  2. That would be up to your unit manager. Most places would like for new grads to start working full-time for the experience. Just ask your manager to see if it would be ok to switch to part-time.
  3. I'm currently working on a medical floor and my year is up in August. I'm planning on looking for some outpatient surgery nursing positions.
  4. It's not hard for me because I'm a night person. Try darkening the room to keep the light out so you can sleep.
  5. I work in another town so I haven't been in touch with any of my classmates in awhile. However, I've heard of a few people switching jobs already. I have been on my job for the entire time, 8 months.
  6. I've graduated last May from nursing school and have been working on a stepdown/tele floor for almost 8 months now. I've been interested in impatient PACU and outpatient recovery since observing these areas during nursing school. I've have heard from many nurses that ICU/critical care is required for these types of positions. I don't have any critical care experience, but I currently work with patients who are on vents, trachs, tele monitoring and some cardiac drips ony my unit. I also plan to take ACLS in the next month or two since it is required for my unit. My question is would most outpatient or impatient recovery units consider hiring someone with a year of experience of the above? I would appreciate any imput or advice. Tracy
  7. 1:4 and 1:5 on a stepdown floor
  8. I felt the same way when I started orientation. I thought that I could never manage without my preceptor, but I am so far. I've been off orientation for a week now and surprised on how well I'm doing. I still have a long way to go and will ask a lot of questions, but it will get better with time. Also remember that even when you are off orientation, you will never be "on your own" there will always be someone around with more experience to help you. Good luck!
  9. I think it all depends on if the person is a night or day person. I'm a night person so it works out great for me. Day shift was too busy and hectic, but what made it worse was that I came into work with only 1 hour of sleep. Now that I'm working nights I'm getting 7-8 hours of sleep before work.
  10. I'm Tracy and I've graduated from an ADN program this past May. I took the boards in June and passed which makes me a RN! In Sept, I will be working on a Nephrology floor at a great hospital that has a three month new grad orientation. I'm very nervous and excited at the same time. I'm glad that this thread was made because I'll be posting here a lot once I start. Congrats to everyone that has already started their jobs!!
  11. Congrats! I knew that you would pass it!!!!

Thanks everyone!! Good luck to everybody else who is taking the test as well!!
  13. I wouldn't besides a lot of people seemed to have those same scores before they took the test.
  14. Just relax and don't do anymore studying. Good luck to you and I'm sure that you'll do fine!
  15. Thanks! I used the 2005-2006 Kaplan review book and it costs about $35. It has about 180 questions inside the book and 180 on the cd as well.
  16. I've only scored 60-70% on my review tests and still passed. Don't worry about the scores just understand why you got them wrong and right. It seems like you're preparing very well for this test and I"m sure that you'll do fine.
  17. Saunders and NCSBN are by far the best. Saunder's explains the rationales very well which is very important and ncsbn's test questions are the closest to the nclex. I passed due to these study questions.
  18. It took 11 long days for me to get results back. It's a terrible feeling to wait, but just be patient and I hope that you pass!! Good luck!
  19. 1. How many questions did you take on NCLEX? 75 questions 2. What study materials did you use? Did you take a test review course? saunders, kaplan, and NCSBN, took review course offered by school 3. Did your SON offer any testing (ERI, ATI, HESI)? no testing 4. How long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting? 11 long days 5. What were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)? I was positive that I had failed 6. Was this your first attempt at NCLEX? first attempt!
  20. I passed the test!! I can't believe it now!
  21. It took me about 1 1/2 hours to take the test. My heart started to pound really hard when I got to question 75 :chuckle I felt that my test was really hard because I had tons of priority type questions and like you said all of the answer choices were very hard to pick from. I've got a ton of tv shows that I haven't watched yet, so I'll be watching those to kill some time!
  22. It doesn't matter because everyones test will be different. My friend only got 2 choose that all apply questions and passed. Don't worry you've passed girl!!
  23. I hear ya Christine! I took the test yesterday and got 75 as well. Those priority/choose all apply questions got me real good. The hardest part is waiting to see if you've passed/failed, but thank god that I'll be working all weekend and keeping busy. I'm sure that you've done very well Christine and I hope that we'll both pass this test!
  24. Is there any way that you can temporarily find a part-time job such as retail or something for a few weeks? These kinds of jobs usually hire people on the spot and that way you can get the amount of money that you need for the test. Good luck to you on the interviews and I hope that you'll get an offer soon :)
