it runs out during your pcs. At least when I took the cpne that was the way it was done. Like slcrn said go to the EPN board,

My pcs runthrough
In your 2nd nursing Diagnosis you have 2 assessments for interventions. You can only have one assessment for your nursing diagnosis and then you need to do something. just change your verbs. Assess skin color, and palpate popliteal pulses. For your Rationale I used 2 positive and 2 negative, Exp Physical mobility is a physiological need that will increase his ability to perform ADL's, maintain and improve skin integrity and circulation if If impaired physical mobility is not corrected this could lead to pneumonia, and skin break down which could prolong hospital stay.

vermount board--retake-NCLEX
Did you pay pearson vue the $200.00 to take the test. I'm not sure if it's different in Vermont but we need to send Application to Pa board along with noterized letter from Dean of school sent directly to Pa. board. After they process your application they send confirmation to pearson vue. You get your ATT from Pearson Vue not the state board. So if you didn't pay PV you won't get an ATT.

having a hard time with SATA...please HELP
I had the same problem. Every Sata question I practiced I got wrong. I took the NCLEX yesterday had about 20 Sata questions I figured I'm not going to pass. The exam stopped at 75 questions and I tried the PVT and according to that I passed. I find out for sure tomorrow, I'll let you know. I think most of them must have been experimental questions or just easier questions than the ones I've been studying.

New NCLEX format?
Here's a site that explains the new standard. From what i understand, you have to answer the harder questions right to pass. They go by logits and it can be rather confusing to understand. http://www.news-medical.net/news/20091216/New-passing-standard-for-the-NCLEX-RN-Examination.aspx

TCN & RUE graduates
I guess it all depends on your financial situation. For me I wanted to get done as fast as I could, but didn't have money up front to pay for textbooks and the tests. I had all my prereq's done years ago. So It was just the nursing classes I needed. So in my contract with TCN I got the modules and the tests financed (they also don't do a credit cheak or I never would have been financed). I pay $125.00 a month (for 5 years). alot of money. I took tests every 3-4 weeks. I just passed my CPNE on dec 4th got everything done in 11 months. If your not planning to go that fast. You can split the exam fee through excelsior into 2 payments 0f 120.00 a month, I think. It's definitly cheaper just to go through excelsior and you can buy college network books on ebay for a lot cheaper. For me it worked because of my finances and now I'll be getting more money so I can pay my loan back. If you do go with TCN don't let them talk you into the nclex module its expensive it's nothing you won't find on the internet for free.

i am requesting everyones advice again
Well whenever I took the practice exams, I always got in the 60's, except for Lifespan 2 was in the 50's (got an A on the test). I got A's and B's on all my tests. I took the practice exams 2 days before my test and then would just study the practice exam both right and wrong answers. If you confident you know the information then I would just take the test.

Okay I'm getting mad now!
When you click on the exam you want to review at the top of the page hit "home page" then hit "take a practice exam" on the left hand side form A should show up. Hope this helps.

Obama Declares Swine Flu a National Emergency
I was following the number of deaths in the US since this started. The cdc stopped reporting the number of deaths in the US on Sept 3rd. The number was 593 deaths at that time from April to Sept. 3rd. So now that it is flu season we've had 400- 450 deaths in a 1 1/2 months. It would be nice if they would contine to report it as healthcare workers. It would be nice to have that information.

College Networking- Switch from BSN to ADN to Excelsior
When I signed with College Network they included the books and the exam fees. It didn't include enrollment fee Fcca or Cpne cost. Another friend only had the books in her contract. So I guess it's going to depends on how your contract is written on what it will pay for out of pocket.

Excelsior LPN to A.S RN program
Hi, Have you applied to Excelsior yet. They will give you an unofficial evaluation of the credits you already have and what you still need. After you have the prerequirements done you can take Health safety (nursing 1). Then you can enroll in the college. There are then 6 more nursing classes the fcca and then the CPNE. If you have the prereq's done, it's possible to do the nursing classes in 4 months but you'll have to study continuously. They're not easy course's. The CPNE wait is 4 to 8 months.

Would You Accept Swine Flu Vaccine?
Massachusetts has set up guidelines to allow dentists and pharmacists to give flu vaccines. They are also considering allowing nusing students and medical students the power to vaccinate. http://www.wickedlocal.com/swampscott/news/x2145958663/State-adopts-emergency-rules-to-expand-pool-of-flu-vaccine-administrators

I'm totally screwed!!
Also when your ready to re-enroll you can get in the new payment plan. which includes your enrollment, 4 nursing exams and i believe your graduation fee for $1595. I don't know all the details with the new payment plan but I'm sure someone here can tell you. It may be a blessing in disguise.

Swine Flu in India
The death toll in India has risen sharply. Their first death was on Aug 3rd and already their death toll is up to 17 deaths. With India's population density, I would think, that there would be a greater chance of the flu mutating. Your thoughts? http://www.hindu.com/thehindu/holnus/000200908122123.htm Maria

Military Poised to Help FEMA Battle Swine Flu Outbreak
At least they're stating to think ahead and to get things in place if it gets worse this Fall. People are really misinformed about whats going on, read the comments on this article. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/07/29/military-poised-help-fema-battle-swine-flu-outbreak/ The Pentagon is preparing to make troops available if necessary to help the Federal Emergency Management Agency tackle a potential outbreak of the H1N1 virus this fall, FOX News has confirmed. This comes as a government panel recommends certain groups be placed at the front of the line for swine flu vaccinations this fall, including pregnant women, health care workers and children six months and older. The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices panel also said those first vaccinated should include parents and other caregivers of infants; non-elderly adults who have high-risk medical conditions, and young adults ages 19 to 24. The panel, whose recommendations typically are adopted by federal health officials, voted to set vaccination priorities for those groups Wednesday during a meeting in Atlanta. Obama administration officials told Congress that H1N1 vaccinations won't be available for several months. Defense Secretary Robert Gates is preparing to sign an order authorizing the military to set up five regional teams to deal with the potential outbreak of H1N1 influenza if FEMA requests help. A senior U.S. defense official told FOX News that the plan calls for military task forces to work in conjunction with the FEMA. No final decision has been reached on how the military effort would be manned, but one source said it likely would include personnel from all branches of the military. It is not known how many troops would be needed and whether they would come from the active duty or the National Guard and Reserve forces. In the event of a major outbreak, civilian authorities would lead any relief efforts, the official said. The military, as it would for a natural disaster or other significant emergency situation, could provide support and fulfill any tasks that civilian authorities could not, such as air transport or testing of large numbers of viral samples from infected patients. As a first step, military leaders have asked Gates to authorize planning for the potential assistance. Orders to deploy actual forces would be reviewed later, depending on how much of a health threat the flu poses this fall, the officials said.
