I am full time (well 64 h/ppp), and no, not flexible. I had 2 orientation days on the floor @noc, 1 orientation day on the floor @days, and 1 orientation day with Admit nurse (which was there regularly from 1300-2100, but we only have admit nurse when we have more than 3 admits per shift due to medicare cut backs). Every facility is different re: orientation. Good Luck

Thanks! I'll push for St J's, but wouldn't mind St M's to get my foot in the door w/Carondelet. St Marys wouldn't be bad as eventually I plan on getting MSN then DNP specializing in Global/Community Health, and working at St M's would be right up my alley (working w/the disadvantaged). I've been thinking a lot since my oldest son died last November that I may become something like a missionary or work w/an organization like DWB, and live abroad in developing countries where I may feel like I am doing the most good (once I get my Doctorate).

Could you elaborate Rainey? I have been applying, and haven't heard anything back, but plan on calling w/in the week to follow up on submitted resumes since my shoulder is feeling better. TIA!!

I've been at my job exactly ONE year as a new grad, and I received exactly THREE days + ONE day with the admissions nurse (with an admit who refused to be admitted, so basically I did nothing). Three days on the floor as a new grad on a CRAZY busy TCU with way too many high acuity Pt's (LOTS of geri-psych)!! My floor also is primary care: we pass Rx, do Tx, and all charting: comp & paper, we are also required do many of our Pt ADLs (toileting, ambulating, etc) and our average Pt load for any given day is 6 (occasionally 5 or 7). Often times along with many of our other duties we have admits and discharges to do. To give you an idea how bad things are, we've lost 9 RN's in less than three months!! I can not wait to get the heck out of that place!! I will be moving to Tucson AZ Jan 1st, and have begun applying for jobs out there, but I've injured my left rotator cuff rushing in the AM while transferring, and I've got to get it healed before I move (my first EVER workman's comp injury, even while I was a CNA I never lost anything more than a day out on a sore back)!! BTW~I am hoping to snag a position at a Carondelet hospital (SM, or SJ ideally), as they have a RN to BSN, BSN to MSN programs, and I would love to get a position and plant my feet there for a good long time. I am just finishing that course, and I'm glad I got the book. My prof was super picky about postings, and using the book as a reference for the postings.

Hi Melissa I'm taking NR-351 (Professional Transitions) and NR-305 (Health Assessment) Session B/Summer. I have to take Stats sometime within the next year and that is probably the only thing that scares me, I plan on getting a tutor to help get me through that class. Maybe I'll see you online for the Professional Transitions class! Have a fun time on your cruise, hopefully after next August I can take a "real" vacation!

I start the RN to BSN next month on the 30th! I am more excited than I thought I would be since I just graduated from RN in May, and passed the boards in June! I have 10 classes to take too!

Hey there! I have been looking for an RN-BSN program that would be a little quicker to complete than the brick and mortar schools in my area (total would have been like 3.5 years....TOO LONG). So I started to dig around on AN and found some very helpful threads, and posters (Lunah and a few others) and I decided to jump into the Chamberlain program. I should have everything set up to start at the end of August (yeah...just graduated with RN and passed NCLEX), but like miss Lunah above, I am still in study mode, and don't want to quit or take a break! Thanks everyone for all of your helpful hints (I checked out several other accredited online RN-BSN, but Chamberlain seemed like the best fit for me). YaY! I am soooo excited to get started, and to think in a little over a year from now, I will have my BSN!

My school used HESI as a tool to figure out weak spots, so we could study appropriately for the NCLEX. In that context, I think it is an excellent tool. We were told NOT to study for the HESI, and I was given what my weak points were: Delegation & Prioritization; worked on those extra and passed the boards last week! Thank god my school doesn't make it mandatory to pass HESI, but then again it has a pretty good NCLEX pass rate. I think what happens sometimes is that schools use HESI to "weed out" those that they feel may not pass NCLEX, and in turn, "boost" their NCLEX pass rate (kinda sneaky if you ask me).

A new Prius....yup! That's about it! Oh, and I guess paying off SL may be a good idea also!

I practiced on and off for about 5 mos before graduation this May, I kicked it into gear about 2 weeks before I took exam and did anywhere from 1000-2000 Q's. I used Saunder's 4th Ed for content, and Kaplan's Strategies to get the gist of what I was in for. I couldn't afford to take the class. Took NCLEX Tuesday June 29th and passed with 75 Q's. I already have my license in hand! YIPPEEE! Good Luck!

PVT worked for me also! 75 Q's NCLEX RN and did the "trick" about 3 hours after I finished: got the "good pop up." Found out the next morning that I passed (MN BON)!

You should still have an account with the BON in your state. Log in and you should be able to check! PVT should still work as long as you have your account w/BON! Good Luck!

I agree with the other poster's who say to just kiss her orifice, and get through the clinical. I can say this easily now, but I have been in your shoes: my first semester clinical's (Geriatrics). My instructor WAS AWFUL! She once berated me in front of my fellow NS and it was actually the fault of another NS (she didn't even ask who did it, just assumed it was me)! I sucked it up, got through the semester and NEVER had another bad clinical experience again, the rest of my intructor's were fabulous! I am not trying to make light, but you will survive, and most importantly graduate, pass the NCLEX and become a nurse! Don't let one bad apple spoil the whole bunch!

What I am trying to say is to go by RSV being contact precautions for NCLEX, may be different in the "real world" but they tell you over and over not to go by what may happen in the "real world" on the NCLEX. Think about all of the things that RN's delegate to LPN/LVN's, CNA's in the "real world" but DON'T do that on the NCLEX. Good Luck!

It sounds like you will be fine! My Saunder's ranged any where from 50%-100%, Kaplan 68%-73%. I passed with 75Q! (take the day off today, and watch an old movie before you go to sleep or while you are falling asleep, I guess it's supposed to trigger memory)! Good Luck tomorrow!

Even though I am a new nurse (just passed the NCLEX on Tuesday), I have a definite opinion on this topic. I happened to precept with a nurse (who is also the manager of the floor I worked on) and is also part of the MNA. I finished up my preceptorship in the beginning of May, so I was privy to a lot of what was going on before the strike happened. I lucked out with my preceptor who allowed me many opportunities to expand my knowledge base, and grow as a student nurse on a busy rehab unit. I went to bed meetings, and care conferences, honed my delegating, admit and discharge skills, called doc's about pt's and changes in their status, etc. and was given/treated the utmost respect by my preceptor. When my preceptorship was over, we exchanged cards and she presented me with a beautiful bracelet (and we both teared up a little). I asked for a reference and she obliged! The nurses from Minnesota are asking for first, and foremost better patient to nurse ratio's. It allows the nurses to provide for optimal patient outcomes, and how in the world is that a bad thing. They are asking for a .5 % increase in COL (over their current 3.5%) from what I understand, and trying to hold on to their current pension plan. Keep in mind that these hospitals are NOT in the red, the made a pretty good profit last year! Why don't they ask the CEO's and upper management to take a cut on their pensions, or raises? People have asked me if I would cross the picket line for a job (MN is state which is not considered to have a shortage of nurses), and NO I would not, even though I need a job (hello, new nurse here), I have too much respect for those nurses who are out there trying to make things better for us newbies (and may I add, current and future patient's). I know there are a few people who will flame me about this, but I stand solid behind my position and MNA nurses!

Don't go by what any thing else says until after the NCLEX! NCLEX is its own thing, and I got at least 2 questions on my NCLEX about RSV! So stick with it being contact precautions.

The "good pop up" means you passed! Congrats!

I took the exam on Tuesday, did PVT a few hours later and got the good pop up. Found out yesterday morning I passed and today they issued my license! WHOOPIE!! I am an RN for REALS!! So IMO PVT is TRUE! Good Luck to you!

I would call Pearson Vue or your state BON. I don't know if it would matter, so before your test day comes, I would make sure. Cheers & Good Luck!

No need to take a class like that, we didn't use anything like that when I took patho pharm last summer! If you know where deltoid, vastus lateralis, glut max, and the other injection sites, then your fine, but we didn't even need to know that for my class! Good Luck!
