  1. Thank you both for your responses!!!! Bedrest is my enemy!!! I must finish this semester. But, i agree...I have a lot to discuss with my doctor.
  2. Hey everyone, I just found today that I am about 5 weeks pregnant!!! I'm excited, but I'm freaking out as well. I only have one more semester of nursing school and I graduate July 1, 2011. I guess Im worried because not only do I go to school fulltime but I work fulltime as well. I really cannot afford to work less, But I feel I need to. Me and my DH have a 3yr and she was a preemie when she was born. I had her when I was only 24 weeks preggo. How do I minimize my stress and maximize my potential for a full and healthy pregnancy? Anybody else been in this position or are you in it now? If so, how do you manage everything.? Any advice will greatly help. Thanks a million!!!! Kelley
  3. thanks SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much. i signed up
  4. wow. Im soooo happy this thread has helped so many people. A year ago I started this thread right before I started nursing school. This thread meant the world to me. Nursing school has been hard. Even though everyone will state that it is difficult and will take over your life i was STILL surprised at how true that statement was. But i made it...and so will you all. :yeah::yeah:CONGRATS to everyone just accepted into nursing school. Buckle up for the ride of your life. There will be ups and downs, triumphs and disappointments. But its all so worth it :-)
  5. CONGRATS!!!!! 1.) Enjoy your summer. Once school starts your life will be totally dedicated it. SERIOUSLY. Figure out all of the priorities in your life and come up with a plan to still tend to them all. 2.) Start looking for a comfy backpack. Your back is priceless in nursing. 3.) Clean and organize your house or room. Nothing adds to stress more than clutter. 4.) Pat yourself on the back because you are about to start a huge venture. It wont be easy at all but you CAN do it. :-)
  6. I just wore darker underwear and made sure to have a pad on me at ALL times. Also, do frequent bathroom checks. So far Ive never had an accident. Not in that regard...I actually had a pen burst in my pocket. Gel pens are evil ?
  7. Hands down. our Medical Surgical class....it takes out mass people
  8. I was just like you last summer before I started nursing school. I wanted to be prepared but to be honest NOTHING can really prepare you but experience. As someone above mentioned try to get a job as a nurse aide. Please try to enjoy your summer because once you start it will be a rollercoaster until its over. Maybe start buying some of the supplies you will need...such as a great backpack, recorder (if your an auditory learner), and a good stheoscope. get in the habit of a healthy lifestyle now (as far as your diet, exercise, stress-reducing activities) so it will be easier during school. Hope this helps :-)
  9. And no...I thought I wanted to do pediatrics But I LOVE adult nursing now
  10. So sorry Im just replying. Ive been on vacation to destress from TCC lol. I took a full load of credits and worked 36 hours the first semester and I was fine. But that is only because fundamentals was easy for me with my experience. I took from an excellent teacher but BY FAR the most difficult instructor. Taking her for 120 (fundamentals) will benefit you greatly but it will be a lot of work. DO NOT take her for 150 2nd semester if you can. Seriously, more than half of our class failed and I was happy to escape with a B. She teaches awesome but her tests are brutal. Just being completely honest. I was up for the challenge but I hated EVERY second of it. The stress is not worth it. Anymore questions i will DM you my email so you can message me. im soooo bad at checking this site. Hope this helps :-)
  11. Yes...nursing school DRAMA never ends!!!
  12. Congrats congrats congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
  13. Geesh I feel for you because I JUST went through the same thing. My last final was tuesday and all I could do is SLEEP! I too went to school fulltime, worked as a PCA in the PICU fulltime on 3rd shift, and carried out the fulltime mommy/wife role. Its extremely hard and I will say that you MUST take care of yourself. I ran myself ragged and ended up getting very sick this semester. Just make sure you have an OFF day for yourself at least every week or so. You'll thank yourself for it later. As far as studying a great deal of it is studying for lecture. Im not sure how your program is set up but at my school Fundamentals of Nursing was our hardest class first smester. Medical-Surgical Nursing was EXTREMELY difficult and is taken second semester. There was preclass quizzes, pharm quizzes, exams, and a huge end of semester evidence-based essay. Clinical prep WILL take the entire night before your clinical. You have to look up the disease process(es) of your assigned client. As well as make a care plan, drug sheet, and be ready to present all of this to your instructor and clinical group. In addition to this, our school makes us to prepared clinical assignments to help integrate our learning. Try to study AS SOON as you learn the material. Figure out how YOU learn best. Im a very visual learner so I highlight EVERYTHING important, make my own notes and sometimes note cards. It is also helpful to tape your lectures in case you missed anything or especially if you are an auditory learner. Hope this helps. Feel free too ask me anything Congrats on your acceptance and get ready for the wildest ride of your life!!
  14. I agree, The Davis Drug Guide helps alot. But since it is open book is there anyway you can put tabs on the different chapters...that way you can locate answers quickly. Just a thought. And make sure to know your drugs by families!!! I got a 91 on my Pharm Final after totally stressing out over it. Just make sure you know how YOUR instructors tests...because every instructor/school is not the same in their expectations.
  15. PS Ive been at CCMHC for almost 2 years now. Which department do you work in??
  16. Hey Grechi...Im not sure if you remember me but we talked a few times on here about Christ last year. I just got done with my first year at Christ. It was cool the 1st semeester But second semester was intense!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let me know if you have any questions about professors. I can definitely tell you how to steer clear of. CONGRATS on getting accepted..again ;-)
  17. Hey everyone. Just checking in. Last semester went by super fast but I loved every moment of it. I finished the semester with a solid B average! Whoohoo. I guess all of that planning and freaking out helped :-) I hope everybody enjoyed their 1st semester as much as i did. This semster is a lot more challenging but manageable. So now Im off to study for my first unit exam. I hope to be checking in soon. Bye guys :-)
  18. yay guys!!!! Had my first fundamentals exam and I got a 86!!!!!!!! Im soo happy. Also, so far I have an A in anatomy :-) all this studying and stress is paying off
  19. all i can say right now is THANK GOD WE HAVE MONDAY OFF (for the holiday)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have my first fundamentals exam this week and I have so much to study for it!!! Geesh...nursing school is no joke. Time managment is the biggest issue!! Sleep deprivation is the second!!! Geesh...i went out last nite and had a couple well needed drinks!
  20. geeeshhhhh!!!! This first week has my head spinning. sooo much material. soooo little time!!!! My instructors are all great and seem very supportive so that helps. im trying to decide how I want to study despite all of the various suggestions ive recieved because when it all comes down to it studying the same way for every class no longer works (ive learned that quickly). Im also tryig to balance studying current material with studying for future material. All of our prelecture quizzes are over the next weeks material!!!! So this forces us to study in advance! Its super stressful. for what it worth, this first week was an amazing adventure in that my mind has reawakened to learning and critical thinking. So I know all of the frustration is well worth it. My fundamentals teacher keeps reinforcing that C=RN but i dont want Cs......not that there is anything wrong with them whatsoever. Im shooting for at least Bs and she kinda makes us feel like that is just wishful thinking. Probably because she failed 21 people in her class last semester (geesh!)! Anywho im tired and still hopped on caffiene...time to collapse!!!! Dreams of nursing assessments, restraints, and caffeine will run thru my head im sure!!! ttyl my allnurses buddies! Hope everyone is making it thru the first week with at least a shred of hope, sanity, and entusiam!
  21. So I had my first day of class yesterday!!!!!! I only have Fundamentals of Nursing on Mondays and we pretty much just went over our course requirements, the rules, and our pretty hefty syllabus. We have online quizzes every friday which she said is open book...which to me means no worries! But it really seems like a lot of our work is self study...and we are responsible for that info on the exams. I can see that being a potential problem if we are on a difficult section. BUT, she also seems very very supportive. We have a couple of chapters to read by friday. Today was my first day of clinicals and its was cool enough. kinda boring because we just went over the syllabus but i think the studenst in my clinical group are nice and we all gelled well..for now at least.
  22. ill be 26 when I graduate in 2011!!!!!!!!! yay!!!!!!!!
  23. yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy i start today!!!!!!!!
  24. i start tommorow too!!!!!!!
