  1. Thank you so much for the advice. I haven't really volunteered anywhere, except going to the nursing home with my grandma, where she volunteers, which I really enjoyed. Of course, it is a little different than a hospital, but I think that's a really good idea, just to get a taste of what's to come! Thank you! :wink2:
  2. To be an oncology nurse, you have to have a pretty good memory? I guess it is the same with any job, but sometimes remembering can be more important depending on the job. I am one of those people that love meeting new people, and building relationships with people, which is one of the reasons why I was looking into nursing. When you were talking about being able to build relationships with the patients and their families, that was somewhat of a confirmation, that maybe this is something I would want to pursue. How many years of schooling did you go for? Well, I know you need to be an RN, so would that be a step above that, or would you need to take a special class or something to be an oncology nurse?
  3. Thank you so much for the advice, and I totally agree with waiting a couple years before going into that if you've had a loved one die of that, because of all the emotional situations. I want to be able to do this, because I feel like, because I've been through the same sort of things, I want to be able to help them and the families as much as I possibly can, so they don't have to go through the same thing. However, on the flip side, I tend to be sensitive, and I don't want to continually be emotional and have no idea what the correct balance is. But I also agree with you when you said you can only truely know by being involved with that, and being able to have a little bit of experience with it. What exactly did you do when you got to go there? I would be interested in trying to find somewhere where I could maybe get to know a little bit more about it, and see what would go on. So thank you, thank you, thank you again for your help!
  4. Well, I have been on and off with my for sure plans, and I was thinking to become on RN, and then was thinking of being an oncology nurse. What type of personality do you think you would need? I know it's a weird question, but I don't want to become an oncology nurse if I didn't fit the description, if you know what I mean. A little more than 11 years ago, my mom had passed away from ovarian cancer, and I found that maybe trying to help cancer patients would be something I would love to do. However, I'm worried that if it has been a personal experience, would it be too emotionally "draining" or "difficult" for me? Sorry this is probably one of the weirdest questions, but I was curious. Thank you in advance for the help!

  6. I cannot remember if I had asked this or not, but is there anyone who is an oncology nurse that could give me any information? I didn't know if there would be anyone or not, but I figured it was worth a try... any help would be much appreciated. thanks!

Thank you everybody for your help! It means a lot! The salary isn't a huge priority on my list, but it's nice to know the abouts as to what the LPN's get. I was talking to my aunt, who is an RN, and she said that if I want to go as far as an LPN, I might as well just finish to be an RN...do you agree? I cannot remember which person said this (sorry!), but I did hear that some are looking for RN's more than LPN's?!?!? I'm not exactly sure on what to do, but I agree with my aunt, I think, because it makes the most sense. She says that they pretty much do the same thing, with slight differences (like others have said on allnurses, too), but you can get paid a lot more, so she said it would be the best option. Again, thank you guys for your help and resources. Have a great night!!!! :heartbeat
  8. I was trying to see if someone had asked the question of the salary of an LPN in Minnesota. Someone did ask that question, but I couldn't find an answer. Does anyone know the average salary of an LPN in Minnesota? If not, that's ok. I was just curious, just to get a general idea. If anyone knows, that would be great! Thank you in advance!!!

I am sorry for more questions, but I was wondering what an LVN actually does, and what type of person you should be to be able to do this?!?!? I was wanting to be a CNA for awhile, but was searching online to find any other nursing jobs that would be interesting to me. I came across an LVN, however, I dont really know what that is. It was said to be like an RN, but if I can remember right, it's a little different?!?!? If anyone could help me out, it would be much appreciated! Thank you in advance :nuke:
  10. Thank you both for the help! Much appreciated! Have a great day! :)
  11. OK, thank you for your help! I was a little confused because I saw so many different things, and I didn't know exactly...I'm actually doing it for one of my classes. We have to present a powerpoint on a career we want to do, and one of the things I have to include, is the salary. So thank you! :)
  12. Money doesn't matter, but I was trying to find the salary for a CNA and they gave me different amounts. Does it depend on where you work?
  13. I agree with Zoeboboey!!!! Please allow the Lord to be your strength in this situation. I know how you feel, even though I'm 17, I still understand. I've had the feeling where you just don't know what to do. These situations are all being thrown at you and you feel like you have no control over any of them. You just want to throw your hands up and say "I give up!" Trust me, I know. But you know what? You'll get through this, I promise. I know it may not seem like it right now, but you will. My dad's a pastor, and I'll never forget something He said during a sermon: God never allows you to be in situations you can't overcome with His strength! In another words, God knows each one of our strengths and weaknesses, so He knows how much you can handle. He won't allow something to happen to you that you won't be able to get through. If you allow Him to be your source of strenght, you'll get through it! My advice to you: try to stay close to your husband and kids. God gave you your family for support. They are those people that will comfort you when everything seems to be flying at you, ones who will love you unconditionally and you can love them back just the same way. Family is something that is deeply treasured, so stay close to them and just show them how much you love them! Which I'm sure you do. Please keep me updated on your situations. I'm really concerned/interested in how things are going for you. I'm so glad I came across your message, because my heart went out to you when I read that and I felt that I should reply. So please feel free to contact me with any updates you might have... PS. I'm sorry if anything was repeated...I typed a long message and I accidently pushed something and it all got deleted, so I apologize. I honestly didn't mean to do that. But please have a great night and remember that I'm thinking about you! :wink2:
  14. This is to: Casi, Shelly304, and Locolorenzo22!! Casi~ Thank you for letting me know! Century... hmm... I've never heard of it. Yeah I don't live in the cities but my family lives in IGH so I was considering going to Inverhills. My boyfriend said they had a good nursing program from what he's heard, so he said it might me a good option too?!?!? BUt thank you! :) Shelly304~ I'm not exactly sure when the classes start. To be honest, I haven't looked too much into it. I will go online and look at when they do start, though. It's probably bad of me that I haven't looked yet?!?!? I wanted to make sure a CNA is something I am for certain wanting to do. So far, talking to you guys has made me want to all the more. I know there are challenges, but we have to accept them and do it to the best of our abilities, I guess! locorenzo22~ I agree. I think that we can't just think about the paycheck, it has to be about the calling, like you mentioned. I obviously haven't been a nurse, but I believe it should be like that with any job, especially when dealing with people on a daily basis. You have to be able to be good with people, from what I've heard, and if I'm not good with people, it wouldn't be a good idea. And this is why I wanted to come and talk to you guys..because I don't want to go to work, just because it's another paycheck. I wanted it to be because I have a passion for what I'm doing, so I wanted to know from people that have experience with being ia CNA what to expect! You've been a great help, thanks! locolorenzo22/shelly304~ So this whole thing isn't just about the elderly group, but just all ages in general? That's a really good thing to know. Wow, I guess I should've known that..I'm sorry! So maybe it was a good thing I've worked with a couple different age groups?!?!?
  15. Casi~ I noticed you're from MN...I was wondering what college you'd suggest. I'm in MN too, and I was wondering if you know which colleges would be best. I was thinking of going to Inver Hills Community College, just because it's cheaper and within state...I would go to a university or something like that, but I figured I can save money where I possibly can..just wondering if you had any suggestions
