  1. Hospice EMR

I know this thread is over 2 years old but I wanted to comment that MUMMS software sucks! The hospice that I work for is using and has always used MUMMS. It runs out of Firefox and you cannot update beyond Firefox 12 which is a security problem in ...
  2. Mispronunciations That Drive You Nuts

I work in hospice and we have had a few patients and families that call Hospice "hostage" or "hos-pick". I've also heard oxygen said many different ways.
  3. Sepsis as Hospice Diagnosis

Hi all! I wondered if sepsis can be used as a primary admitting diagnosis for hospice? Thanks, Linda
  4. I have had this happen also. I believe the pt does not want them dying to be the last sight the family remembers.
  5. Hey all! I have a co-worker that mentioned that she had heard that if you have been an LPN for a number of years you can possibly qualify to sit for the RN Boards without going back to school. Has anyone heard of this?
  6. Hi! That is the same with the hospice I work for. Have you tried something like ABH scheduled ATC? Every pt is different and it is usually a trial and error finding the right med/meds that work for the pt. Good Luck
  7. LPN for many years to qualify to take RN boards

Thanks to all for your responses. I have never heard of this either and just wanted to make sure before I possibly passed up a great opportunity. I will also let my co-worker know as well.
  8. O hai hospice!

It is a very rewarding field of nursing.
  9. Obtaining ekits or an emergency 3 day supply of meds

The pharmacy we use is the same way. However, they will send out an E-Kit for a new admit pending the doctor's signature.
  10. Evidence based article

Hi All! Recently, the hospice I work for purchased a video call Dying Wish for the staff to watch. It was very good and shows exactly what you are wanting. Linda
  11. Pt./Family Comments that Leave You Speechless

I work in Hospice and the other night we had a contract pt that was a full code (go figure!) and we had to perform CPR. During all of the commotion we had another pt's family standing at the desk wanting to discuss their father's BP levels for the l...
  12. Question on code status and hospice

I work in hospice and I see this a lot. I know people have a right to their decisions but my feelings on this are that if you are on hospice then you are not seeking aggressive treatment. Which means, to me, that DNR should be the option w/hospice....
  13. how much do you make an hour/year?

I live in Georgia and work in hospice and make 19.86/hour part-time as a LPN. Not too bad and the job is wonderful!
  14. Babies cut during c-sections?

My youngest son got his foot cut when he was being delivered via c-section. He still has a scar from it. I'm sure things happen from time to time.
  15. Crushing K-Dur

She could also have given it PR (per rectum). I work in hospice and a lot of our patients are unable to swallow or comatose so in order for us to give their meds we will give them PR. So, so sad that there are nurses out there that don't care. Mos...
  16. The very, very old and sick who are full code

I agree with you. I too am a nurse in a hospice setting and knowing that the patient is going to die but yet the family keeps them on DNR status. Also, I worked in LTC and lots of patients there were Full Codes and that made me so mad. The patient...
  17. school nurses

I was wondering if School Nurses are being used anymore. I am a stay-at-home mom and work everyother weekend at a local nursing home. I chose this because it gives me extra money, keeps me home when my kid gets out of school, and to keep my skills ...
  18. Introductions

Southern Regional is a pretty good hospital. I actually delivered my son there. I never actually worked in the hospital, but worked with doctors that do. The hospital is located on Upper Riverdale Rd. and all up and down that road is nothing but d...
  19. Introductions

I used to work in a Doctor's office in Riverdale, GA. for 6yrs. I am mostly familiar with the area. Where will your assignment be?
