I enjoyed the show. I saw nurse Jackie. It was like all the other said, a horrible show. Jada did a good job with this show and I look forward to seeing it each week.

Summer school blues
Not taking A&P this summer but I am in summer classes. I found a good study book I am reading to get ready for the class. It is called "Textbook of Basic Nursing" but it covers A&P a lot. Each chapter give a terminology review, acronym review, and A&P review. Then it give a true/false section which you have to correct the false statements, matching, and multiple choice. I don't think it is as detailed as the class will be but it helps. I will see how I do in class when I take it.

Is anyone else addicted to nursing student vlogs on youtube??
I found that having to many will disorganize me. LOL I only use the wall calendar and my appointment feature in my cell phone.

Should I just give up hope?
One of the issues I see is that you must change your study habits. If you are like me a TV person, remove the TV. I did and it helped. What ever keeps you from taking about 3 hours or more to study a day remove it. If you can. Watch your diet. It will effect how you study. I found that some foods make you sleepy. :angryfire We all enjoy hanging out with out girls. This is not something you can do for a while. Put all this on hold. Talk to your friends, if they are truly your friends they will support you. If not, you did not need them. Follow the advice on this forum. Use the help the school offers. Take advantage of everything. It will help you. I know you can do this but you must want it more than you want anything. Do not let "college" interfere with college. You are there to study and get into the program. Look at college for that reason and that reason only. I hope everyone here has helped and given you the strength to continue. Use this site. It is full of information that will help. Good luck and I will be praying for you.

Should I just give up hope?
I understand how you feel. I know it seems bad but you can do this. Before you start another semester, get your house in order *so to speak* Nursing School will require your full attention. I have spoken to a lot of people who are in school and they all tell me one thing, It is hard but you can make it. You will need to look at your history. Did your grades drop only due to the hurricane or were they bad prior? Was it due to bad study habits or a lack of dedication? I am not trying to be mean but often I find that when I am doing bad it is due to my lack of giving 110%. You also must ask yourself how bad do you want this? This is more than a passing fling. It takes all of one and you must be willing to give up all to have it. Many friends have told me that you will not have a life. All you do is school, study, little sleep, and grab a bit here and there. If you party, you will fail. Keep your head up and don't drop out. If you are serious, stick with it, you will do better.

Is anyone else addicted to nursing student vlogs on youtube??
Like everyone has said thanks so much for posting this. I did not know you could see vlogs on youtube. I am enjoying them. I think I will do one for myself. Just to have a record of all I go through. I did not find any good ones for pre-nursing. I think you could share a lot for others to master the class. :yeah:I must admit, I did get a little frighten when she said 12 chapters and then the test. That is a lot of reading.

I am so blessed to have someone like you share what you have with those of us who are about to deal with what you already did. One of the problems I always have is taking very good notes. You have given me a starting point and the organization needed to move forward. If you can please forward me the following notes: Hearing & Equilibrium Endocrine System Overview Lymphatic System The Heart Cardiac Physiology Reproductive System

I seem to know less the most
Wanted to update my information. Well, I am stillllllllll doing pre-reqs. I feel like I will be doing them for the rest of my life. I had to stop again. We moved so now I have to go to a different school. I will be attending TSU this fall. I pray that I will be able to apply for the program next fall. Keep me in prayer that it is the case. I was going to take the medical asst. class but a friend told me it would be a wast of time and money. This process has taken me through so much and in it all I have come to learn more about who I am and what I need to successed. I am happy that I want need to buy scrubs. It will all be given to me by the school They have on uniform which is white. I will have to get white shoes. I spoke with some of the students there and they told me to be ready to read 10-15 chapters in two weeks and then have a test on all that information. I was like, man. So I have been reading a lot more and watching TV a lot less. I want to be ready for this. I am also working on "critical thinking" it is hard. I just hope I am doing to much.

nursing program vs. prerequisite courses?
You guys have given me a lot to think about. I have been trying to learn the "critical thinking" it is not easy. We don't naturally think this way and to do so means you must learn a whole new way of looking at things. I am looking forward in getting into nursing school. I am not looking forward to all the work. But I will do what ever it takes to successed. I joined this site some time ago and wanted to go to NS but life got in the way and I never really got things going. Well this time I am not going to let nothing stop me. I am taking the time to do what I need to do to complete this process. I will be a nurse. It is all I have ever wanted to do. No matter how hard it is I am going to do this.

Digestive System
We just started the digestive system and I am losing it. Can someone help me with learning this system? I have done well up to this point. I made "A's" all the way so far. Now we come to this and I fear I will not do as well. Need some study tips.

Just became fearful
Thanks so much for all your words. I am moved to successed. I know that with all the obsitacles you had to face and made it I will too. Reading all the post here has helped me a lot. I did not do well in high school and I was worried that I would not do well here. But if I apply myself I will keep up good grades. Now can some one give me a start on how to Formulate your plan, pick your school, pick your classes? I know that in choosing a school, I should look for things that I like about the school but how do I know what that is? I am not sure about the classes but I think that will fall into place once I have a school. Now formulatint a plan that one I need lots of help with. I feel better today then I did yesterday. We are moving to Atlanta and I will have to look for schools there. I was going to attend in Nashville. Dose anyone know of any good schools there? Atlanta is new for me. I don't know anyone there and I have no family real close. My in-laws are moving to Pensacola, FL in May. My brother-in-law is a pastor and he has a new church there. I googled it and they would be about 5 hours drive away. That is a long drive so I will not get to visit them much. Having a support group in Atlanta would really help.

Just getting started
I would never take Micro durning the summer. I am not one good in science so I would need it as slow as it can get. I look forward to all your reports on how A&P is going. Let us know what you are dealing with in each class session. Good luck to all of us who have a desire to help make this world a better place.

Anyone taking AP I in the summer?
I am thinking about taking it for summer session 11. I have started reading my A&P book. I would love to have the sticky. Keep us all posted those of you starting early. We can all use the help of each other. :heartbeat

Just getting started
I am so excited to see so many starting this fall. I was thinking about doing a summer class for my A&P. How hard would that be? I really want to get all my pre-req done by the end of the year and stat applying for NS for next Fall.
-
Previous health care experience
I think it is really sad that they don't take the MA program credits. I did this program and the A&P we did is almost the same as what I am going to do int school this fall. It seems to me that the only difference *according to my book* is that we will go deeper into tissue and cellular make-up. But the rest we had to know. I learned all the bones and muscles and body organs and all that. Oh well, at least it will give me a heads up on my class work.
-
Just getting started
I am not quit that far yet. I still have many pre-req to complete. I will not be looking into the program until next fall 09 or so. I know things will go well. I am just starting my A&P 1 class this fall. I will not take classes this summer or maybe just one. Not sure yet. I know you will get in. Don't let age make you feel like you can't. I am a late starter and still I want this more than anything. I will be successful.

Learning new words
I was reading through A&P and saw many words that I just could not pronounce. How do you master this task of pronouncing the very words that we will have to use daily in class? I wanted to see if I could find a program that would say the word and I repeat it. This would help me a lot with memorizing these words. Dose anyone know of one?
-
Just getting started
I was reading through the threads but I did not see anyone starting this Fall 08. I will be starting this Fall 08 and would like to have any other new students join me with online chat. We will have many ups and downs. This way we can help one another.

What are you doing to prepare for school?
I want be starting this fall. I may start next year but I am trying to get moving so that I don't have to much to worry about. Well, I got the cheap stethoscope Still looking for a good pair of shoes I have three sets of scrubs but I know I will buy more. I find that Wal-Mart has some good ones. I am starting my A&P class this fall so I have been reading A&P for dummies. It is very clear and easy to follow. I love this book so much. I find myself reading it sometimes all through the night. *just can't put it down* I will go out with friends maybe a week before school but then it will be all school I will keep some of my cloths just for fun I am looking forward to being a nurse and helping all those people with all that :typing ha ha ha
