Idoskin1, Would you suggest a person to get their esty license if they are already an RN and would like get into aesthetic nursing? I am considering it because I feel it would be the best way to learn about skin. I have had other people tell me that it would not be necessary but I am thinking it may help me get into the field. There is not a lot of jobs in this field in my area so I thought it may help me get a foot in the door. Thanks. aprilr

To any of you nurses that are already in the aesthetic field, how did you choose where to get your training? I have seen posts where people have not had good luck with certain training programs. I would like to become certified in botox and other dermal fillers but have no idea where to start. I live in North Dakota and there are not training courses in the state so I do not know where to begin. Do any look better to potential employers than others?

Does anyone know good websites or resources to find aesthetic nurse job openings. I cannot seem to find any helpful sites. The only way I have found to find jobs is to look up specific businesses and check their web page to see if they are hiring. Many of them do not have the info on their page. Just checking to see if anyone had some good ideas. Thanks.

I live in North Dakota and there are not many nurses in the state without a job. There are many rural hospitals that are desperate for nurses and are giving sign on bonuses. The hospitals in the larger towns are also in need of help. So, there are options! Good luck!

I will be graduating from an online program in May. I am an LPN and will graduate with my BSN. It has been difficult but it is completely do-able. You basically have to just read the book and teach yourself. I still have an 84 hour preceptorship and 135 hours of community health observations so there are things that you will be doing in a health care setting. You should be able to go on the program's website and it will state that it is accredited. Or go to your Board of Nursing for your state and they have a list of all the accreditd schools. Good luck!

The school that I am attending is also doing this. They said that they will not clear us to take the boards until the ATI says that we are ready. After I graduate in May I have to take an ATI course. It can be anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks long depending on my skill level. I think that after I am done with the course, whether it is 2 or 6 weeks they have to clear me for boards. It is not like they are going to never clear me, but I have to go through the ATI couse first.

Does anyone have a good book/video/class/anything that would help with starting a new business. I am thinking about possibly starting my own business within the next 5 or so years but would have no clue where to start or what to do. I have a lot of time but I would like to starting leaning about it. Thank you!

Do not skip class unless there is an emergency, these are not going to be classes that you can show up just for the tests and still pass. You are going to learn more by reading and going to class than you will from just reading. Like someone else stated, get a day planner, it will be your best friend.

I am soon doing an internship in the operating room. When I was in LPN school I observed multiple times in the OR with no problems. Now that I graduating in May and getting ready for my internship. The problem is that last semester while observing in the cardiac cath lab I got dizzy, lightheaded and had to leave the room. It was terribly embarassing and I do not want it to happen again. It wasn't even anything bloody, I was watching a screen. It may have been that I was standing in the same spot for quite some time with a lead apron on. I don't know. I know that during total hip replacements and spinal surgery I didn't have this issue but that was a few years ago. Do any of you have any tips for me to prevent this from happening again? Hi, I know threads about aesthetic nursing have been seen before, lately they haven't been generating much conversation. I am REALLY interested in becoming an aesthetic nurse. I will graduate in May with my RN, BSN and am just try to get some info. Would I be more likely to be hired if I already have the training for botox, etc or would an employer prefer to send you to the training of their choice? Does anyone have any insight or experience in the field, any comments or concerns. Thank you all. April

I know exactly what you are talking about! The last place I worked only used them. We did not have them for IM, only insulin. I did not like them because of the bubbles. Like you said the safety aspect was great but it is not easy to get the bubbles out.

I live in North Dakota so I have some experience with snow. Just last weekend we had a bad storm and people got stuck at work for over 24 hours because people could not get into work. But they also could not get home. The problem isn't always just the snow drifts but we had zero visability because of blowing snow. It doesn't matter what you drive if you cannot see you hand infront of your face! We usually try to plan ahead and stay in an extra room or something. But we do not take chances because with -20 temps going out in a storm can be deadly!

Maybe instead of saying that you do not believe that you are qualified to do charge, you could try and tell them that you are not as comfortable and confident as charge. At my facility, if you tell them that you are more comfortable on the med cart or as charge, they do their best to try to accomidate. Also, if they are receiving feedback that you are good as charge you should take it as a compliment and believe in yourself. You could ask for a few days of orientation at charge for a refresher...

I was asked this question during an interview not long ago. The job was for an aesthetic nurse specialist which I guess would be one of those areas that an extrovert would be desirable...

Hi. Recently I started a new job, it is similar to my prior job but something must be different. My feet are KILLING me. I come home at night and cannot sleep because my legs and feet hurt so bad. I am used to walking so I am thinking it is different flooring. Anyway, do any of you have suggestions for good shoes? Price doesn't matter if they will help with the pain! Thanks.

I worked in a Pediatric Home Healthcare company in a rural part of Minnesota. I was fresh out of school. I was getting $14.75 with night and weekend incentive pay.

I know that the DON has a lot of responsibility and is very busy. But I know that ours has nothing to do with the scheduling or direct patient care. The only time she comes to the floor is when there is a problem or if she wants to talk to someone about something they did wrong. I have a lot of respect for the job and know that I do not think that I would want to do it. But I think that it would be good for the DON to at least be on the floor every now and then to see if the plans that they are enforcing actually work or the complaints that we have are legit.

It is a really tough choice. I left a full time night position in a pediatric home health care agency to a day/evening full time position at a psychiatric hospital. It was hard to decided what to do, but I felt that the day job would be better for getting my homework done. I do not regret the decision. I think you need to do what is going to make you happy and what is going to be best for you in the long run, whatever that may be! Good luck.

The DON at my facility has not worked the floor in the year and a half that I have been there. There have been times where we were so short staffed that 3 or 4 people get mandated, shift after shift after shift. The DON walks around and makes sure that the people know that they are mandated but she has never offered to cover. I wish sometime that she would just to show us that she is willing to pick up extra shifts and do what is needed because we are expected to pick up when we have time. I understand your frustration.

I am going to school for my BSN and currently working as an LPN. My best advice, like others have mentioned, is a daily planner. Write down EVERYTHING. No matter how small it may be or if you are positive that you will remember it, write it down. Most of my classes are online and it is really tough to keep my assignments, tests, plus my work schedule straight. It may be hard and overwhelming at times, but it will get better! Hang in there!!! I have never been paid for lunch if I actually got a break. It was a big deal in our hospital for a while that people weren't taking breaks and just worked through lunch breaks. They didn't want to pay that much overtime because anything over 8 hours a day is overtime for us. So we NEED to clock out for a half hour, but if there isn't time we have to fill out an overtime slip and get it approved.

We got absolutely nothing for Christmas and Thanksgiving. For nurses week we got a water bottle, candy bar and a pen. We do get $5 for the vending machines for our birthday! Haha not a lot but I guess I don't really expect much either.

I work at a psychiatric hospital as a float. Our PICU does have a microwave in the patient kitchen for them to use. In the year and a half that I have worked there we have not had any issues with it but I do see where it would be a concern. The patient kitchen does have a lock on the door and we have had to lock it inbetween meals for various reasons but not because of the microwave...yet.
