RNs Relocating to Las Vegas
I'm from Chicago, my family and I love it here, its not perfect but were is it? My peev here is people are the worst drivers I have ever seen , rude, and inconsiderate. My kids go to school here one a junior in high school the other at UNLV. Its easy to blame schools for poor students, but alot of what you send to a school starts with the basic values they are taught at home way before they get into the schooling systems. Its easy to blame others for what parents are SUPPOSE to be teaching them at home. Maybe if every kid didnt have a phone for texting they would learn how to hold a conversation person to person.Like the NYC lady said she doesnt like it here so move back to NYC , you must have moved from there because of something you didnt like there. None of us are prisioners to a state, and when you find the PERFECT one , please let me and all the others know. Vegas sure beats Chicago by far cheaper to live here , weather we love, Keep the snow ice and rain. Glad we made the move.

How do you do a study group?
We had a study group 6 of us it was all business no chatting or going off are task at hand, the thing is to stay focused on what you want to accomplish for the time you will be meeting. Our breaks were for off course conversations , and than back to work. Hope that helps

Hating the "new grad" title!
Hey Kat , dont feel bad im a 23 year experienced Er nurse from chicago and having a hard time finding a job in Vegas , dont know they post all those jobs and no one from HR ever returns calls. If hospitals want to save money they should get rid of the HR recruiting folks, i mean what do they do anyway. Well i hope u find something and dont feel bad, even us old skool nurses are feeling it too. Hope that makes you feel a lil bit better. Bryan ;-)

At my age
You should be fine i went back for nursing (associate) when i was 32 working 24 hours as a paramedic and had two small chidren. Anything is possible if thats what u want, your only limitations are you. See if u can get into a associate program instead of a BSN unless your going into management, which i would discourage greatly and seeing a BSN on average makes from 50 cents to one dollar an hour more than an assocaites nurse. The problem in Vegas is no one wants to hire new grads. Iv Been a male nurse for 22 i can get a job in Vegas which i did twice over the phone for ER, but had great problems trying to get a home in Vegas. Shady realastate people and the such and most properties having multiple leans on them. Well i strongly suggest u get to school and get it going, Good Luck Bryan

Nurses rally at Nevada capitol to showcase bill
Patient ratios are fine but does anyone take into account if the nurse is incompetent , 1 or 10 this type of RN would be bad. Also take into consideration hospital census contantly change from hour to hour. Or is my patient ratio 6 and one of your family members is going to be assigned to me and i cant take them because it would put me over my ratio. Just a different view on an age old problem Bryan:banghead:

Can't get a job in chicago
Trick is to stay consistent bug HR remember those in HR have jobs so what do they care if you dont or get the managers name of the unit u want to work and call that person , alot of times HR does not forward the applications to the unit to make them aware there are people who are interested. Try this course im sure youd have much better luck at getting a response sooner, or better yet go the the hospital u want to work at and see if u can get a hold of the manager yourself. Good Luck Bryan Rn

no one will hire me in Las Vegas--what's the deal???
Hi Amy remember me well i sold me home in chicago and should be in Vegas living by next month. We got so lucky and bought a nice 3000sq foot home in Cenetenial only 1 mile from your hospital maybe i can do a part time gig for you or pick up a few hours working agency. Ill be sure to stop by to see you to buy you lunch. My wife and I were going to stop by on Friday to see you but are time was very limited, we were only here 3 days and had to find a home. The two days looking were terrible lots of repos with tons of work to do, more like $300,000 dollar rehab houses, amazing what people have done to them concrete poured in the toliets and drains, huge holes in the walls, kitchen cabinets literally ripped from the walls omg i cant even begin to tell u what some of them looked like. We both thank God we were so so lucky to just stumple on the home with are agent ,the home has only been on the market for 8 days, it sold before us for $550,000 we got it for 312000. Whenever u guys decide you want a home let me know are realiastate agent rocks she is awesome. Well i just had to share the good news with everyone i know , Guess i beat the Vegas odds,:yeah:hope to see u soon Bryan

Experienced Nurses please help New Grad!!! HOW DO I DECIDE???
If your interested in going further in school with your nursing U of chicago and RUSH win hands down great salary 100% tution for further education. Olympia Fields just tried to dump their level 1 status but were refused by the state of illinoisto do so. From the people i do know that "have worked there" very understaffed. Point to remember is anyone paying sign on bonus, one has to think why is that? Good indication of the turnover rates. You might also want to consider Cook County or U of I, those are places with great starting pays and great benefits. Well best of luck to you whatever your decision, Bryan

Las Vegas nursing in the future
Hi im Bryan im also a nurse in chicago ready to move to las vegas as soon as i sell my home. Just to give u a clue there are tons of nursing jobs in vegas the problem is you apply and no one ever calls u , u have to be very aggressive in follow up to get anywhere. They are currently building three new hospitals there. The total i think is going to be 16. Iv been an ER/Cardiac nurse for 18 with experience and still had to get on them to get going on hiring me.Just annoying with all the ads u see for nursing there they dont follow up. No wonder there is a nursing shortage there. Bryan

New ED nurses who "know it all"
Like i tell new grads in the Er experience is EARNED along with respect so if you want to be respected you must respect others. Iv been an ER nurse fo 16 years and still learn new things and new ways to do things from others and im grateful they have knowledge to share with me, Er nurses are made to sponge information from each other. Like i told a new grad once who was inappropriately and completely wrong , iv probaly forgot more than you know. Like Mark Twain said once never pass up the opportunity to say nothing. Like the old timers who trained me , if they ran across something like your dealing with they d let them learn the hard way , sometimes the best lessons learned are those you learn the hardway . Hope the situation gets better for you Bryan RN

St. Bernard Hospital and Medical Center - insight please!
First of all being from chicago and a ER Rn for 18 years its called St Barnyard the hospital is in a totally NOT SAFE area. Its in one of chicagos finest Ghetto area high crime area . As far as the hospital its a DUMP did my nursing clinicals there years ago, once while doing clinical the hospital ran out of alcohol swabs and we used washclothes to wipe people off with. If i had to say there probaly isnt any WORSE place to work , youd be better off working in a nursing home BY FAR. You seemed like u wanted a honest opinion Well u just got one Sorry if i busted your bubble. But youd be compromising your personal safety and nursing license in that place. Bryan
