Hello Everyone: I got my first interview with MSKCC this coming week and I was wondering what the interview is like? How many interviews can I expect before getting an offer? What's the atmosphere like, specifically in ICU? Many Thanks!!

Accepted job at NYP-Cornell!
Hi Everyone, I had my 15 MNS phone interview with one of the recruiters at NYP. I wanted to know how long does it take once your resume is forwarded to the nurse manager to get a call for an interview, based on your experiences? How long should I wait before I call the recruiter? Thanks a bunch!!

Anyone work on the Progressive Care Unit at Benedictine Hosp. Kingston, Ny
I used to work there not long ago...They are in the process of merging with Kingston Hospital across the street. Its a very good unit to start as a new grad. You never feel alone and somebody is always there to help you. The nurse manager (Yvette) is awesome and easy to work with.. You can't find a better nurse manager. However, they are always short-staffed and lack of equipment at Benedictine.. I think the change to Kingston Hospital is for the best...Maybe we'll be more staffed... I think u'll like working there.. Any other questions, just PM me!! Good luck!!!

RN salary at NY Westchester Square Medical Center
It was really good. I was offered the position but still don't have no clue as to what the salary will be. There's a test 50 questions: basic math and some of drug questions. She asked very basic questions you would expect from an interview such as strentghs and weaknesses, qualities, why should I hire you? I'm sure you'll be fine.

RN salary at NY Westchester Square Medical Center
Hello Everone!!! I'm coming up on my year at the hospital I work at in upstate NY. It's very far from me... I travel 104 miles one way to work... I truly love the staff I work with, I've learned so much from them. We work as a team and I never feel like I can't ask a question because it sounds too dumb. Having said that for family reasons, I can't afford to move up there. I started applying to hospitals closer to me. I got a call back from the recruiter from NY Westchester Square Medical Center. I have an interview scheduled for next week. Can anyone tell me anything about this hospital at all, how was the interview, nursing culture, salary? I looked at their website but its so limited. Any input would be greatly appreciated!!!

feeling guilty not going in due to snow
I live 104 miles from work. It takes me 1hr30mins to get to work if I'm doing 80miles/hr consistently on a good day weatherwise. I called out of work today. My area (Northeast) got 12 inches of snow and where I work is scheduled to get upwards of 18 inches. I drive a compact car. So, NO I refuse to feel guilty...

BIG DILEMNA between hospital position FAR away or case management!!
The recruiter told me that the nurse they hired previously wants to transfer to another site. The hospital is Benedictine Hospital in Kingston, NY. I have family living within 40 minutes in Pleasant Valley (maybe I'll move there for a year, get the experience and then try to get into an ICU position closer to home ). I think you're right!!! Thanks for the advice!!! Hang in there!! I know what it feels like...

BIG DILEMNA between hospital position FAR away or case management!!
Hello Everyone, After graduating in May 08 and passing the NCLEX in August, I had no luck finding a hospital job in NJ or NYC, so I expanded my search to upstate NY and got a job offer in a PCU unit starting in March 2009. Fast forward to today, I get a call from a job for a case manager position that I interviewed with back in December which now has an opening and the recruiter told me that the position is basically mine, if I want it. (I wasn't hired the first time around because it came down to me and the other candidate and she is an experienced nurse!!!). My problem is the case manager position is in Manhattan (i.e closer to me, 30 minutes drive) and pays more in the low 70's but the hospital position in upstate NY is 2 hours away and pays in the low 40's. If I take the case manager position, will it be impossible for me to get into the hospital setting, if I choose to in the future? Will my career options be limited? Or should I just bite the bullet and take the hospital position for the experience?Any nurse who has been through this? PLEASE HELP!!!! Any feedback will be appreciated!!! Thanks.
