It depends on the ER. I work in the ICU and get may Pts from the ER with almost no info in the EMR. Forget about lines, you're lucky if they were entered. And most of the time the RN giving report has only had the pt for 5 min so they know nothing.

Your gpa seems high enough, not to effect your pell grant status, why can't you take another semester or year and get the grant to go to RN school. Most school will only average a C with a repeat, usually can only R/D a D or F.

Sounds like an error somewhere to me! But I think what they are getting at is this. For example you primary is running NS at 250/hr. the you hang a ivpb to run at 50cc/hr. When the ivpb is done, the primary kicks in. All the meds left in that line will now run at 5x the rate it should be,until it clears. Most stuff that must run slow I used the concurrent setting and then do a flush of 5-10 cc at the same rate to clear the line. Great for drugs like lasix gtt that run at 1cc/hr. run a tko with a lasix chaser on the b-port(hospira).

When people say that we get paid too much or don't work at all, I give them a scenario. "You have two total care Pts in the ICU, both on insulin dips with Q 1 hr blood sugar checks, both in iso for CDiff. You have just had a code brown in each room and its not even 8 yet. So far, worth the 30 an hour. Maybe. Now do that every hour for 12 hours, would that 30 be enough." Most would probably say no. They obviously don't know what nursing is. Stand strong, you are tougher than them.

Take the ICU job if that is your dream! Give good notice to the clinic and offer to work until you re replaced! Don't say anything to the clinic until that job is in the bag!

Pvt works. But you have to wait till your results are sent from Pearson the the BON. Usually within a few hours but I've heard if people's taking all day. There is a pop up that says something like "the results are being compiled and have not been submitted to the board." I got this pop up so I waited an hour and retried. Passed at 75Q! Unfortunately I live In Cali so no early results, took 2 wks for the BRN to get it together.

It will take at least 3-4 yrs to get an ADN, the ADNprogram is 2 yrs, plus pre reqs. In Cali it can take 2-3 years to finish pre reqs. My BSN took 6, i finished all my GE before starting my program. It's tough to get into the needed pre reqs when your class standing is low. For BSN pre reqs are a minimum for 2.5-3 yrs.

Keep the snacks in your pocket. When you sit down to chart you be shoveling the snacks in. Keep the snacks healthy. Also you didn't say you were on any mess for the diabetes. If you are on insulin or PO meds you may need to adjust those in days you work. Obviously you need to talk with your endocrinologist. If you aren't on meds then I would Definitely talk to the MD as to why your liver isn't kicking in to drive up your blood sugar. We have a type 1 on an insulin pump on our ICU unit. She has ended up in the ER a couple of times. She allows here range to to set higher so she doesn't get to low. Good luck!

Most of the books out there are content review. They are all about the same do the questions and practice tests. You need to so some alternate style type questions and critical thinking questions as well. I used Saunders and http://www.learningext.com. Sound like you need to do some content review. You should be shooting for 80% on content review. Since nclex is CAT, everyone's test is individualized. People will say, my test was all Peds or my test was Ob. That is usually bc they struggled in the area and the test is designed to give you that content till you pass the standard. It does the same for question type. Focus on content and then critical thinking questions. Nclex assumes you know the content so it throws a lot of critical thinking questions as the test gets tougher. After that? Think prioritization. Make sure you get that content down. Good luck!

ATI didn't really help me that much, get a content review book like Saunders, do the content tests, get at least 80%. Then you need some critical thinking questions. I used http://www.learningext.com. It tis more content but it has a CT Q bank. My school used ATI as the final for each content area. Then we had to get a 95 on the predictor exam. ATI is tough. It's almost too much content! Good luck. Don't over think or add info to the questions. When you are done, do the Pearson vue trick!

This happened to me last month. Drove me absolutely bonkers. After 4 hours of dressings and holding pressure I had the fellow come back. The lido with epi trick worked great. It was bleeding from the skin nick they do before the dilator was inserted. I was so ******. I spent all that time and he walks in and fixes it in 5 min. Can't use more than 10-12ml though.

If you can afford it, go for that bsn, do the accelerated program if you can. If not ADN will get you working so Long as you don't live in a large urban city. I live in SoCal. Many of the hospitals here do not hire ADNs right now. Our market is saturated with RNs(no shortage here) so they can be more choosey. Plus with Magnet status and all that BS, they want to have RNs with more educational training.

I carry NSO but the facility I work at doesn't know. Remember, If you have deep pockets, you are a target. Many nurses I know don't carry insurance since to hospital covers them.

You have to decide how bad you want it. If you want it bad enough you will figure it out in the first semester. NS is so overwhelming you basically have to take it week by week. I like to google calendar idea. Set up a calendar, change the due dates to sooner and get it done early. At our orientation Th Dean of nursing spoke she said, "Don't make excuses, this isn't nursery school. You are a professional student and responsible for your own learning."

Did they require one when you started your bsn program. May e they would take that one. We had to do one when we got in, just in case there were any hits that might make is difficult or impossible to get a license.

You should do some serious content review. I did Saunders. Don't believe you can get 60% on practice tests and that will be enough. You need to get more like 80%. If you are going to pay for a review course then you want to make the best of it. Review courses don't cover everything, just the major stuff. So a good content review book, app, whatever should be done. After all the prep, remember that the test is about critical thinking and it is possible to fail even though you know all the content. Go to the walking shoe store like the walking company or new balance, get FITTED for a shoe and insole. Shoes are not an area to skip in, don't cheap out. Once you know your actual size you can look for shoes. In have Narrow feet and my foot pronates really easy, I have ALWAYS had a hard time Finding shoes. If I get out under 150 it's been a good day. Most people wear a shoe that doesn't fit well. I don't have custom orthotics either. You would be surprised what a good shoe and orthotic support will do for your knees. When you find a line that fits well stick with it.

I wouldn't get caught up with that kind if thinking. You will never be able to argue your point to get the questions right. Take each question, write it out make sure you write out the conversions or do the DA. It's not your job to question the test unless it is so obviously wrong, like 1+1=7. I know in our program we had to get 100% on our med dosing. Show your work, that way if there is a problem the teachers can identify the error in the thought process. And what ever you do, leave the "every Qs must be perfect" feelings at the door, it will not make you look very good to the professors and can be seen as arrogant.

When you do the content review, you should be get 80% or better. Also remember that the NCLEX is CBT. If the option is ADN OR BSN, the BsN is best if you live in a big city. If you already have an RN, then do the bridge program. There is already talk of making the RN a bachelors prepared license. In 2015, the NP is moving to a PhD program, get ready!

BSN only, especially out here is SoCal, many hospitals will only hire BSN now. There is some talk that it might be required for licensure in the future. As for the ForProfit school, tell her you will pay the max Amt for the state school. And the 40k usually only covers the Rn program, not the pre reqs. Probably another 40 right there. If she is smart enough to get in, the a state BSN program should be fine. It's gonna take 5-6 yrs as most BSN programs are 3 yrs plus pre-reqs. Put your foot down!

No it's not wrong. You usually need to wait 4-8 hours to try the trick. There will usually be a pop up that says there is an exam in progress and the results haven't be compiled yet. Once the results are sent, the trick will work. I'm from Cali and we didn't have the pay option to get the final results early. Pearson VUE works.
