Submitted packet in Sept '08, selected/commissioned in Jan '09, cant get another word from my recruiter...so I have no idea where I am in the continuum.

I got my letter this week too. It was really cool to finally see it in print but Im like Edie, Im not holding my breath waiting for my orders.

After reading all of that, Im hoping to have mine by my birthday (April 15th). I was SOO hoping to get to drill in April, but looking at it now, I will be lucky if I get to go in May... I an really trying not to be pessimistic, but with my history in joining the Army, I really have nothing good to base getting my orders in a timely manner on. Im hoping Im wrong.

Hey..I know this was addressed to Edie, but I will tell you that my packet went up on Wednesday, January 21st, and my recruiter was notified on the 22nd. She called me later that afternoon on the 22nd and I swore in on Saturday the 24th. Once the board selects you, things can move pretty fast from there. I commissioned Jan 24th ( :) ) and I was told that it might be the first of April before I get my orders. Like Stacee and Edie said, I am trying for June too. August is out bc my hunni is coming home from Iraq then. If I cant get into the June class, Im gonna set my sights on October...

Oh lordy...what did you have to do in front of 100 soldiers??? I hope I dont have to do that or I will puke on the Commander. I dont think there is any dishonor in that... Kidding.

Got word today that I boarded as 1LT. Planning on commissioning Monday, Jan 26th. WOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Im so freaking excited!!!

I may be wrong, but if you commission as a nurse in the ANC, you wont have to go to WTC. You will go to OBLC like everyone else.

Edie, That is so true. Having a significant other that is enlisted, he tells me that there is nothing worse having a commissioned officer that has NO clue what is going on. I feel like people in leadership positions owe it to themselves and those below them to know and understand the responsibility they accept inside and out. Remember, we are not only nurses, we are soldiers as well. While going up in rank is important (who wouldnt want to move up financially??), knowledge is power and lack of knowledge can put both your fellow nurses and soldiers in danger. I hope to commission as a 1LT this month, but if I get 2LT--that is just fine too. Either way, I plan to learn as much as I can about the Army while pursuing my BSN so I can get gain rank. But trust me, I have NO intention of being 'that officer who doesnt know her ***hole from her elbows'.

Plus, you cant get CPT without a BSN.

It depends on your age,height, and whether you are prior service or not. Here is the website to find it for the Army: http://www.usarec.army.mil/hq/apa/rc/weight.htm Try googling the other branches as I believe there is a slight difference in weight requirements for each of them. The Army chart will give you a general idea of the requirements though. Also, if youre close to your weight range, they will measure your body fat % and if you make that, then your weight doesnt matter (as far as the Army is concerned--other branches, I am not so sure). The body fat percentage is based on your age. Hope that helps somewhat! ~Kelly

I guess I didnt realize there was a step (going to the sec'y for a signature) between getting approval from the board and commissioning. I havent heard anything about it from any of the other posters here OR from my recruiter. Very interesting indeed.... Maybe its because I didnt require any waivers.

My recruiter told me that she would accompany to drill the first time and get me in touch with someone who would walk me through things. Im not sure if that is how it goes everywhere, but it made me feel alot better about things.

Here's my timeline.. Initial contact with an AMEDD recruiter in Sept. 08. Completed the packet, got transcripts and LORs, went to MEPS, jumped through various hoops and was supposed to be boarded in November. It didnt happen because there were problems with my LORs. Got everything fixed and should have gone to board in December (which was only 2 weeks after Nov boards). Didnt get boarded in Dec. because my nursing license expires 12/31/08 and they didnt have a copy of the renewed license in my packet. That is now resolved so I am projected to board in January '09 as a 1LT. Stay tuned, Im sure the insanity will only get better as I get closer to January boards. ~Kelly

The waiver process depends on what type of waiver you need. Waivers can be approved anywhere from minutes to weeks after being submitted. I think, but dont quote me on it, moral waivers take the longest because they sometimes have to all the way up to USAREC. Medical waivers (unless they are waiting on test results or you have a consult) usually dont take as long depending on the condition or injury you have that needs to be reviewed. Sorry that was so vague. I know youre frustrated because its just one more thing to have to wait on, on top of the length of time it takes to get to boards for commissioning. Good luck to you!!!

Geez the decisions..I plan on shopping around for some boots that will protect my feet while being comfortable too..especially being on my feet all the time (not to mention the ruck marching). My bf wont be any help in the boot department bc he wears something called 'tanker boots' (apparently they are boots distinctly designed for 19K's who have seen combat)...Maybe we should design some SI 'nursing boots'..hahaha..just a thought.

Thanks for your input Patty, but you really didnt answer the OP's question. Here is an example of the duck walk. The only difference that I had to do when I went to MEPS..instead of holding my arms out in front of me as in the video, I had to put my hands on my hips, take about 6-8 steps, turn around, and come back to my original position. My suggestion is to take it slow and be careful when turning around..ahhahaha. It isnt as easy as it looks.

Ive actually been ready for boards since November...I have had the thought that my recruiter keeps pushing me back for some reason so that she will have someone going to boards every month. When I went to MEPS for my physical, there were three nurses going through..Im sure the other two have already been boarded by now. It also occured to me that since I am so motivated, my recruiter thought it would be okay to keep pushing me back because I am a sure thing. If something doesnt happen in January, I am going to go to a different recruiter. Im sick of the run around.
