  1. WOW, here in NYC, do to the high call volume, 2 EMTB'S staff a BLS (basic life support unit) and respond to all the trauma jobs; gunshots, stabs, jumper downs, MVA's and lower level priority call like difficulty breathers with no history and asthmas of a certain age. our system and FDNY respond to about 1 million calls a year. i have been a paramedic for sometime and i can tell you the EMT's get the bloody stuff, they call for our help when it is unmanageable. the starting is $20ish for the hospital based and $17ish for the municipal based BLS units. just last night we had a double shooting and one was a traumatic arrest. EMT'S got there first and requested medics for the traumatic arrest... we also get dual assigned on all medical arrests one BLS unit, one ALS unit(2 paramedics), a fire engine and a patrol supervisor. so the moral of the story is, anything high profile or just plane gruesome there will be EMTBS AND MEDICS working it side by side.
  2. :yeah:lmao " I SWEAR I CALLED HER NAME 4 TIMES IN MY HEAD AND SHE STILL DIDNT COME!" oh well her loss...
  3. do you or have you ever had a criminal record? call em! they will tell you exactly what the wait is................
  4. love the koolaid smile..LMAO:yeah:
  5. congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. I would say the same thing if you were 10lbs, 3feet tall. don't give up the opportunity..... you will be ok.
  7. Im not a nurse there, but i worked as a paramedic in that neighborhood for sometime. the area is one of the ruff ones in terms of quality of patients: gunshots, stabbings, shootings, ect.... but you are right behind a community college and there is an FDNY station on premise, you have HHC police in the hospital and you are a couple of blocks from a police precint and a subway(two blocks)... i would not turn this oppurtunity down because of the location... there are tougher places in the city
  8. 5 days, and received it in the mail on the 6th... Pearson trick works ! congrats
  9. dec'09 graduate... Since the transition from svcmc to spson things have been hectic( moving and setting up). With my class graduating, an evening and day program running they have there hands full. One thing is certain, it has always been best to stop by and pick up the application in person.
  10. Graduated DEC/09. passed my boards and there was never a problem because the school was not NLN. your NYS lic doesnt say which school you attended.
  11. I could not have said that better myself, deadline and limbo. I am in New York and the wait is killing me.
  12. Your daily routine is doing for others, but we gotta do for ourselves sometimes too. Transfer!
  13. Who is this paul fella? SVCMC FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. :bowingpur:heartbeat ....so happy for you!!!! My dream as well ....congrats you will be a great critical care RN
  15. And that's why ICU nurses rockkkk!!!!!!!!:heartbeat:yeah:
  16. you will here form them. the school prides itself on focusing on its soon to be graduate RNs. remember your orientation/admission is also the same time as the senoirs graduation. so they are getting everythimg fine tuned to send there graduates to the Nclex and working enviornment prepared. just be patient, soon you will be there focus of attention like we are..... and congrats! the majority of instructors are the best at what they do...you will love it...
  17. svcmc of queens has not been a part of a hospital for some time now. this does not affect your clinical rotation or nursing education. i am a senior and the only things that have changed are: clinical will be held at LIJ forest hills instead of st johns queens and queens general in lue of mary immac. hospital. the instructors are the same. and the corriculum unchanged..... not to say that SVCMC doesnt have its problems, but what school doesnt? all credits are transferable to Bsn programs as garunteed by NYS higher education. and to add, if you are taikng coreqs while at svcmc all those coorifice are taken and queensboro comm. so there is no truth that NLN not sponsoring SVCMC has anything to do with transferability of credits.... reasearch your choices and choice the one that suits you the best.. i am almost done and if i had to do it over i would choose SVCMC again...
  18. goodluck to all who wish to become a part of the SVCMC family
  19. same credentials times 7 years and i had to start from the ground up here in New York City.i even as an LPN you are only allowed to miss the first semester, which only consists of about 4 clinical rotations(2yr ADN). i am 1 year in, time goes so fast you wont even notice it
  20. ALMOST DONE ........HANG IN THERE WE ARE IN THE HOME STRETCH OF THE SEMESTER !
  21. the preceptor will make you feel nervous, imagine it is you and your client only..and it will go by quickly. have confidence, you can do it....
  22. providing care for an old lady?guess you mean older adult............ what care kind of care? insertion, removal, or routine pericare?
  23. I had the same question on an exam. Insulin is given continuous iv drip, until ketones levels are under control. simultaneously with fluid volume replacement..there may come a point when the glucose level is under control but the ketone levels are not, at that point iv insulin is continued and fluid replacement is switched to a dextrose containing solution (D5W) to maintain glucose levels until ketones are corrected..
