Getting married between semesters!
yikes! That's not good. All the planning is basically finished! We're having a semi-destination wedding on the beach. There's really not that much left to do, that can't be done on spring break! Just the waiting part is getting to me already. I'm hoping the 3rd semester will make me stay busy! ....as I'm sure it will.

Getting married between semesters!
I was wondering if anyone here has gotten married while they were still in nursing school? I'm getting married on May 14th. My last final of this coming up semester will be May 11th. I start back to school again on May 31st! I know I'll be super busy, but I can't wait to get this semester started next Wednesday! Anyone else?!

Do you guys see a lot of people saying they are nursing students....
I've heard it before! It really doesn't bother me too much, though. I think it's neat that people are excited about nursing school. Sometimes I forget that I used to be very excited. It's easy to forget why I became passionate about nursing in the first place. There was one time though that someone said they were going to apply to the nursing program at my school. (I had just finished my 2nd semester, so I had a pretty good idea of what was needed to succeed.) We had a psychology class together last semester, and she was telling everyone that she was going to get into the nursing program. She sat in front of me...during a test I looked up and saw that her notes were in her binder right beside her and she was using them to cheat! That really did rub me the wrong way! I wish some people understood what it takes to keep your head above the water in nursing school. I don't have high hopes for this girl, but I do hope she changes her ways & I wish her the best... But people saying they're already in nursing school when they are taking pre-reqs usually doesn't bother me! Other times when it does -I never say anything. I just quietly think to myself "...oh you have NO idea..."

Thinking of skipping a semester
Only YOU can decide what is best for YOU! I would consider talking to one of your instructors or advisers before you make a definite decision though. Here's my story.... I was in my 3rd semester (rn program) & I was taking psychology and microbiology plus my nursing courses all in a 10 week semester. I got burned out in a major way. I didn't have the passion for nursing anymore. I started off great in the nursing classes, but then when micro and psychology hit hard, I just couldn't handle it. I had to withdraw. I chose to take the fall 2010 semester to finish all my basics/pre-reqs. I had to take a readmission test and do skill validations to get back in. I will be starting the 3rd semester again next Tuesday. I feel so much more rested now, and I LOVE knowing that I'll only have nursing courses from here on...I'm finally starting to feel the love for nursing again! :) Best wishes & good luck on whatever you decide!

Calhoun CC TEAS Test Location
I don't know if you have already found an answer or not, but as far as I know you take it at Calhoun. The next one is Jan 10, 2011 in the Health Sciences building on the Decatur campus. Hope this helps! :)

Tips on surviving nursing school... help!
Get organized! Don't forget to sleep. :) STUDY. Make time for yourself/family/friends. Please don't procrastinate, it will come back to kick you in the butt. ..I know that was more than one, sorry!

I don't know what to do with myself.
@CamaroNurse.... I just googled Atul Gawande. I might add that to my to-do list!

I don't know what to do with myself.
Girl, I am right there with you!!! I have a 3 week break, starting yesterday, and I am already bored. I don't know what semester you just finished. I just finished my 2nd semester...it about kicked my butt!! (med/surg & maternity/peds) I was so emotionally and physically drained yesterday! I seriously slept all afternoon yesterday and until 2pm this afternoon. I'm feeling A LOT better after that! Ha, I'm sitting on facebook doing the same thing!! ..and allnurses...and weddingbee...nothing new in a while...I'm thinking it's time for a corny lifetime movie! :) enjoy your time off!

To Do: Over Summer Vacation
In my short two weeks off, I will be sleeping almost the whole time...with a little bit of wedding planning somewhere in there.

Charting Bloopers
I'm only a 2nd semester nursing student, but yesterday at clinical on a patient's chart I saw this.... "Drug Allergies; Ketchup" Like I said, I'm still a student so there might be a drug called ketchup that I haven't heard about yet, or something I haven't learned about ketchup. but I got a giggle out of it! :)

Even with the all the work, there are times that patients make it worth it.
Aw, I literally just teared up at your story! I know exactly what you mean! Patient's like these make it so worth it. Good luck & best wishes for everything.

Anyone interested in stress coping interview?
Getting on here late tonight to catchup on all the allnurses stuff...sorry I missed this! Would've been happy to help, just let us know if you need anything else! :)

First time giving meds tomorrow
i know it's late & you might not read this tonight, but i still wanted to say something! you got this!! :) just know the drugs you're giving (usually instructors will make you go over them with them before going in the pts room, also so you will be able to tell the pt/family what you are giving them) also make sure to remember to check all orders, arm bands, numbers, dosage. just relax, and you'll do great! it's the best feeling after it's over! let us know how it goes, good luck! :)

Pharmacology flash cards
You're welcome! they're illustrated on one side (makes them a little less boring) with a bunch of info on the flip side. They are divided up into different sections. Like the first is on Drug Administration. 2nd Antibiotics. 3rd Anticoagulants. just goes down a list of 13 types of drugs, and it names specific common drugs in each category and all about them. ...thought i'd give you some more details if you plan to buy

Nursing School/Life- whats it like?
@ThatGuy, the first part of your post cracked me up! :) but seriously, that's true. you have to make lifestyle changes. i started nursing school right after high school. even though i've never been a "party-goer" it was a letdown to know that i couldn't go out with my friends whenever i wanted to, but i realized what was really important to me in life. i'm doing something i have always wanted to do. it is strange when friends tell me i'm not acting like a normal 19 year old. but i've gotten used to it. i'm proud of my decisions, and i do make as much time as possible for family and my closest friends. when you're in nursing school, you learn time management realllllly quick! good luck and best wishes!! :)

Pharmacology flash cards
here's a suggestion.... Mosby's Pharmacology Memory NoteCards: Visual, Mnemonic, and Memory Aids for Nurses I got them @ Barne's and Noble, I think. It might have been a Books A Million. They helped me out some. Hope this helps a little! :) http://search.barnesandnoble.com/used/product.asp?ean=2697999328130

Taking A&P while in nursing school... how crazy hard is it?
You're welcome!! Last semester I had 3 nursing classes and A&P2, and one of the biggest things I learned was time management. I also had the option to delay and not start the program until I completed all the basics, but like you, I didn't consider that as an option! It is hard, but "doable". Just try not to let it overpower you! :)

Taking A&P while in nursing school... how crazy hard is it?
I did it. I regretted it some days, but if you don't get caught up with a stressful discouraged attitude it will be totally fine. There were days I would think "oh my goodness what am I doing!? This is crazy and so much to learn!!" Then I would just pull myself together & focus on what needed to be done and it was all okay. It's not really the material that is so hard. It's the AMOUNT of it haha. But yeah, with organization & time management it can be done! :) GOOD LUCK & BEST WISHES!

You know you're in nursing school when....
you drive away from class with your favorite coffee mug on top of your jeep...

Starting NS w/ no prereqs = suicide?
Not crazy at all! :) here's my personal experience.... I turned in my nursing application April 09. I graduated high school May 09. I started nursing school August 09. So I did not have all of my prereqs. BUT, I did take a&p1 & my math credit in the summer before I started nursing school. I got the english, chemistry, and history credits out of the way in high school. First semester of nursing I took Fundamentals, Pharmacology, Health Assessment, and A&P2. -crazy semester, but doable. I still have other basics to finish, but I'm glad the a&p is over! Just stay focused, one of the most hardest lessons that I learned last semester was time management. Know how to divide up your study time between subjects, family time, and social time. It seems like you are pretty determined, I'm loving that attitude! :) Just have faith, study, & know when to put the books down & just get some sleep (my favorite part! lol) GOOD LUCK & BEST WISHES!

The "I HATE IT WHEN..." thread for students!!
when it's one semester later, and i am 5 pounds heavier...
-
am i missing something?
my teachers always say..."yall might not be tested on everything, but at some point when you get your license, you will be held responsible for knowing the information in your textbooks. you can study the notes and read what you feel will be on each test, but that's just enough to get you by. you have no clue what stuff they will throw at you on the NCLEX." Last semester i got so sick of hearing that, but as the semester got close to the end i really began to understand it. i'm not preaching to you, trust me, i don't always study like i should, like tonight...ha good luck & best wishes! :)
