  1. I haven't been a nurse for that long and my facility has just hired a new DON. She stated in our meeting the other day that she will not and does not cover the floor. She stated that i already have a full time position and doesn't have time to cover the floor. She says that all of you guys need to work together to get the hours covered. We have a lot of call offs and our turn over rate is really high. So my question is is it standard that most DONS don't cover the floor?
  2. I Work in a nursing home 3rd shift on the weekends. I am newly pregnant about 6-7 weeks. I won't see the doctor for about another week or two. I just found out that one of our residents has MRSA in their urine. We straight cath him once a shift. I was curious if i should be taking care of him? Also with cold and flu starting soon what kind of residents should I try and avoid taking care of while i'm pregnant? Thanks in advance
  3. Yes we count all of them on our med cart but not all of the med room. We have extra in the med room in case someone runs out or we get a new resident. they are all in locked boxes. all we do at the end of the shift is check to make sure the same number is on the box as when we started the shift.
  4. I am a new nurse. I got a call from the DON that there is a lorazepam missing from the narco box. I only worked one of the days in question and I know that I didn't get into it. She said that if she can't figure it out then she would have to call the police. If she does what happens next? We had a lot of nurses covering other shifts and we have had new nurses working also some more nurses have quit. I personally think that someone just forgot to fill out the slip to say that they got it out. Any information on what happens next will be appreciated. Thanks in advance
