  1. I am trying to figure out which RN-BSN program to attend, ASU or GCU. I know ASU is a bit cheeper....for now, but i am trying to figure out which program would be more streamlined and best overall. Irish, would you reccommed ASU's RN-BSN program. Sounds like they have a high attrition rate. thoughts?
  2. ah, the good old stethoscope controversy. you will ask this question to 100 different nurses and get 125 different answers on what you should do.....my advice, stick with the cheap one. a good stethoscope doesn't define a nurse in any way. i have seen nurses with $400 scopes around their neck, and they never actually use it...almost more of a fashion statement. besides, if i spent that much on a stethoscope i would pry have to take out an insurance policy on it, in case it becomes lost or damaged, which it probably will. as long as you use the one around your neck, you are good to go. my two cents
  3. I read from several different sites stating that the mother had pulmonary htn d/t the 11 week old child. i am curious why the only option of saving the mothers life was to kill the child....any L&D nurses have some insight on other possible treatments or if this is a common, or rare occurrence? Thanks.
  4. awwwwwwwww! How touching...snif.
  5. Jeninthedesert and Serenity1, would you guys mind telling us specifially what programs you go to? Thanks in advance.
  6. congrats snarfgirl on graduating soon! i was just wondering what program you are graduating from; i think i read from one of your posts that you said gcc. is that glendale or gateway, or am i wrong all together? either way could you please shed some light (for some of us waiting for fall 2009 placement) on how you felt about your program. specifically your level of preparedness, schedule, clinical rotations, and hospitals you worked with. thank you in advance for your reply.
  7. I called the nursing hotline yesterday about when the placement capacities would go up, and the lady there told me that they are still waiting for all of the colleges to submit their numbers to them. She said hopefully sometime next week we would see those numbers. On a side note, i aked her if there would be less spots open this semester compaired to previous fall semesters, and she replied that she hadent heard anything regarding fewer placement capacities.
  8. If you dont mind me asking, what program were you in that did a preceptorship at mayo?
  9. I think that there will still be lots of deferrals. Does anyone else find it weird that the most recent person selected had there time stamp from SUNDAY october 21st 2007. I wonder if that is a mistake, or if they really turned in there application on SUNDAY. Thoughts?
  10. I'm in the same boat as you guys. Right now i just have my hopes in lots of deferrals, and God.
  11. good point azsamantha about the ASU nursing students. I have a quick question. I thought you were gonna put down Mesa Boswell as one of your choices. If you did put it as a choice, i dont understand why you were not placed. A student with a time stamp of august 29th got placed there. Even so you will get in for sure this semester (Spring 09), your are pry like the next person in line. As for us October time stamps, all we can do is Pray. Good luck everyone, november 4th will be an interesting day, LOL.
  12. While there was 97 deferrals last semester, so hopefully there will be more this semester. I just kinda am at a stand still, because i can not take any more classes, and i hate just sitting around with my thumbs up my butt. I just want to get my RN, but lately the process just really sucks.
  13. they normally draw every 2 weeks, november 4th is a tuesday that is 2 weeks from now. I agree, i have such a ****** taste in my mouth as well.
  14. Yea, it kinda feels like getting kicked in the gut, over and over again. I will get my hopes up for november 4th nursing draw, and pry just repete the disappointment process again.
  15. hahaha, i have been checking like every 2 minutes as well. I am sooooo nervious right now.
  16. i agree with people needing to see if they actually enjoy nursing before they commit 2+ years to prereqs, and then find out they don't enjoy clinicals at hospitals. i did a nursing camp at mayo clinic in high school for a week, and that's when i really found out nursing was for me. anyways i also am bummed about how many spots are reserved for employees of certain organizations. i think the organizations reserving spots for their employees makes total sense, but i think maricopa should have a set number of nursing spots open...say 550 just for maricopa community college students. that way any spots an organization open will be in addition to the spots that maricopa community college has. i know that this will not happen for a long time, if ever, but like you said it feels better to vent about it. yea, that suggestion box would be great.
  17. your time stamp was from october 27th, the first of the week? october 27th, 2007 was a saturday...........do you mean october 22nd, 2007? anyways, i agree that something needs to be done about the nursing wait times for the community college programs. i say instead of "weeding" out the students during the first couple blocks of the nursing program, "weed" them out during the pre reqs, before the program even starts. i think the best way to do that is to increase the minimum scores on the net test to at lease 75 % on both english and math. if someone thinks that is too hard, or demanding, i don’t see how they will ever cut it in nursing school. i think that it’s ridiculous that 60 people might get selected to start a program but only 20 to 30 remain to finish and become rns. also make the process a competitive one, similar to asu's admission process. that would also speed up the wait for students who worked hard during the pre reqs, and earned a good score towards placement. just because the nursing program is a community college one, doesn’t mean that the students should expect lower expectations vs. a university........just less cost :)! we are all aiming at the same goal of becoming an rn whether its doing rn to bsn or just 4 years at a university, so i believe we should all be held to the same standards educationally.
  18. What department are you starting in?
  19. This is from the Nursing program website. "System maintenance in preparation for spring '09 placement is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 3rd. Spring program choices will be available for selection Friday evening. First placement run for spring is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 21."
  20. What do you think so far of the mesa cc boswell program? What is your weekly schedule like, and Pros and Cons to the nursing program?
  21. Do you know anything about the GCC traditional NON-partnership program? Is it similar to the weekend program as far as quality is concerned, or is it more structued and developed?
  22. Hey pcardone, what do you think so far of the GWCC nursing program? What is your typical weekly schedule like? what is your expierence so far with the clincials, pros and cons, and any helpful hints/tips?
  23. No I havent taken HCR 240. I thought that they incorporated Pathophys into the nursing program, i could be wrong though. Once i find out what nursing program i get into i am going to start reviewing my A&P's along with microbiology, just to freshen up a bit. Right now i am just taking 300 level courses at ASU that will work towards my BSN, so i am staying busy with those.
  24. I applied in October 2007, and am hoping to just get in period, right now I dont care which program I get accepted to. I think the most recent person that got accepted in a program was from June 2007 and that was for GC. And the oldest person still waiting placement that has 5 options is from late march 2007. When do you think they will begin the draw for spring 09? I heard sometime around late september, early october. Anyone know any specifics?
