  1. I wish we had them!

I think you did right! It was not reported to you from the regular nurse that you needed to call the doc! Don't stress!
  3. Terrible! I am so glad to do home health! I don't miss LTC!
  4. It definitely should be up to the nurse, tech, etc. I know my patients inside and out, so do not wear gloves for any normal care that is not invasive or risk of body fluids!
  5. We had mannequins. We also practiced some skills on each other when it wasn't too invasive-on our own!

I especially love it when you make it a point to see someone when you are there at work, and they are no where to be found during business hours!
  7. Interesting! I think there is always a risk of infection from these injections and that is hypothetically the reason for alchohol wipes!
  8. Yes! I went back and forth a few times and tried different things, but always came back to nursing!
  9. I am also in Ohio and have been out of power since last Sunday. The power company says they are prioritizing and doing everything they can. Has your facilty manager called to inform them of the needs of the residents. If nothing else can be arranged...the residents should be transferred to other facilities, hospitals, extended stay with family, etc. It just endangers patients...no proper showers, hot meals?, tripping hazars from improper lighting and extension cords. I cannot believe management does not have a contingency plan for this situation. I myself was unable to work for 5 days because my patient (home health) had to go to hotel as he is on a vent n feed tube at night. Now I am back, but have to go to Y to shower, etc as I still have no power. They are saying it could be up to another week.
  10. I have lived in Dayton area for 7 years now and am soooooo ready to move. I got my LPN license in Jan and have since worked for 3mo in LTC, and now 2mo for Home Health and agency PRN. I am considering moving to Akron or Canton area. I am wondering about cost of living, job situation-are there some- and pay. Eventually-in next 1-4 years I will be going for my RN. Any info anyone has on these areas, where to start, etc would be appreciated. Obviously I can't move until I get a job...How do I do that from a distance? I am willing to drive for serious interviews but do not want to unless there is a significant chance of getting the job...does that make sense?..how can I let an employer know that without turning them off? Thanks everyone.
  11. I passed nclex pn in jan. I wanted to do homehealth as I was an hh aide whilst in school. I was repeatedly told you need a year experience. well I took a NH job and hated it. Kept applying for HH and now work for 2 agencies as HH nurse and LOVE it. Don't give up...try your school career office if they have one. keep applying...they are getting more and more short handed and willing to train you.Really it comes down to your confidence in your skills. I started doing a regular 5 day week 8 hr day patient and that helped A LOT. If its what you want keep trying
