  1. A little late on the posting, but I am attending VVC, will start NP3 in 9 days yikes!!! From my experience VVC has a great nursing program. When I aplied they still had the lotery system, because of the high deman there are always more students that they can accomodate so they did a random computer name pick. The wait is 2 years but I got called a year earlier than my due start date. The teachers are awesome, but of course you still have those that are not always so friendly, like everywhere else. It is a tough program. But they have a high NCLEX pasing rate for the same reason that they are tough, if you graduate from this program you will most likely pass the NCLEX, thats the beauty of VVC, that's why their reputation is so high. I understand that they are changing things around though, and now the drawing will be based on a point system. Good luck to all applying to VVC, if you are on the wait list dont dispair, you will be there sooner than you think, and believe me, it will be worth the wait=)
  2. Hi, Im in NP1, first semester of nursing. Today we had an exercise about getting report at the beginning of shift. Basically a student was given a list of things to pass on to another students including vitals, labs, pts info, etc. They timed us and the we were to count how many things (info bits) we were able to record or jolt down. We did ok, there were 19 bits of information we should have gotten, some got close to 19, others got 14, and some like myself got a lil more than required??? LOL I got 21, who knows where I got those 2 extra bits of info from.... Anywho, the point of it was, you dont have a lot of time to get report and you have so many pts to get report for, and they advised us to ask other nurses about what works for the, how do they save time. The nurses I've worked with so far, just get the pts profile and write on it, but the teacher mentioned that we can also make our own plan to make it easier where we just write down info as its been given to us. Do you guys have any pointers on how to make it easier to get report? What works and doesnt work for you? I've been using the pts profile to write report like Ive seen the nurses at the hospital doing, but I'm just learning, and I would like to learn other ways as well. Thanks for your help=)
  3. that gave me a quick chuckle:lol2:
  4. Yeah, I thought about doing this too with my fundamentals book, but there is just so much pride to owning this book or any other books for that matter (to me anyway) the thought of doing this to a book makes me sad:( It's like, looking at a flower and taking all its petals apart! IDK, I guess there might be some people who prefer petals to a flower...:w00t: I know, I know... FLOWERS? PETALS? WTH???
  5. It will most stressful, definetly. I've been sick the last couple of days and my husband swears is stress/anxiety related to starting school on Monday. I think he might be on to something. I need to buy vitamins and airborne, I cannot afford to get sick now:nono:
  6. Thanks guys!:) I went to foot locker to pick mine up today, my kids and hubby were laughing at my big shoes:clown: I love them, I'm set for my 12 hr shift:up:
  7. I am starting nursing process 1 on Monday and my first clinical day will be on Saturday:yeah: Our school requires all white shoes, which were hard to find since most have some kind of logo in color. I was glad to find the sketchers in all white so I ordered them. I overheard other students talking about these shoes and how they were not designed for all day wear. Does anybody own a pair of shape us for clinicals, and if so, how do you like them?
  8. WOW!!! I'm speechless:eek: Although we are in a time where we are so desperate to take whatever job comes our way, in situations like this we have to think about it and see where we stand morally and ethically. I would not work under someone like this, 1st because if this is the way she treats her coworkers, what is there to expect of the care she gives to patients? And think how she might be trying to make you her buddy, or maybe make you afraid of her so you don't dare cross her in the future. Hmmm...if it were me in your place, I'd rather keep looking and wait for the right position at the right place to come along. Best of luck:)
  9. I dread vitals:chair: which makes me feel so imcompetent already because I think this is one of the most important aspects of nursing. How lame is that? ugh:hlk:
  10. Congratulations!!!! OMG how awesome=) Yes, the wait is 2 yrs, unfortunatly. IDK, Im thinking of going for my BA in Psychology while I wait. I think it would be beneficial if Im hoping to go into oncology as a nurse. Gosh, I would love to be as excited as you when it comes to Chemistry, but the truth is I suck at it. I am now taking my last pre requ which is Psych 110. I'm thinking of taking my pre requs for the Psychology degree in the Spring. Hey so how soon after I am accepted am I allowed to take those classes you mentioned? I would love to keep hearing from you, let us know how you are doing and what frustrations and conquests come your way. Good luck Suzuki=)
  11. Thank you so much for your response. Sorry I took forever to respond=( I am now taking Developmental Psych, and will apply this coming Spring to Nursing. The wait will be long, but worth it=)
  12. Yes, I know. I would like to work for City of Hope. That would be awesome dont yu think?? well Im on my way, I will keep posting as I go. take care=)
  13. Thank you sweetie=) I will apply in the Spring of 2009. I hadnt taken developmental psych because you dont need it for dental hygiene. You do require Chem 201, 202, and organic chem tho. I think you need more pre reqs for hygiene than nursing. Well hopefully i take Psych in winter, take TEAS and apply in the Spring semester. Yes do keep me posted, good luck to you too. VVC? Victorville?? hey maybe we will end up together in class hehe:yeah:
  14. haha:chuckle I never thought of ATP as money. Leave to CSantos to come up with an idea like this.
  15. well actually, for a while there there was a high demand for hygienists. Some states even allow for hygienists to have their own practice. Now adays is diferent, with the economy being as it is now, unfortunately:bluecry1:
  16. Welcome to the club!!! I am to going from dental to nursing
  17. omg!!!!!:yeah:i am not crazy after all hehe, and here i thought i was the only one. i too am thinking into changing careers. i am currently an rda and took my pre reqs for dental hygiene, i only needed the chemistries. our economy has taken a major plunge lately, which made me realize that with such a small amount of pts for rps, dentists will probably see the need to reduce staff, hygienists included. why pay someone to do the work when maybe thats all the pts you have for the day? so i looked into nursing, which is what i wanted to do to begin with, but somehow i ended up in dentistry which i love and enjoy to the day. i am very scared to make a change, i feel like i will be starting all over again, and dentistry feels like a security blanket to me. anyways, thank you sooo much for replying to the previous thread, your reply made my day:d
  18. lol omg you sound as confused as i feel. i really want to be a nurse but i am sooo scared about switching careers. i was supossed to be a dental hygienist and i just changed my major to nursing. i feel like i might regret it if i dont do good in nursing, and at the same time i feel like a quitter (gosh and i havent even started yet lol) if i dont at least try to make it. well, all i can do is hope for the best. good luck to you in whatever you decide to do.
  19. Way to go:up:
  20. csantos is the man!!!!! i really enjoy reading your posts=) i can already tell you will be one heck of a rn:yeah: someday. i am coming back to you for help when i become a nursing student:loveya: good luck in all you do:up:
  21. Whoop Whoop!!!!!! yay for you Congrats:D
  22. I am taking Psych 110 in the winter, taking the TEAS and applying in March for Nursing at VVC. Long wait (2 yrs) if not chosen. It is random name chosing by computer=( My GPA is not great but passing=) Plan B? if it doesnt work I can always go back to the dental field=) But I hope I get to be a nurse.
  23. hi guys:typing, i am new to this community. i found this site by chance i guess. i am in the dental field, have been for a while now but i always wanted to be a nurse:nurse:. well as i got closer to my goal, finishing up my prerequesites for dental hygiene i started doubting my decision. i saw my cunselor and discussed the possibility of switching from dental hygiene to nursing as a career. i should be able to apply for the spring semester. i got very excited, just yesterday it seemed like something wondeful was about to happen in my life and i could not wait for spring to get here:yeah:. well i started to look into nursing, what is covered during school and stuff. then i started reading comments about how awful nursing was, oh my!!!:argue: now i am wondering if i made the right decision. is it really that bad??? now im wondering if i should stick with dentistry:confused: any advise???
