  1. I am peeking in right now, I couldn't resist the title and I work with a lot of men. I enjoy working with males.
  2. We need to be a rehab nurse for 2 years, it is not mandatory right now, but it seem to be when we were trying to become a magnet status hospital, some rns passed and some fail, but they had enough to say "we have specialty nurses with certifications" for the magnet committee, we now have magnet status and CRRN is not mandatory.
  3. We have computers in the pt's room so I chart as I go, but this is also a problem to me because it is still time consuming to get to everyones room, then I make a note of the time and have to change the time of assessment in the computer. We have care cast e document and you can change the time.

Thank you, we fill out forms for the first 3 days and then the last before discharge, somehow lately we have been filling out these lenghty forms for every shift, it's very time consuming. Thank you for your responses.

Do the staff nurses for Rehab also do the fim scoring? We chart what the patient does as far as bathing eating, dressing, toileting ect... Share with me who submit your scorings.
  6. I had to have titer, they did suggest booster if it was cheaper.
  7. Good grief no wonder I know 5 people that stopped because of all the drama, go with your gut, try to explain the first situation, if it doesn't work go for option 2 and take a breathe, time flys, read up on mental health or mother baby, trauma to get a head start. What ever you do don't quit.
  8. It took A&P 1 and 2 at my community college online, I was afraid at first but I was so happy it worked out. My exams were proct at the library.
  9. I think subjective also, because only the patient can verify the information.
  10. Not sure what you are looking for but remember everything is decreased with geriatrics, confusing and pain is not part of growing old. Age and risk factors - family relationship, afraid of losing freedom- diet, either use more salt or sugar, lose muscle mass - education still can learn but differently as everyone does at different pace. Mobility------so many things to hit on. Good luck
  11. I have always wanted to be a nurse, was a slacker in high school and a few semesters right after. I started seriously when I was your age and was a nurse at 28. You do things in your own time and you are right on time.

Lasix gets rid of pulmonary edema also, I wonder if he had potassium ordered, because lasix is potassium wasting so after he starts getting rid of the fluid he will loose potassium or was it a one time order?
  13. I hope you are gone by the time I post this. Go with your instincts. You are a new grad, find something else.
  14. Our rehab unit has a max capasity of 22 patients when it is full there is 5 rn/lpn and 3 tech. I'm in Illinois the rehab unit.
  15. I would probably like one of the weekend days off if it came to this. We have a holiday lottery and that is were someone draw a name to get the holiday off or work, but this only work on units that are exceptional with working as a team.
  16. congratulations:yeah::bowingpur
  17. I saw improvement while they were going thru the process. Now that the "package" is mailed off those improvements are gone.
  18. Our hospital is in the process of trying to reach magnet status. I have been a LPN for years at this hospital and was very happy to put my 2 cent in. We also have a school of nursing and they push for education. Well I took a LPN to RN exam and was told I could start 2nd level to pursue my ADN and continue with BSN. I pass that test with fly colors and still didn't get into the program, and I have taken the biology classes over. I was then told 10 months later I needed to take the test over it has been a year since it took it. Isn't their 12 months in a year. Magnet status really pushes for nurses to get a BSN, but how can you do that if you can't get your foot in the door. I refused to take the test over and started at a community college and yes, 2nd level. I will not work there and then turn around and give my money to this Corporation. The only people I see around here that is happy with Maget status is management, and they are the first to go when there is cut backs. I plan to get a BSN, but rest assure I don't plan on being like my former boss who lost her position and is now working by my side with me showing her how to bar chart, calculate FIMs ect.. She was a cut back after they mailed everything in so she took a job on our unit. At first nursing satisfaction was thru the roof. Not so much anymore.
  19. This is very informative. I work on a Rehab unit and the Nurse Manager was just discussing adding Music Therapy to our program. I also understand that there are facilities that has at least an hour for quiet time and during this hour music is played. There is so much information, I will see what type of degree our facility will be looking for.
  20. I work the night shift on a rehab unit, and I like to know how the pt transfers, if they are incont or involuntary, what went was said on staffing day, expected discharge date and the goal. With diet I want to know if they are on honey thick or nectar thick liquid. We have a tool called the SBAR if is a form that is broken up to Situation, Background, Assessment, and Recommendations. I fill these out at night and they can be used to give end of shift report.
  21. I first explain it to them, then we give mouth care with a special mouth wash, The frazier water protocol decreases pneumonia increases desire to eat increasesoral awarenes of food and decreases aspiration
  22. The frazier water protocol is part of speech therapy. It allows patients that are on a thicken consistent liquid, drink water. First the pt is given mouth care and than they are allowed to drink water and water is premitted until the first bite of food then the pt goes back to thickened liquid. Pills are also to be given with thickened liquids.
