Suggestions for RN's covering LPN's please
say what??????? the only thing i am not allowed to do is spike blood. as for ivp it depends on the hospitals policies. i worked in one hospital where i did picc line care, blood draws and ivp from and to the picc line, another hospital an rn has to do it. but as for lpn's being a burden, i have to say very offensive. good luck with your management skills, that is all i can say.................................

Do you have friends at work?
I have friends at work that we do meet for drinks, lunch or shopping, and we do also keep up with what is going on with each other. When we work together we have a great team atomosphere. Its nice to know that you can count on someone outside of the work place, because in the work place you may need help and I know I can count on co-workers and I trust them. I have not had a bad experience with anyone of them, we all have each others cell # which comes in handy if an emergency comes up we always have a source to help find our shift replacements. I do have friends that are not in the medical field that I do things with also, but not as much as with my co-workers and not as often.

Fall Out Girl....
yea, you will get accusotomed to seeing blood, you may still get woozy but there are people who hate to suction a trach or do oral care or who do not want anything to do with eye drops cause it freaks em out........the eyeball I mean. If it is the smells of a decub I totally understand............you will overcome and be great, don't be hard on yourself this is a process not an event.......................

Why do people go into nursing? Is it just the money?
The NCLEX changed where I live 2 yrs ago April, from what I understand just by talking to some passing RN's and some that failed. criteria for the percentages of the categories of questions has increased. Personally I think that is a good thing, but it scares me also, I know I am a competent nurse but get the old test anxiety, so come spring of 09 I will be sweating it for my RN boards. I do agree some quality of nurses are not what I would want to take care of me or my family but does'nt all professions have that, for example the hair dresser who convinces you that a short do would look great and you had long hair for nine years..............just a thought...............really:loveya:

What happened to all my strenght to pass the exam?
I too am sorry for your stressful situation, I agree, if you can step away from the caregiver role and student role, just relax for a short time, possibly regroup, get a pedicure or manicure, do something for you. I believe you can achieve your goal and become a great nurse. Good Luck and God Bless.:redbeathe

improving your nursing improves you?
yes, you did put it nicely. i know sometimes when a family member starts in on me that the happy go lucky attitude sometimes fades and i try to redirect back to the pt. i had an episode yesterday, my cna left her pager at the nurse station and i get a page in all caps get rm# off bedpan, needs assist now. i go to the pt room and the spouse starts in on me about calling 4 times and not getting assist for the pt, and talking about throwing the bedpan in the hall to get attention. i know the look on my face when this was said was probably like "what the heck", i assisted the pt and the cna came in and cont. to apologize to the pt, and all i could say was if you call and do not get a response from the cna call for the nurse. what else can you do? the cna was not busy at the time so there was no excuse for this to occur, it just made us all look bad. when the shift ended manys hours later, the pt hugged me, and the spouse just smiled.........

Do you say you're a nurse...
I am an LPN and work with alot of RN's the only thing I don't do is spike blood. My co-worker's are very supportive of the LPN's they work with, I do not think I have ever had someone say Oh your not an RN.......I am a nurse and that is how I inroduce myself to my pt's, I am also in nursing school but I do not say I am in Registered Nurseing School.......

Do nurses do...
At shift change we do walking rounds, which is great because you have gotten report and you can give a once over during rounds, eye the fluids infusing, pca infusing rated, check iv sit, loc, etc. if you find something not wnl the nurse from the previous shift is there to see also and possibly assist with a pt's immediate needs. After I have made rounds I go back to my pt's rooms and ausculate heart, lungs, bowels, check pulses all extremities, check vss, our cna's are great to get anything out of range to us asap. Also thru my shift I communicate with my aid, during showering there may be a reddened area or contusion I have not seen yet, so I also depend on an extra set of eyes.
