Nursing Informatics from Outpatient nursing
Since there is a huge deficit in NI nurses, many hospitals and EMR tech companies hire nurses and they train them to do the informatics part. Ofcourse with the lack of experience and degree the salary will be on the low side but after 2 years in Informatics you can change institutions or you can ask for a better pay and a better position. In NI there are many levels of expertise and many roles, with experience and degree (if present) you will be able to climb the ladder. If moving is an option, I would highly recommend EPIC in Wisconsin, they do hire nurses with no experience or degree, as I said before, you will start from the bottom of the ladder, but it is a good choice on the long run. Especially when you get your EPIC certificate, you can use it for better positions later.

Nursing Informatics
I did my MSN in NI at Walden Uni. 100% online classes except for the internship hours where I had them at my hospital's informatics department. It was pretty easy and I was out of school since 2008 (started my MSN in 2015-2016). I recently moved to the US, and back home I didn't have the opportunity to practice NI. Here, I am still under contract to do bedside care until next year, I am actively searching for a job, no luck so far (possibly because I am bound to a certain geographic area which is NWA). I think if I want to move to other states, it will be easier to find a job. My plan B is going to work for EPIC in Wisconsin. I highly advice you to get this degree, on the long run and with few years of experience, pay will be decent and you even can-do contracts with hospital to run their projects related to NI.

Neutropenia and Nutrition
Salam wait a little bit. a WBC of 5000 or 4000 or 3000 or 2000 or even 1000 is perfect for a cancer patient on chemotherapy. and she doesnt need any neupogen support when her count is like that. we usually start neupogen for Neutropenic patients which means WBC they were skiping her weekly doses becoz of the protocol rquirements maybe but not becoz she is neutropenic... she is not neutropenic with such counts. + she can eat anything she likes as long as her counts are WBC > 500 ANC > 800 i hope she will get better soon :)

Chemotherapy administration
Salam dont forget to check the blood studies. especially SGPT and Billirubin. and some of the studies are specific for different medications. u must be aware of them. wear double gloves, gown, face mask, eye shield, hair cover and shoe cover. more or over protection is always good and wont hurt. double check the Dr. orders with the protocol ( if it is available ). calculate all the doses according to the BSA or weight ( depends on each kind of medication ). NEVER forget the MESNA or the Leucovorin doses that usually follows cyclo/ifosfamide and Methotrexate respectively. make sure there r a lot of hydration before and after the chemotherapy. if there is none remind the Dr. thats all what i have in mind so far :)

Job requires mixing chemo and breastfeeding
Salam it is preferable not to get urself exposed. when any one of my friends r pregnant we ( the males ) usually hang the bags and connect them to the patient's IV set. and then we deaccess them. it is better to stay away from chemo.
-
neupogen
Salam 99% of the time we give it as SQ ( slowlyyyy ). when the patient doesnt pick up and remains neutropenic we give it IV. we dilute according to the pharmacy policy. and each dose has different dilution. we stop all running IVs and IV medications. we give it over 1 hr with continous monitoring. mayeb in adults things are different.

How to flush a POC
Salam most of my patients have Polysite ... our routine is flushing the polysite with 500u heparin in 5ml NSS IVP BID. and we use the same concentration before deaccessing the needle. if the patient weighs less than 10 kilo grams we flush the polysite with 50 u heparin in 5ml NSS IVP BID. and we use the same concentration before deaccessing the needle. we ran a trial to flush the polysite with 5ml NSS Q8hrs. but it failed. most of the polysites started to get blocked or at least we had difficulties in withdrawing blood. hope i was useful :)

Is nursing the right choice?
Salam if u want a job just when u r done with ur school ... go to nursing if u go to medical assistant u will get paid as much as half of what u will get in nursing even less it is true .. it is hard .. it costs a lot .. but if u think u can sacrifice ur social life for 3 years and get urself devoted for studying .. then it is nursing i failed 1 course (lost 1 year) i learned to arrange my priorities and to sacrifice to reach my goal and i graduated .. will start a job at the 1st of august ... as soon as that good luck anywayz

Satisfied!
Salam May 2 2008 ... Oncology/Pediatrics inpatient (during my internship for my leadership clinical course! ======================================================= The day duty started as any other duty the routinely round was done ... at the last room she was there sitting in her bed ... looking at her is enough to notice that she is suffering maybe she wasnt in pain .. maybe she wasnt thinking about the suffering issue but her tracheastomy ... her alopecia ... her week eyes ... her unhealthy teeth ... her gastrostomy ... are more than enough to express suffering 2 days later ... i was assigned to take care of her again she was still in the same room ... in the same condition she remembered me ... and the new day duty started @ 9 am .. while i was administering her medications .. at the beginning she refused to take her medications ... so some time was needed to be spent in the room after a short disscussion abt the importance of the meds. she agreed to swallow them but she was crying ... so swallowing dissolved meds in D5 water is really hard she swallowed the meds ... then after a minute she vomited i was trying to clean her clothes and her bed ... then i noticed that she is staring at me ... i asked her what is going with her .. she said nothing i asked ... did u feel sad because i asked u to take ur meds and u vomited she kept staring ... and then suddenly .. she said "i love you" i smiled ... i said i love u too she spent the last 2 months of her 7 years suffering of rhabdomayosarcoma in her esophagus u cant talk to her and not love her, eventhough she nags, she resists she make u spend more time with her to take her meds and recieve her treatment but still .. who cant love an angel ? who cant feel with her ? or at least show her that u r feeling with her when u r looking at her amazing tired eyes ... hearing her suffering voice seeing her childhood burried under 5cm of tumor cells listening to her honesty ... u cant fake ur feelings u cant show her that u care ... ur heart will feel the pain .. will feel that burn at the end of the duty ... my legs took me to her room i stood beside her bed .. she was fighting with her mom to get her ventolin when i entered the room , her mom asked me to give her the ventolin even if she doesnt want it i talked to her ... asked her to take the ventolin ... and she agreed i stood there talking to her mom ... then she told me "give me ur hand" i extended my hand .. she carried it between her two small palms ... pressed on it with her small fingers as if i knew her for ages .. as if i spent the 7 years with her .. shared her sorrows and happiness then she put my hand on her cheek ... and closed her eyes at that moment ... i felt magic .. i felt disconnected from this world i felt as if i am in another world .. floating over the winds u took my hand .. i wish i can take ur suffering, i wish i can take ur pain i even wish i can take ur tumor ... ur stage 3 tumor u touched my hand ... crossed my heart u wrote ur name inside every chamber ... on every vein i want to see u growing... i want ur pain to disappear only if i can do something about it .. i am ready to take the risk i am ready to sacrifice .. i am ready to pay my soul for u only if i can ... i want to see u happy ... spending ur childhood as any other kid sweatheart ... i am sorry .. i cant do much to help you .. but i promise u i will improve my knowledge and my skills to ease this hard journey for u and for every child i take care of i will never forget you ... i cant forget u i left her room, unable to think .. unable to talk But Satisfied!
