  1. Im a new nurse and at my hospital, the union and hospital has been going back and forth forever and a day now about the new contract and the hospital proposal to cut nurses pay. I would really like to know if unions are really effective and at the end of the day if management go ahead and do what they really want to do anyway? I ask because this back and forth between management has been going on for a really long time and it seems like management isn't budging.
  2. glad to know. i start my first job on a busy medsurg floor soon
  3. Yes you can. I did it in the state I plan on working in and I know of others who have done so also.
  4. I'm a new grad who will be starting my orientation in shortly. It still hasn't hit me yet that I am a nurse:eek: How did you get that confidence needed to survive in the first year?
  5. That is not my definition of luxury. To me that is comfortable. I believe being comfortable is quite possible with a nurses salary depending on experience, how many hours you put in, going salary in the state you live in etc...
  6. Typically how many days from an interview that went well is it reasonable for you to hear something back?
  7. Those are tho ones that disturb me the most. They have the nerve to give you attitude as if you are bothering them. They are in the hospital to get well but our presence is bothering them, how ridiculous is that. One thing I've learned from being in this profession and being exposed people from all walks of life, is that there really are some interesting characters in this world.
  8. No never. I know someone who died in a crash just last week
  9. in their room to provide some form of care. Who else has an issue with this? It's as if they are in the hospital for us to take care of them, but we are on their personal time.
  10. Try to relax, most people think they failed after they leave testing. Try the pearson "trick" . Might help to put your mind at ease until your official results are available. https://allnurses.com/nclex-discussion-forum/pearsonvue-trick-part-403722.html
  11. The really "trick" reallyworks. I got the popup and now according to my SBON website, I am officially a Registered Nurse. To GOD be the glory great things he has done. :hpygrp::anpom::dancgrp:*wine:clpty:
  12. Ok I got the good popup but steal freaking out because im unsure If I answered the yes/no questions properly. I answered no to all 3. But wasn't certain if I should have said no since technically I did take the exam.
  13. Question, How are you supposed to answer the yes or no qustions for the trick to work? SHould I be selecting Yes for have I taken the nclex before, and have I taken NCLEX before to qualify for the same liscense?
  14. How soon after you take your exam does this trick work? I want to know if I should bother bringing my laptop to check in the car right after I leave
  15. I don't know what to tell you but you are not the only one. I am right there with you. I have a couple hundred more questions to get through over the next few days. And that is it. The time is quickly running out. Hang in there. :)
  16. I have NCLEX in the next couple of days, and I am absolutely miserable. I want to study right up until the last minute, but I realize that there is no way to ever know EVERYTHING. How do you recommend I spend the next couple of days? Questions or reading? At what point do you feel confident that you will be ok with what you already know?
  17. I couldn't have said it better myself. I wish people would realize that as a nurse you are not above wiping bottoms, putting patients in the bathroom, giving showers and all the other basic nursing duties that many think they are too good for. Nursing is more than charting and passing meds. What if you worked on a unit with no aides? Then what? Yes and examining the skin of an incontinent patient is apart of nursing assessment. What better time to do this than during incontinent care
  18. Congratulations!!!!!!! Prepare your self for one heck of a ride. Always remember how long and hard you worked towards getting in. It took me a long time as well to to finally get in too, and remembering that keeps me going when things get rough!!! Congrats again.
  19. I have kept my A&P books, but to be honest I have not opened it once during NS, and I am in the 3rd semester now. I find that nursing exams focus more on patho and nursing interventions than A&P.
  20. I agree with this post. Too much potential for drama and unnecessary stress if things don't work. Next thing you have to worry about is classmates getting all in your business. Things could get too messy. That doesn't mean you cant be friends with him though. You never know what might happen after graduation. The best relationships start from great friendships anyway.
  21. Bumping to say that your advice was so true. Going into the third semester things have definitely changed. Many of us that really didn't connect before have begun to make connections. New friendships and aquaintances are forming every day. Time has definitely been the key. :heartbeat
  22. Well if you think teaching is stressful...wait until you get into nursing. It is a whole different kind of stress! I am a student now, and the stress of school is someting else. I work at a hospital as an aid now and the stress is out of this world for everyone on the unit. I mean everyone is disgruntled. It only gets worst when you become a nurse...more responsibility. Right now I am so dissapointed. I am wondering of the stress of school is even worth it. If you are truly passionate about nursing, then go for it. Just know that the stress of nursing may be even worse than the stress of teaching. Good luck.
