  1. just to add a little bit of what i have seen, its not been uncommon for me to "pray" with a family. i feel that as giving the best care i can if the patient or the family expresses a need to pray discuse god or any other belief then it is part of my job to alowe that to happen. whether i have the same faith, sometimes faith is all that pulls people though and i should make my pt. feel that comfortable that it is ok for them to be able to express that in their finial days. should it be part of the nursing plan, no, but it should be part of the pt. plan.
  2. I have a masters in theater arts and toured for a few years as a dancer....but i fell in love and got married so had to get a real.....fell into nursing and love it
  3. i have tats and piercings and i think it makes me no less of a good nurse and you know what it has never been an issue and sometimes pt's even comment on them and how nice there are, kinda a cool ice breaker to stickin in the IV...LOL i think you still have to be tastefull but you can pull it off.....
  4. Just my in-put...love the tv's in the ed..makes a world of difference to the Pt's. As a Pt I love it too!!!
  5. I just wanted to add that i heard the same thing...NO MORE MOUTH TO MOUTH!!! they say that just doing the compressions will circulate enough blood to help! kinda cool if you ask me it does end up makin it easier for peole to not get confused
  6. by labor law, you only have to give a notice as long as your pay period...so if you get payed bi weekly then 2 weeks if you get payed weekly then you can give a one week.....after you give your notice anyway they, again pay law, cant fire you at all you have already left....so dont worry and do what ya want.....unless you plan on going back to the job and have to kiss a little rear end......
  7. I am going to second that have a few pairs Professional Berki's a a pair and Dansko's, and love them very much!!!!!!! :balloons:
  8. OK maybe i am way off here, but what about MA's they work in the same capacity as a nurse....in an office! before becoming a nurse thats what i did as well as working for a lab.....my role in the dr's office didnt change. just wanted to throw that out there. and as for the CNA saying she is a nurse well ok dont do that....but, some state like the one i live in an work next too, they have CNA's passing meds and doing charts and yes even the narcotics! they take a class so that can be kinda confusing for pt's espically the older population. i'm not making excuses for her just saying that sometimes the little old ladies just dont get it......
  9. Ok two things my mommy told me never to talk about, religion and poliltics, and guess what i am doing..... Some of the statements by people on here have bothered me, i am and stronge believe. religion has guided my life many times. and whether it is in my head or not is no ones buiness by my own. as it affects my life in nursing, i work in a very busy ed. and we have looks of bad accidents, its a vacation community, and i look to God, Yes God, at times to guide though my day and help me thank him for the safty and life of my family. that is my choice and i dont need to justify that to anyone. if someone asks me to pray with them, and it has happened, then and ONLY them do i allow my faith to become part of job! whatever you believe is fine thats your choice but the people on here that state their belifes some of you have not right to bash on them. we all can have some ot none in our life and thats cool with me. just resect me for having mine and if you can do that, then whos igonorent now! sorry i was a little nasty but this is one thing that i feel a little strong about, hope we're still friends in the morning....LOL
  10. Something got my attention during this one......remarried wife doesnt bath her he still does..... as a step mother my step girls dont let me bath them or help the get their close together cause i am not mom! they are 7 and 9 too...thats only a job for their mom and dad....in their eyes so that i can see.... thats my only imput and i bet no one see's where that came from.....lol
  11. the hospital i used to work at did team nursing and it worked for the day shift, but at night it was hard cause if you had a about 7 pts then if you both tied up with one the others would be left behind. so i guess that i can feel for all sides. it happens no excuses for it but...... the nice part where i was was that we had a great staff and the other nurses would really help ya out!!!!!
  12. I have always sent the body in the hospital gown. i think, what would i want done for my family members, throw that hospital policy crap out the window, these where and are real people that deserve respect!!!!
  13. we used them in one of the er's i worked in a job ago and the did just want they could do in the field, push some meds and lines and all that other stuff...they used them to help the nursing shortage.......hhhmmmmm:confused:
  14. i have come and go to tell ya the truth.....i was teachin pre school at one point. i have worked as a medical tech in the lab, that was my first callin while going back to nursing school....and right now i work part time in an ed as an rn and perdiem in a lab somewhere else ...... breaks it up! nursing is something i love but sometimes you'll get over welmed by being under someone else control. just make sure you pick the right place you'll be fine, and its out if you get burned out and leave it you'll always have it....keep you lisc. up:D
  15. Ok mines not thats scary, but we had the death room too as we like to called it....small room, very nice,on the end of a unit i worked on....well we had his guy he was about 50 and had throat cancer. he was dieing he knew it and everyone else did.....one afternoon he started bleeding sooooo bad from his trac. opening and it couldnt be stopped and there was really at that point nothing that could be done for him....he slowly bleed to death over the course of the day. but he had that smell you know how cnacer smells and his family was maskin it with a powered smell....and that room smelled like that forever after he was gone. pt had come and gone from that room and he was still there....you knew it. he left one day and never came back, but we, the ones that where there that day knew he had hung around awhile....
  16. I have no excuse i ate bad and ate all the time.....the night shift was the snake shift....the only thing i had going for me was that i work out all the time.........big health nut! good luck there is no easy way to eat on the night shift just do what you feel....i mean eat when you need to just try popcorn (empty calories) and stuff like that not ice cream and pudding....LOL i now work 3-3 much better:D

Hey just a little fyi i have been down the same road as you....need someone to talk to.... a LEEP is not that bad. have had many of them, just feels like really bad craps. you will have some bleeding and its not bad either after my first i didnt bleed at all. if you have a really great dr then i am sure things will be cool no worries, trust me. without getting into all the details of my story i am fine now no hysto and just getting checked every 6 months...the dr thinks one more and then we'll be all good...you really should be ok. i know is scary whenever they say the "word" but as long as you stay right on top of your health care its all good..... feel free to ask me anything about it......i'm here :)
  18. just to add another point to this conversation. my mother has also been a nurse for many years...she said she feels, when ask once for and interview, yes all those things are true, over worked under payed, but many nurses are getting ready to retire. they have come to that age and when my mother went to school you had tfour choices, nurse, teacher, secratary, or you got married......the choices now for girls (sorry men) are endless....so why be the nurse when you know you can make one hell of a doctor. just some food for though.
  19. Where in Maine.....???? I have worked and lived in the area for all my life...i guess i am just curoius.
  20. yeah to hear such good stuff coming out....from techs to cna's t lpn's to rad tech and the housekeeping staff...etc etc etc...you NEED EVERYONE to make a good ED work....
  21. well this was the last year in the house i grew up in, moms putting it on the market....it was just so nice to have all the friends and family around for the holidays..... now next year on to new adventures....
  22. I just wanted to say that i feel ya, i was in much of a same situation, a boss that was out to get me because of fear from her job. she was making many mistakes....she went right to human resourse and told them that she had to step in and take control cause i put a pt life in jepordy...the funny thing was that she was not even in that day...hhmmm? well round and round we went. i finially left being that my word against hers wasnt going to get me far. i am happy for it now i have a wonderful new job where people see me for my skills and its great. just remember the one thing i learned from all this.....dont let someone else make you feel inferior. we all make mistakes and its ok. but must important you know you and you only have to answer to you at the end of the day.....keep you chin up it will be fine:)
  23. this has always been a big deal at any of the hospitals i have worked at, so places let ya...the bigger inner city ones, and then so don't.....i feel like saying ok we all know the risks and what is involved if we dont by this point then we have been living in the woods in a box! its the person choice to smoke and i have no say in what is right for them, not my life. yes people are here cause they are sick....but they are scared too and if that takes the edge off then so be it. i have no problem with pt smoking if i have the time then i'll go, if family wants to yep let em. when we enter the hospital doors 9 times out of 10 or rights and controll go out the door, lets not make someone crazy just for a few smokes a day set limits....
