  1. Here's my opinion on assault and battery: Whatever a cop can press charges on, we should be able to press charges on. No one can argue with that.
  2. They're not providing comfort measures if they're not givin' painkillers!
  3. I was just talking with a guy at work trying to get into school, and he said that they really look more into GPAs but If say you had an equivillant GPA of a female some colleges will choose you over a woman, to increase their demographic. But I don't know for sure, every college I've talked to about "what they look for" has been a different experience.
  4. I think people should be allowed to demonstrate on paper that they cannot pay the bill before interest is it accrued.
  5. I meant that this is the interpretation of the passage to a JW employee exclusively. This parable tells a JW that (in context) if they are a nurse, give people blood. My attitude a JW patient, well, I abhor the practice, plain and simple. Before pulling the religious freedom card, I could care less if you are a JW. I have complete disgust anybody of refusing to give a child a blood transfusion. Originally wasn't going to comment on it, only because their is nothing I can say that would change that. It's like scientology and psychiatry/"detoxing"... Children don't have the ability to choose their religion. What if a child gets a transfusion because it is an emergent situation and he's a complete John Doe? Then afterwards, the parents are found and are outraged. Will the child grow up and think he is damned? Or will he grow up and be thankful his parents weren't there to prevent him from living? I'd better shut up before I go on rant and anger someone.
  6. By "blood" they definitely mean meat/ pusle diet, which is Jewish practice. I don't think that was important in this exerpt, though, but the lesson behind the story: Do your job the way you were taught. Allow them their choice, but don't jeopardize your own faith. It's about religious tolerance, I think?
  7. Well I have no room to talk. My dad had a small heart attack less than two weeks ago prior to this story. He was having the same chest tightness (no pain, but he is diabetic) We took him to the ER there and waited and waited... I asked them several times how soon they could get his tests in and that he had a heart attack a short time ago... but they kept saying 'we'll get there soon as we can'... finally after a half an hour of being in that room and his tightness increasing I stole an EKG machine and gave him an EKG. Shortly after, my mother (who is a cardiac icu nurse) arrived and read it. It looked okay as far as she could tell, so we just continued to wait. It took almost an hour for a tech to get in there and give him a legit one. It was uncalled for. I assume they didn't think he was emergent because he didn't c/o pain, but if they would have just looked at the records they would have known I was serious that he had had a heart attack a few days earlier. They did end up admitting him and cathing him though. I know this was not the most legal thing to do, and some may not agree, but I'm not ashamed one bit for doing it.
  8. My nurse mother cried when I told her I was going to go in to nursing. No, seriously. She cried.
  9. I would marry any smart person person who loved me and enjoyed my cooking :spam:.
  10. If you didn't mind moving: St. John's hospital in Springfield IL has a good BSN program what I've heard. Hard, I'm told, but good. They have a program that will pay your tuition based on signing a contract to agree to work for them (3yrs-1/2 tution, 5yrs- tuition free) I thought they had a waitlist but according to the advisor, they don't. Their website is kinda bare when it comes to information but you can request some by mail. http://st-johns.org/education/schools/nursing/default.aspx
  11. I too have trouble with my memory in the workplace. I have been jokingly called 'dingdong' at work but people at work don't realize that it isn't carelessness, I am actually forcing myself to focus really hard and still having issues with my mind wandering! I'm such a hard worker they don't even think about it. Sometimes I wonder if becoming a PA is not a good thing to do... too much riding on doing things right and quickly, and not making mistakes. I know if I could overhaul my concentration though I could be a very good PA. My psychiatrist retired and I live in a different area now, but I didn't get much results from what he prescribed anyway. Sometimes I want to ask one of the nurses which psychiatrist to go to, but am afraid of what they will say, or if they will loose confidence in me, and since I'm newer this is not a good way to start a career. But I know I need to figure out a solution because I really want to be able to suceed!
  12. I'm not a nurse but everyone makes mistakes. The people that are gossipping about yours have probably made the same, possibly even worse mistakes! And you have to think that they were gossiped about too. I think a big part of working in healthcare is getting used to the social environment... in a week or to they will probably forget all about it.
  13. Whoever says they've never talked about their troublesome patient is lying to you. Not only is this not a bad thing, it is also very necessary. It is important bonding mechanism for coworkers. It helps us get through the stress of the day.
  14. If there were no difference between an RN and LP/VN, every LPN would go to school another year for RN and get paid more!
