Observant Jew Cannot Work Saturday Shifts
There is actually an Orthodox Jewish Nurses Association that is totally geared toward helping Orthodox Jews navigate issues such as these. You can find them at http://www.jewishnurses.org or on facebook and linkedin.

New Grad Battery Nursing exam (georgetown university hospital
it's not just for new grads, it is for all new hires. i had to take a test when i applied there over a year ago. i was totally not expecting it. the answers are not in the same frame of mind of how they teach you to think in nursing school. it's not patient focused, it's anti law suit focused. good luck.

Think I made a mistake
I kind of think you are dealing with an acute injury and need to take some time to let your body heal. Once you are better, it sounds like you can do this job, based on your experience with cleaning. Get well soon!

leaving job when pregnant?
from experience, finding a job while pregnant can be quite challenging. just something to keep in mind!

OB certification recommendations?
I am planning on becoming a certified childbirth educator to help me break into the field. And well, because I am genuinely interested in teaching about childbirth! :-)

Which program to choose- RN or BSN
that's how it works in your school, but you can also become an RN through a certificate program or an associates degree program.

Which program to choose- RN or BSN
go for the BSN. I don't know how I can stress it more. It's becoming preferred and sometimes required in some places. Especially if it's not too much longer, get a BSN. Just trust me on this one. After reading through job descriptions and seeing "BSN preferred" written in so many places... you don't want anything holding you back. You want to graduate your nursing program and get a great job, right? So get the degree that employers want to see. IF you do end up becoming an RN and want to go back and get a BSN, I think Temple University in Philadelphia has an online program that people rave about. I wish you much success!

Who will care for the patients?
I don't understand how hiring agency nurses poses a pt safety risk. If agency nurses don't work and staff-union nurses don't work, WHO WILL CARE FOR THE PTs???

looking for online MSN/FNP program
thanks for the resources!

NP Programs
I am going to suggest becoming a Family NP, to keep your options open. You can totally work in pediatrics as an FNP. I looked into that already for myself ;-)

Getting the "Back to School Itch"
I got into the masters program at Temple with a similar GPA because I had good scores on my verbal GRE.

Fall 2009 Graduate school roll call!!!
No official acceptence letter yet, but I am registered for classes at Temple University MSN-FNP working part time school part time :bby: My daughter is almost 9 months, so she's demanding a lot of attention too, but I figured it's not gonna get easier to go back, so I had better start now. Can't believe I am gonna be a student again. :yldhdbng: more paper writing, omg.

Trouble with getting a job
I think it's definitely due to the economy. We still have a shortage of nurses, but the hospitals just cannot afford to pay more nurses. Also, some nurses who were working part time increased their hours if their spouse lost their job.

How many times have you cried???
I was just at the doctor for some blood work and I asked the girls at the front desk if they are hiring. They told me that there are only medical assistants and physicians working in the office. I guess the medical assistants can do everything necessary and they can be paid a lot less.

Trouble with getting a job
yeh biggest catch 22... It's making me angry. :angryfire:

Is it possible to get a job at CHOP?
I have applied a number of times, only to repeatedly get the same ejection email. I'm not quite sure why a GN would more closely meet their needs than a hopkins BSN prepared nurse with 9 mo. medsurg experience would...whatever, their loss.

St.Christophers?
I have a BSN. Are you talking about Pennsylvania hospital or hosp. of university of penn? I think theyre different. Does either place have pediatrics? ReallyI'd be happy with almos any part time job now, but peds would make me so happy.

St.Christophers?
I have 9 months of Med Surg experience and also applied to St. Chris. I got a similar email that said: We are currently reviewing all applications and will contact you should we wish to schedule an interview with you. I am surprised at how difficult Susan McFalls has been to reach lately, because I used to be able to get in touch with her with little difficulty. I think the email is a standard, yeh we have your resume and we don't have a reason to say no to you just yet. I really hope Philly isn't on a hiring freeze. I need a job to help pay for the expenses of my new baby.

Drexel NP programs
I am considering Jefferson a lot more seriously now, mostly because it seems they allow you to take some courses online and some in the classroom. I want to start soon, but I am due to give birth this Saturday :omy: so we'll see when I get back to work and when I start school. Thanks for the info and GOOD LUCK!

how long is a new grad a new grad??
I left my job after working there a full 9 months. I was getting used to it, but my husband got a better job about 60 miles away, so I really couldn't stick out a commute of over an hour, especially considering I was pregnant. I hope I can find a new job easily, because as you all seem to be saying, I am neither here nor there. I'm not a new grad but I am not really an experienced nurse either. I still feel like I am more valuable than a new grad, though. I am a lot more confident about my practice and time management etc. Does anyone know where I can submit my resume to be tweaked and perfected?

Jewish Culture?!
just to clarify, ""meat" and "dairy" foods are never stored or prepared together either, so a truly kosher home, or facility, will have two refrigerators, two sinks and two cupboards to keep all these things separated." it's standard practice that in a food distribution facility, like a hospital kitchen, there would be 2 refrigerators, but most people who keep kosher in their home do not have 2 refrigerators. also, i keep kosher and have only one sink, but i use basins for my meat or dairy dishes waiting to be washed.

Male Chest Hair and Scrub Tops
"I've seen plenty of docs with chest hair popping out of their scrubs." Just because a doctor does it, does not make it right.

Drexel NP programs
I'm looking into the Drexel MSN program, mainly FNP. I asked if I could take core classes online and have them count toward the FNP and they said it's unlikely I will get permission. Just FYI.

Male Chest Hair and Scrub Tops
In the thread about wearing skirts, that I believe also specified working in the OR, people said that the reason quoted in the rules about not wearing skirts was 'lady partsl fallout' I think that chest hairs falling out onto a sterile surface is a lot more likely than anything falling from someone's lady parts, don't you?
