Why do night shift nurses get paid more when day shift clearly does MORE work?
U def should go and work night given that is so easy and well paid. I do nights and I do not get breaks or go to the bathroom many times. And on top of that there is no help, no staff .... U keep adding to the list. I would gladly give u my extra money for day shift.

Circulating c-sections
On my unit whoever is taking care of laboring mom will circulate and recover the patient. take care of the baby when comes out together with the pediatrician that has to be there when baby comes out. If baby is stable we keep it so mom can bond after surgery. after that nursery staff will come pick up the baby All the RN's know also how to scrub because many times we dont have ob techs at night. in case of emergency everybody tries to help. sometimes gets really crazy.

This would be the most devastating thing.
OMG! I thought I was being dramatic!! I love the show ( ER) and this last episode affected me deeply! I kept thinking how horrible feeling to get to work and find your child fighting for his/her life!! I just pray to god to keep my children safe! :redpinkhe

To treat or not, that is the question
Well i live in the US, but my area has a big incidence of TB. So i was probably exposed to it. I also had the vaccine in my my country, but never tested positive before. So my two options are either the treatment of rifampin or xray once a year.

To treat or not, that is the question
Hello everyone: i just started working 3 weeks ago. When i was going through my physical and lab tests with employee health my ppd was positive. They refered me to the chest clinic on my county. Well, long story short, the x ray was clear, but now the doctor on the clinic is telling me that I need to take a course of treatment, wich is rifampin for 4months. I opted for having an x ray done once a year, but he kept telling me that if i become active i could infect everybody without even knowing it. So now, here I am, I am so confused and i don't know what to do. Please can anyone give some advice? have you been in the same situation? I just don't know what to do!!! Help :uhoh21:

Full Circle, My First Year of Nursing
Hello Weebaby. Well, my first week was not bad at all, it was orientation, so it actually felt like nursing school. Monday is going to be my REAL first day! I'll be working from 7a to 7p. I am excited and afraid at the same time. Let's see how it goes. I'm planning to hang in there whatever happens. Once again thanks for the inspiring words, i hope to work in the NICu some day.

New RN not safe
That's exactly what I meant, I am not defending this person, I was just stating that the language "situation" is not an excuse for not doing her job!! I am very proud of who I am, and I know nursing is not about myself:loveya: lol. Thank you for the input morte.

New RN not safe
Medication errors have nothing to do with english not being one's first language!! I studied here in the US but English is not my first language, and not being careful and not knowing what you are doing I'd say is another type of barrier!!

Maths problems some one help
Do not go crazy with math, this is what i do: I write what they want, is this case is 200mcg, convert them to mg= 0.2mg. then what i actually have 0.3mg in 1.5ml, so: 0.2 0.3 ----- = ------ x 1.5 the program is not letting me write the ratio proportion equation the right way. so is 0.2 over x then the equal sign and 0.3 over 1.5 after this you only have to cross multiply 0.3x= 0.2 times 1.5 0.3x = 0.3 divide this and you get 1 wich is the answer. Hope this helps!!! i always use ratio proportion and always get the right answer. Good luck.

too old to become a nurse?
There is no way you are too old to start nursing school!!! My best friend who just graduated with me is 59!!! I think she is the greatest person on earth!! So don't pay attention to what anybody says, if you feel like that's your dream go for it!!!

Overlook Hospital, NJ
i don't have any experience on the place but I have heard nothing but good comments about it. that is actually one of the places I would love to get into. So good luck and learn as much as you can, it is going to help a great deal on your journey throughout nursing school.
