Aww, that's very inspiring nurse_i :) Are you from Bulacan? Or did you took the risk of independently moving there to gain hospital experience?

Same sentiments with you Dylan21. My plan is to attend trainings/volunteers to gain confidence in performing basic skills. Afterwards, I'll try my luck applying in provincial hospitals, as it is easier to get hired as staff nurse. Good luck to us!

Please help. BON charged my credit card for license reactivation last October 15 but my status online still shows as "lapsed." How long does it usually take to renew NM license? And is it expected of them to debit the amount without changing the status online immediately or 24H after? I cannot find any contact numbers or email adds in their new website.

Here in Philippines, 1000+ nurses have already signed a contract for employment in Alberta. I've heard that they're also hiring nurses from India. --- How are they going to squeeze in this large number of nurses?

Awst.. Right! Probably the walk-in applicants are not nurses. Some says, the contract is just for 2 years.. I happened to talk to a group of 4 yesterday while waiting for Ms. Gigi, they were placed in probationary status because 3 of them mentioned during the technical interview that they're willing to work for SLMC for about 2-3 years.. The other one placed his an NCLEX passer in his resume (tut.. tut..) After their talk with Ms. Gigi, they were told that the final decision will be coming from the VP of GC, they just have to wait for their call. That's when they told me about this 5 years contract, which really confuses me as well - this is way too long!

My plans for now: 1. Volunteer (be productive :)) .. and this goes on forever.. 2. Find a stable job here in Philippines (SLMC-GC is a good start) 3. Hone my nursing skills 4. At the same time file as an immigrant for US (still not sure..) 5. Find someone to marry and have children (haha) That's just about it.. The other half of the story will greatly depend in our economy, my job, family, etc. .. still to continue :loveya:

Good idea.. Thanks mimeo! A week ago, I submitted my resume @ red cross - qc.. They have plenty of activities especially that their anniversary is just around the corner.. :) Downside about participating in community service is, they can't assure our safety there, especially when taking surveys where its usually done individually (to save time.) I heard about this "parish nursing." I'm kinda interested.. Is it popular here in the Philippines? (QC)

I think the hiring for SLMC-GC is still ongoing.. In fact the guy ahead of me yesterday was just a walk-in applicant, and he was interviewed right after he submitted his resume.. Anyway.. How true is it that their contract is for 5 years?

aah.. :):) try to google different hospital in the places you've mentioned, and contact them.. thru email perhaps? most of the time, experiences are required by the agencies here in the philippines, but not by employers abroad .. its for the reason that the more experience you gain here, the higher your salary rate will be (more money for the agency..) :wink2: i think our kababayans in canada will be more informative regarding this matter.. i'll try to be more helpful next time.. hahaha :chuckle

hi ikang! i hope you won't get offended by this.. whether your agency or employer asks for an experience or not.. i advise that you should train/volunteer/work in a hospital to hone your skills and master your theories.. by doing this, you will be competitive enough to render care to your patients in a safest way.. you will also be confident to perform basic nursing skills and to learn new ones.. & it will help keep us away from being accused of malpractice or negligence.. -- this is our responsibility for ourselves, it doesn't need to be a requirement just to gain an experience.. good luck! :)

so true! i was also having doubts whether to buy the saunders 4th edition, since some of the threads mentioned that it doesn't have a lot of difference with the 3rd edition.. they even made a comparative notes about it.. hahaha.. :chuckle still, i decided to buy the book about 3 weeks ago.. its quite expensive, compared to my 3rd edition (low price edition) - P800.. the 4th edition is around P2,300.. but i enjoy reading it.. the glossy white paper makes a good contrast with the black caption (easy to read), pictures are colorful and there are also some charts and graphs.. i'm a visual learner, that's why i find those details very helpful.. suzanne also mentioned that the difference is in the content of the CD that comes with the book. try suzanne's plan, tip # 1.. i was amazed with the strategy (even with just the first tip.. :wink2:)

@ bonaddictus hi! is there a LABAGNOY review center in metro manila? i'm just interested for a final coaching (5-7 days) .. i inquired at PRS - sad to say, they don't offer one.. ho-hum.. pentagon, URC and merge-URC is already fully booked.. i'm gettin' desperate.. i even called gapuz.. for 5 days - with his (gapuz) occasional appearance, fee is P14,300! tsk tsk.. what a celebrity!

URC is located just off MRT Guadalupe station.. Merge-URC (sister-like company) is in Quezon Ave., near Welcome.. to JUZaGIRL - better decide early if you wanted to review with URC because they have limited slots.. Silverdragon is right.. it is possible to pass the exams even without the help of review centers..

but suzanne just said that h1b non cap visas are intended for "specialist" .. i definitely don't count to that..

just a wild thought.. is it possible for us to form a group, those who are willing to help and reach out? (voluntary) i've been thinking about what suzanne suggested, i just don't know what or where to inquire.. i have talked my previous classmates into this.. they just ended up teasing me..
