  1. When I first graduated I worked nights in LTC/skilled nursing and started out at $18/hr plus .75 cents differential and $1.00 weekend dif. The home I currently work at pays .50 dif for noc shift but nothing extra for weekends.
  2. I know working in LTC their is more money to be made. I make more than $18/hr as a LPN in a LTC facility.( and only been a nurse for a year) If you enjoy working with the elderly you may consider working in LTC. The RNs where I work make about $25-27/hr. Plus their is always opportunities for overtime:)
  3. Thanks everyone for all your info., really appreciate it.
  4. I got the pop up as well than found out today I passed. Praise the Lord!! I think waiting for the results is more stressful than the test. Good luck everyone! Will be praying everyone passes:)
  5. Thanks lovemybaby. You already argued all my arguments for me. Apparently I stepped on someones toes..ha! Went out for a little celebration and come home to am email where I'm called a whiner...lol! But I stand corrected "anon student" we did need an LPN program/instructors to give us the basics and I did learn the basics at central tech...for that I am grateful. But I think my hours of studying and memorizing helped me most on the NCLEX. And lovemybaby I agree that this was written from one of the "in the office" students or maybe "ANON STUDENT" is even an employee perhaps?? LOL (Wow! Is it okay to go on and pretend you were a student when you really aren't.) I am perhaps a little bitter after finding out I can't apply to the school that I was most interested in till I'm employed for at least a year, so that sets me back to Spring '11. But I do think that the school has potential and that the instructors were more prepared for teaching it may possibly turn out to be a great program...but only time will tell. I believe the new director will make a great addition and things hopefully can change. But "anon student" I obviously am not the only one who feels disappointed in the program. And I am happy for you that you thought it to be such a great program...hmm did you have anything to compare it to??? And lovemybaby is correct I, as are you, entitled to our own opinion and that is what I gave. I am thankful it all over and that I passed both nursing school and the NCLEX. And I am not going to resort to petty name calling and continuing to defend my opinon! Best of Luck to everyone!
  6. Just graduated from Central Tech program in Sapulpa and I along with most of my classmates would NOT recommend that program. It is a complete unorganized disaster. The teachers lack ability to teach, mostly just read word for word out of a text book to us. They have very little experience themselves, not to mention are very rude and condescending. It has taken 6 weeks to get our NCLEX test dates, because of the inefficiency on the schools part. The biggest issue is that they have lost their NLNAC accreditation during our school year. They will tell you its not a big deal or its not important but it is. All of the RN schools in OK look at if you have graduated from an NLNAC accredited school, and since it wasn't, couple schools won't even take my application till I've been employed as an LPN for a year, and most of the others are requiring extra test to be taken (which I would not have to take if they were accredited). They didn't even tell us they lost the accreditation, I found out when I called a respective RN school and they looked it up and told me. I could go on and on about how I regret going to that school but I'm just thankful its over. Try your best to go to LPN school somewhere else, or do more research and make sure that they have changed the program Most of my classmates will pass the NCLEX but its not b/c of the school. We all paid an extra $150 to take a NCLEX prep class and have all been studying are butts off. Good luck!
  7. Please read next post but here is a website to check and see if your potential school is accredited http://www.nlnac.org/Forms/directory_search.htm
  8. Took my NCLEX-PN around 1 today, stopped at 85 questions. Tried the personvue trick and a pop-up came up!! Does that mean I passed!! Or is it to early to check?? Thank you!!!
  9. Does anyone know how long it takes after taking NCLEX you are on the nurse registry? Thank you
  10. NCLEX-PN this month!! Excited and nervous! But we can do it
  11. Hi. Making a move to OKC area....and trying to figure out which area we should move to. Have it narrowed down to Yukon, Bethany, or Mustang. Looking for a smaller school system. Daughter will be in 9th grade next year and would like to be in school system that is not overwhelmingly big... (currently attends Jenks School by tulsa). Also need good job market w/ LPN positions near by, cheaper housing, and safe! Thanks for any ideas or suggestions.
  12. Gleya15, I'm taking my nclex-pn soon just waiting for my ATT. Did you notice any certain items that they focused on on your nclex? I've heard that infectious control and delegating are a big focus right now??? I've been trying to study my infectious diseases but it so difficult to get them all down. Really nervous. Hope you did good, and find out soon!!! thanks for any info.
  13. Taking NCLEX PN in few weeks and very nervous. Has anybody used the online Kaplan PN review? I have been getting horribly low scores? Is the NCLEX ?'s as hard as the Kaplan? If so, I am in trouble. Any suggestions for study tips or books? Thanks.
  14. Hi Brandi! I am doing the Kaplan Q-Bank but only 50 ?'s a day right now. I need to step it up a bit...its so hard to stay motivated. I am with you about feeling like I am going to pass than I get discouraged when I read on her that many have not and some taking for the 3rd time. Unfortuantly I really stuggle w/ the infection control part. I've heard that every so often they change what the NCLEX focuses on so hopefully in Oct. it will still be what we are studying. How are you doing on the Q-Bank? I only seem to get 50-60's? Are you taking the PN or RN NCLEX? Maybe we could be help encourage each other and throw around ideas if you would like. Seems most my school mates are not to worried about the test as I am.
  15. I am taking NCLEX-PN in October. Very nervous. Been studying Kaplan, and Saunders. Does anyone know if the questions still seem to be focusing on prioritization, delegating and immunizations? Good luck to everyone!!!
  16. Thank prado!! Do I need to get Saunders edition 4 or do u think 3 while suffice?
  17. where did u purchase modules?
  18. We live in Jenks School district and my daughter has learned more bad habits there than any other school system we have been in. I wanted me daughter to go to Jenks because I had heard how good their school system was. She is only in the 7th grade and comes home telling me everyone she talks to says they are in gangs. I also have emailed her teachers several times with no response. She was flunking her classes and never posted to their website so I had no idea until four days before the end of the 9 weeks. Very disappointing. I have heard wonderful things about Bixby tho. And it seems to have anything you need, shopping stores and close to Tulsa. Also have heard good about Glenpool and Sapulpa.
  19. I know it heartbreaking about Tulsa. It use to be a wonderful city.
  20. I am kinda in the same boat. In LPN school and we have two instructors that combined only have 11 years experience. Neither have any experience in LTC, and one only in one area of specialty. I think that in the end we will just help our with each other, and study like there is no tomorrow and be fine. I know it is frustrating and scary thinking "how will I ever pass the nclex" but study and I bet we will.
  21. I lived in Tulsa back in 200-02 and lived about a mile or so from ORU. So when I was accepted to nursing school and moved back to Tulsa, I moved back to the same area, considered "South Tulsa". (91st and Lewis) And it has changed...a lot. It is not safe and some what scary at times. I don't even take my dog outside at night by myself. The apts. I live in had a shooting a few weeks ago, my license plate has been stolen off my car (while parked next to a Sheriff car in my apt parking lot), and my apt. is a roach haven. I clean obsessively but can't get rid of them since my neighbors seem to be okay with sharing their apt. with the roaches. I reported my license plate and the officer told us to move out as soon as possible. He said the area from 71st on up is not safe anymore. He also told us not to shop at the walmart at 81st and Lewis because it is so unsafe. He recommended moving further south or getting a house further south. Or moving into an apt. that is a gated community or more expensive. Unfortunately with us being in school we are unable to do so. Instead as soon as our lease is up (43 days and counting) we are moving to sapulpa about 20 minutes away. The rent is more reasonable, what we pay for an apt. we are renting a nice home for. The crime rate is lower and it just "feels" safer. Not trying to be the barrier of bad news I just wish I had someone let me know what I was moving into. The officer did give us a few recommendations if you like let me know. I was told by one LTC that they start their LPN out at $18 or so.
  22. I am currently in LPN school and also a single mother. I do not work except one weekend a month and during breaks (Thanksgiving, Christmas etc.) but I have noticed that many of the students who do work do not seem to do as well. But that does not mean that it is not possible to work, but I wouldn't think full time. It is very time consuming, we have homework every night plus 2-4 test a week. Where I live we have a program called WorkForce who will pay for single mothers to go to school. They pay for the whole program, and help out with rent and misc. bills. But you have to apply early. Also most schools have government grants and loan programs. You may also see if a local hospital or nursing home will sponsor you and help pay for school. My job paid for $1000 in return for a one year contract. Call the school you are interesed in and ask if they know of any programs for single mothers. Good luck!!
  23. Hi have a BS degree but choose to do the LPN route. I was accepted into a RN and LPN program and choose to go the LPN route. My reasoning is I heard you learn a lot of skills in LPN school that are not necessarily taught in RN school and BSN. Plus if I hate being a nurse ( which I doubt will be the case) than I will have only spent one year of my life intead of the 2-3. Also I am a single mother and I need to be able to work soon, and do so while pursing my BSN
  24. Started today the 19th and go back on the 5th. We start clinicals shortly after we return so I am okay with a shorter break. But we have 2 test on the day we return:(
  25. I am an "A" student, but I don't think it is going to make me a better nurse. I think maybe it is because I have spent so many years in college and just know how to study and what to study. I am blessed to be one of those students to not have to study as much to earn my A's. But, to be honestly I am not as good at skills. We have not started our clinical s yet, but as far as skills so many of the "C" students kick my butt. A lot of it has to do with their experience but also some to do with the fact that I over think things and second guess myself. I am not as confident because it is not always straight forward. But, I believe I will make a good nurse because my heart is in it. And I will do my 100% best to make sure my patient is well taken care of. So I say don't worry( excessively) about your book grade, just keep your heart in the game, use your knowledge and you will be the best nurse you want to be.
