  1. Hey Adam, so I see one upcoming classmate here. As noted above going to Pitt this fall. BSN GPA- 4.0 18 years of assorted ICU exp. 1160 GRE 3.5 written ACLS and CCRN
  2. I wish you the best. Fellow oldster out.
  3. Older than dirt, I find that disturbing. I suspect you are employed by the VA like I am and I am aware of that CRNA program and if things do not work out here at Pitt, that is my option #2. I am 40 and can still bench over 400lbs (mybe 500 with a little training instead of school) there are very few coworkers I have that are in better condition than I and that whole tone that you experienced makes me think about me EEO annual training.... I hope you get in the program and take them for a nice long run!!!
  4. Dogbreath, I fininsh in Feb. also!!! I agree with your points regarding the school and I too was less than enthused with my devry instructor, but the class was a manadory diversity class. I do have one more devry classs and that is the economics just because I need thirty credits from them or I would have clepped it. Good luck and congrats!!
  5. Then should we prohibit the nurse from entering the CRNA program who has intentions of just being a part time CRNA related to her desire to raise a family? See the can of worms you can open with this thought process??
  6. Well, there are some 50 and 60 somethings at my gym, and they can run circles around some of the 20 somethings. I have always said it is not the age or the miles, it is the maintence.....
  7. I hope you are not too old either. I am 40 and applying to CRNA school this fall. I have been an ICU nurse for 18 years and I finally decided to press on. So you will not be alone. One of my coworkers just Graduated CRNA and he is 46.
  8. True on the gas prices.. Let's go nuke power!!
  9. Me neither. Random maybe...
  10. We will need to hold hearings on the legitimacy of "foley-boarding". I do think NT suctioning is torture, by the way...
  11. Vandy, was it a ct patient? Cabgs rountinely have 3. the last being for the pericardial space. Is it a patient with a hemothorax?
  12. Vandy, was it a ct patient? Cabgs rountinely have 3. the last being for the pericardial space. Is it a patient with a hemothorax?
  13. Ditto as above. But have seen troughs done more frequently on renal patients to determine when to give the next dose...
  14. Yes I was a disorderly and a nurse tech while in school. I worked in the CCU that I ended up becoming the CN of a couple years later. I learned more there working then I did in my clinicals...
  15. Well, OK then we will be "tank commanders" then... Driving lessons will be available online and the model of the tank to be driven will be determined by your particular State Board. This will be GREAT in rush hour traffic!!
  16. I can say I am proud of my title as RN, I have no problem saying that I am a "male nurse".
  17. I am with the majority here. I will not be doing anyone a benefit if i am infected also.
  18. I use same arm also. But at different times of course. As far as the pacer, BPs are fine. Wouldn't want her to use a shotgun on that side though... I hope she recovers soon.
  19. OK people, I have done my searching. (sorry it took so long, back to school) I was told by the people I went to for this information that because it was said, or rumored back in 1993, the level of information of that type was limited in cyberspace, so it will remain a rumor with no substantiated documentation... so far.. But hey , if you put some hot sauce on that crow its not bad..... Never the less, if she felt that way then, people can change. maybe that is why she has done what she has as of late...:bowingpur
  20. Josh, at 6'3" and 275 lbs , I would look like a Rhino running. Kudos to ya! I used to run in the Army. I just respect ya for it and stick to what I can do c.v.-wise without hurting anybody...
  21. If someone gave a med and the order cannot be found , then you need to follow up with the nurse first, I may have been given in an emergent situation and not documentented in the chart properly, or if you work in a paper system, the paper could have been pulled out and is in the fax machine, or in a computer system the doc said i will "put the order in the computer" and he had not done so.. yet. Find out the whole story then if neglegent, take action. Have you people not heard there are three sides to every story? Get at least 2 of them.
  22. I am pleased to read so much about users here with therapy dogs. I guess the three labs I have are my "therapy animals".
  23. I know of a horse farm near Pgh that works with kids with various disorders... they help with balance development/redevelopment. Also there are ranches out west A gal I new who was a Psych RN worked there for teens with eating disorders. I am certain a google search would reveal any such places around you.
  24. The nursing world is full of managers, what there needs to be is more leaders. People respect leaders..
  25. Thats a big negative.. I have not forgotten. Have not had a day of or time off to do so.. the SICU is hoppin and prisma city here. Got a freind on it now. need to do a nexus/lexus search. that is an engine that searches all documents. These people who say they did a google search it is only good for metatags... Nexus is the search all what they have and google is to search fo what they want you to find.. I just do not need it to pay to use it, my freind does. I have found some info about we nurses as undereducated and overpaid. Thats close enough to an insult to my profession for me, maybe not for you, but If a local councilperson said that about me, I certainly would not vote for them. But that is only me and only my opinion.
