  1. Hi, I'm a new nurse who graduated in May with my BSN. My dream is to work in NICU/peds, that's why I became and nurse, and I don't really enjoy working in adult land. I got a job in the cardiac tele unit because no peds or NICU positions were hiring. I've been working on my own for about two months now, and while I really like the other nurses I work with, I really don't enjoy my job. I dread going in, I don't find the kind of satisfaction I desired when taking care of my patients, and I just don't think I'm cut out to work with adults. It's making me feel depressed and I've been having a hard time adjusting to working full time and not being in school. I've been telling myself to stick it out for 6 months to a year before I look into transferring, but it's just really difficult. I was wondering if anyone has any advice? I don't want to hate being a nurse and I'm really worried about burning myself out.
  2. No advice from anyone?
  3. Hi, I don't have much hope for responses since my last topic got none, but I just thought I'd ask anyways since I really don't know who else to talk to about this. I'm a new grad nurse who just started in the cardiac tele unit last July, and I really don't enjoy where I work. Working in the NICU has always been my dream, but when I was applying for jobs they didn't have any open positions. I told myself I'd work where I am for a least a year, but I find myself dreading work and I don't enjoy it at all. How long do you think it's appropriate to wait before I can talk to the NICU manager or start looking for open positions? I don't want to just abandon my unit right after getting hired, but I don't know how long I can keep going on this unit.
  4. Hi, my name is Becca and I graduated from nursing school with a BSN in May. My absolute passion and the reason I wanted to be a nurse is to work in the NICU, however when I was applying for jobs after I graduated there were no openings in either of the NICUs in my town. I accepted a job in the cardiac telemetry unit, and I'm just coming off of orientation and working on my own this week. I enjoy it, and I feel like I'm learning a lot, especially about the nursing process, but I know it's not where I want to be. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on the best way to try and get into the NICU. I don't want to just leave the CTU because I feel like it would be rude for me to get a job and then leave right away, but I know I don't want to be here long term. Is it best if I email the manager of the NICU to tell them I'm very interested in working there, or should I just wait and apply if there are any open positions next spring? I don't know if I should talk to my nursing manager about it, or if she'd be upset about me wanting to transfer, but I don't really know how to go about trying to get into the unit! Someone mentioned to me as well that I could try cross training or seeing if there are any PRN positions in the NICU, but I didn't know if they would necessarily want a new grad and someone in such a different unit to fill that sort of position. Does anyone have any advice on transferring into the NICU from such a vastly different unit? And how I can get my name in and express my interest without offending my current nurse managers. Thank you so much :)
  5. I hope it's much harder than the NCLEX! I'll just keep reviewing and hope that helps
  6. Well I passed all my ATI exams that we had to take in class, it's just these ATI tutor exams that I'm failing! I'll just keep reviewing the content I guess!
  7. Hi, I graduated from my BSN program a few weeks ago and I'm scheduled to take the NCLEX-RN on June 17th. I have the ATI tutorial program to help me study, which we got through my school. I took the ATI comp predictor and got an 87% chance of passing on the first try. So far, I've taken the fundamentals and the pharmacology practice tests and failed both even though I studied very hard for both of them! I did well in school and graduated with a 3.6, but I can't help but feel like I don't know anything when I take these ATI tests! It makes me very worried about failing the NCLEX. Has anyone else used the ATI tutor? How do these tests compare to the actual NCLEX? Does anyone have an advice on how to study?
