Some hospitals will hire you if you are ELIGIBLE to take the test. It's always a good idea to apply early. It can take as long as two months (in my case) for your hospital of choice to contact you with an interview offer. So, Go for IT! In terms of 'attractive" areas to live/work in, Kingston, Poughkeepsie, Albany, and Binghamton are attractive areas to live and the cost of living is really low. I would not plan to move out here until you have landed a secure position.

I'm not familiar with the Finger Lakes area. Are you originally from that area? Finger Lakes is quite a distance from NYC. However, I know for a fact that the further up North you go the greater opportunities you will find as a BSN prepared nurse. Honestly, I don't see the situation in the job market in NYC improving anytime soon, especially with all the hospital closings.

There are plenty of opportunities in Ulster, Dutchess and Orange counties of NY for a new BSN graduate. I also relocated to get an opportunity to work in a hospital. I was recently hired at The Kingston Hospital in Kingston, NY (Ulster) and recieved my license this past March '10. I will highly recommend you start researching the area, hospitals, and apply early if you are serious about relocating. I'm not sure where you live now, but upstate, NY is quite a change from NYC ("downstate"). Congratulations and good luck on all your future endeavours!!!

I worked as CNA in Long Beach and made 14/hr other LTCs in the area make as high as 18-20/hr through agency staffing. Wherever you decide to work, I'm almost positive there will be alot of overtime to request....meaning time and a half Hopes this helps. PM me if you have any questions. Good luck

Thanks Yendis. I'm really concerned on the nature of the interview. It felt really laid back. I'm also a new graduate and will love the opportunity to work in the progressive care unit. Yes, yvette seems really nice! The merge with Kingston hospital will occur within the next few weeks. Maybe, this will help combat the issues with supplies and understaffing. I really hope I'm offered a position. I will not know anything until the end of this upcoming week. How long ago did you leave Benedictine? Where do you work now?

A few days ago I interviwed for full time evening and nights on the Progressive Care Unit. The nurse manager was extremely nice and warm hearted. However, the interview last for 30 minutes and consisted of the job expectations, scheduling, policies and more.... I was not asked ant of the typical interview questions that I expected. Is this a good sign???? I'm soo confused. Please help
