I'll be 32 this August when I start.

Base RN pay in the rural South east is ~20-25/hr. The hospital I work for pays CRNAs ~150k/yr. I'm about to start CRNA school. I have punched the #s and it will be very "financially worth it". This past year I managed to earn around 85k, but I worked Baylor weekends (Fri/Sat/Sun) plus 2-3 days extra during the week to get there. Based off of my circumstances and projected student loans vs. expected future salary, I should be able to pay down loans quickly ( In the end, becoming a CRNA and being "worth it" depends on your circumstances and how you define "worth".

My current hospital CEO has verbally offered a stipend while in school. Though, I have nothing in writing yet. Also, I've punched the numbers and I may not need the stipend, but it would be nice to have a job lined up for when I'm finished. My wife and I plan on coming back here anyway.

Accepted verbal offer. Now, if they'll just get approved. My optimistic side is saying that Gooding operated since '69 & I'm sure they'll get the accreditation. But, reading these posts aren't doing my pessimistic side any favors. Hope to see you guys/gals in August!

Pretty much what he said. I worked on a Med/Surg floor for 2 years while in my ADN program. Usually, there were 2-3 CNA's. Being a guy, you will be called on to do the heavy lifting. I think my time as a CNA was a great learning experience while in school.

Phoebe Putney in Albany, SGMC in Valdosta, Tift General in Tifton, Colquitt Regional in Moultrie, Archbold in Thomasville all have RN jobs posted, but that's the opposite side of the state for you. Good Luck!

Need a job quick? EMT basic can be had in a few months (6ish i think). LPN is usually 1-1.5 yr. ASN 2 yr, BSN 4 yr. Which is best for you? You have to answer that one yourself.

Get all of your paper work in ASAP. I had mine in a week prior to graduation. Had my ATT 2-3 weeks later.

I graduated may 11 from the traditional program. I liked the school. There were a handful that commuted such as you. Good luck.

I've only cried one time while working in the Hospital. I became an RN in June '11. I was a CNA for 2 years prior to that on a Med/Surg floor. One day we had a patient that was on the floor c/o DIB. Unknown to me at that time, this pt was terminal and was sent to our floor in an attempt to provide a comfortable death. When the patient c/o increasing DIB, I tried to get several RNs to come look at the pt and 2 blew me off. Finally, another RN came in and we got the ball rolling on some supportive measures and the information came out that the pt was dying. The pt died within 30 minutes. I was so mad and so upset that I had to leave the floor for a few minutes and gain my composure. A few tears were shead.

My OB clinical instructors were great. They would round prior to our arrival and directly as the pt's if they would mind having a male student in with them. My First rotation I went into a C-section of twins. My second rotation I was supporting the mom's leg while she pushed (yeah right in the mix), while a female student was on the other side. This mom didn't have a support group of any kind. I was glad to be there for her, she was appreciative of me and the other student. I didn't hear of any of the other guys having issues.

Unless it is a requirement for employment, I would wait. Some hospitals will pay you to take the class. The hospital I work for pays you while in class, pays for the exam, and gives a yearly bonus for being current. Also for PALS. But, that is just the hospital I work for.

You and possibly 50 others...Another great source of experience would be to apply for a job as a nurse's aide/patient care tech/cna. With your level of education, it may make up for the lack of having your CNA license.

Darton College in Albany, GA has AP 1 and 2 online or hybrid (class online/lab on saturday). You have the option to pick up your specimens or have them delivered to your house.

We had a "lunch n learn" where a Hurst reviewer came to our school in hopes to upsale us their review program. I thought that the 1 hr presentation the lady game was 10 times more helpful than the 2 day lecture we had on the same subject earlier in the semester.

That is a crappy situation. You're getting the static b/c of the standard of care that you do not "abandon" the patients. It does seem like a double standard, but you have a responsibility to take care of the patients when assigned to work. My next step would be to try to find out how far the investigation has gotten. Try to discuss again to your boss that you really do not wish to work with said coworker in order to avoid a confrontation. Good luck.
