My two cents on most of these post. First of all, getting into debt to get a career or degree you dreamed of. First of all you can't always avoid debt. In your life there will always be something you owe, but the choices behind it is what matters. From what I learn, being in debt for materialistic items are not always a good choice. Being in debt for your education is good but only up to a certain limit. If you can afford to pay most of the tuition yourself, then do so. Every financial aid office would tell you, "borrow only what you need.". Sacrifices are basically the key to any success. I'm a full time nursing student, working almost full time or even booking overtime when there's a deadline, a mother and a wife. Yes I do cut down on my sleep to about four hours or less but what kept me going is my dream to become someone that my daughter can look up to and be able to able to help my husband and family financially, living a less debt free life. Being in a rewarding career is also the reason I choose to go to nursing school. Second of all, I know some private nursing can cost up to 30,000 per year, but you decide whether its really worth graduating from such a high end school or find something within your affordable range. I don't believe a patient is going to ask where you graduate from when you take care of them but they wuill appreciate more if you can actually apply what you learn in school quite confidently. Take note into your learning and work hard for what you want. Try to minimize your debt if you possibly can. Sacrifice is the key to any success and I can't stress that enough. I know everyone situation/circumstances are different. But if you choose to go into something you know you're going to need money, cut out other expenses you don't need and use that money to pay for the tuition or cost instead. For example, eating out, shopping for new clothes and shoes, going to the movies or even going on a vacation. You'll find that when you do that you'll become less stress of debt or anything that is even on a more persoanl level. Well as that is said, good luck to whatever you choose to do, but just choose wisely.

I think it's doable...I don't live as far down, I live in East Brunswick, exit 9 off the turnpike and take the Suburban Coach bus into work everyday. Sleeping on the bus, is comfortable so it's not too bad. Plus if you're working 12 hours shift, then you can work every other day or so, so it won't be too straining. I believe some places will also cover your cost of commute, giving you transit check, like my husband's company. Good luck. Best thing to do is to try riding the train in and see how you feel about it.

hey everyone, i'm taking a&p i and ii during the summer, breaking down into the first and second half. i have found a manual that is very helpful and good to have. i carry it everywhere with me and glance at it when i get the chance. thought i should share with you guys...it's "mosby's handbook anatomy & physiology - patton & thibodeau" you can pick this at any book store, i got mine from barnes & noble. this has the diagram, description and summary of what you need to know. when i find something that's not in the book, but is covered in the lecture and we need to know, i jot it down alongside the column. hope this help you guys, as summer session is a cram in a short period of time. good luck to all

Hey Panthyr and pumpkinhead, thanks a bunch for the support. Unfortunately, I haven't taken any Bio classes yet. I did try to start taking it this spring semester with A&P I but circumstances at work make it difficult for study time. So I dropped out of my classes this semester. I am planning on taking A&P I this summer. Wish I had finish one first and couldve taken two this summer to get it out of the way. I did break the news to my bosses and they're willing to work with my schedule and I can do as much as I can from home. So its not too bad, but starting Spring of 2009 I have to find work elsewhere. I know they take nursing students at hospitals as a nurse aide, just going to be a big pay cut but it will pay off at the end. Good luck with everything and the news breaking part too. Lexi

I don't hate what I'm doing now. I have a great employer and love what I do, but just cant stand a few people I work with. I guess you find that everywhere you go to anyways. But the only thing is I don't see myself doing what I'm doing for the rest of my life, I want a rewarding career that will lead me somewhere in the future. I guess job stability is what I want, and being able to help others makes it even more rewarding. Have been a PCA before, and I find it satisfying at times and there are times when it's not so much. It's all the same no matter where you go, but how you make of it. Well good luck to those of you who are waiting for school to start and for those who are still applying. I'm a mommy to my lovely 2 year old daughter and a wife, also working full time, and going to school full time. Forgot the actual words, but I always remember the saying "Life is only what you make of it." So it's understandable to those who have to work to maintain their finances (bills, etc.) and those just to get by. GOOD LUCK and CONGRATS!!!

Congrats to everyone that got accepted. I got accepted also. Really nervous, and still wondering what I'm going to do about my finance, since I'm a mom, wife and working full time. Still breaking the big news to my boss about my acceptance and if they're willing to work their schedule with mine so I can still keep my job but only work part time. Wish me luck guys on that area. But beside that, good luck to all as we're one step into the world of Nursing.

Hello everyone, I have taken mine in December of 07. The TEAS is not as bad as everyone think it is. It's fairly simple even for those who have been out of school for so long. It's basic, simple questions that you would have from high school. I've studied what I can, not to mention I had finals the very same week. So I scored an 88.8% with a 95th percentile. Hope that gives you a good idea. Math you have to be quick with your thinking. If you ever played the Brainage game, basically it's as simple as that. There's a coupel conversion problems from like inches to meters or something and someother stuff. One A&P question so don't overwhelm yourself with that subject. My suggestion is to take the online practice assessment exam they have on their website. That will definitely give you a better idea of what you really need to study for. Good luck to those who are still waiting. Honestly, relax and just breathe when you get there. It's so much easier than the SAT and the ACT, that's for sure.

When is the deadline to apply into Trinitas School of Nursing?

Hey School07, Sorry for such a late reply the holidays was hectic for me and I was out of town for quite some time. I'm emailing you right now so hopefully it'll get through to you. When is your exam? Hopefully I get it to you soon enough. My back up plan is the Physician Assistant program at Rutgers/UMDNJ. I'm not sure if our GPA is good enough. Everyone I spoke to here have such a high GPA, and I'm having doubt about my grades now. I'm such a nervous wreck now, and waiting until April for a letter is such a long way. I just recently changed my major at MCC yesterday to Biology Pre-Professional Major. The classes are close enough to the Nursing so it won't be a waste for me to take them. Plus it's the major that will transfer into Rutgers PA program with UMDNJ. So what is your back up plan?

Hey there, I think they just recently changed it to the TEAS this year or last year when they change to Raritan Bay joint program. They are no longer with UMDNJ. There are 100 open seats, with overall and science GPA considered, along with the TEAS exam. I'm not quite sure how many applied this year and who got what. I was an engineering major before i switched over to Biology. So most of my classes are engineering classes. I have taken up to Calc II and so many other classes. I have even taken Chem II, which is really not part of the nursing requirement in MCC. I also believe that the reason why they changed it to TEAS because MCC doesn't require A&PI as a pre-req but more of a co-req. NLN Entrance exam have a lot of A&P questions. So I think that's the reason of the change of exam. From what I hear from the department, they want to keep the students that is already attending MCC first, so MCC student get first priority along with high school graduate. If you're from another community college, you may find yourself in a little tougher competition against someone who may have a lower gpa than you. That's what I hear so don't quote me on that. I'm still bugging them every now and then to see how they make their decisions.

Hey I really have no need for the manual anymore. I will give it to you. I'm not planning on selling it anyways. My GPA is a 3.13 so don't feel too bad. I'm attending there now majoring as a Biology Pre-Professional. Haven't quite take my AP1 either, but I'm registered to take in the Spring of 2008. From what I hear, they choose students who already attend MCC with he high GPA first, and I guess the TEAS is a baseline for cut offs. So just email me your address and I'll send you the booklet. [email protected] There are similar stuff on the exam, but less hectic than the practice exam in the manual. I also took the online assessment practice test they have on the ATI website. I think I definitely suggest people to take that to get an actual idea of how the real exam is like. Alot of people panice not knowing what's on there, when you take that practice exam you'll see how it's like and you will know what's your weak area and what you really need to concentrate on. My TEAS exam was a paper and pencil one. I guess there's many versions to this exam. I would really suggest having a watch with you, the one with the minute hand.

Hey I have taken the TEAS and passed it with an overall of 88% and a national 95th percentile. Good luck everyone. My school uses it for the ADN program also, and all other health technologies major.

Hey there. I got the manual from the ATI website and study from there. I did ok I guess. I scored an overall of 88% and in the 95th percentile. Really didn't take much time studying for it as I have finals and everything to worry bout but then again, I think I didn good considering I'm in the 95th percentile. I mailed my application out the first day they accepted applications and got my letter back within two or three weeks. If you completed all of the pre-reqs and meet their requirements, they'll send you the application for the TEAS exam. Theres really not much A&P question I only have one out of the whole exam. Study your conversion factors and make sure your math skills are quick cuz they don't give you much time to think through each question. The english is simple high school stuff and the reading also. I have to agree with you on that one, some people may not remember anything from high school at all. I've graduated 10 years ago, and I just tookt he exam this past Sunday and I thought it was a breeze. I'm not sure how each school analyze the score, but from what I was told at my school, it really all depends on what major your applying into. Some major they'll consider certain subjects higher than others. I know that the TEAS exam is basically for all Health Tech students. Science and math is going to be definitely part of the consideration since you need these to prescribe medication and give the right dosage. Best of luck to everyone who still have to take the exam.

I would really suggest to get the book from atitesting.com. Get their study manual and study from it. It would definitely prepare you for the exam and when you think you're ready, take their online assessment test, then you will have some idea of how their exam is like. It's very basic science, math and english questions. I thought it was too easy though. I wouldn't suggest Kaplan then you'll over prepare yourself for it, especially on subjects you really won't need. There's one A&P question, so if you don't know it, it won't hurt you. You do need to know the basic chemistry. So get the manual it would definitely save you alot of trouble and time. I took mine this past Sunday and I really think it was a breeze. Best of luck.

Hey I took mine this past Sunday. I panic about the science part too, but honestly, the science section on the exam itself is very basic. I remember out of the whole science section I had one A&P question with a diagram. The study guide will help prepare you, I think somewhat a little over prepare you. But if you can get everything down in the booklet or even touch base on it, you'll do just fine. The math is my best subject, so I was done with half the time, but they give you like one and half minute per problem so you have to be quick with the calculations. My suggestion would be to study from the manual and take all the practice test that's in there. When you're done, I really suggest you to take the online assessment test. It will really give you an idea of how the exam is and you will know what you really need to prepare for, because if gives you the score after you're done with the exam. Best of luck.

Aww *HUGS*. Girl I have the same problem with my mom. They may technically be your mother, but not all of the things your mother tells you are right. I went through a whole phase with my mom, and currently we are no longer speaking to each other. Mind you she left me when I was a baby, and decide to look for me two years ago. Still then we didn't hit it off with any mother-daughter bond, but despises each other's choices. I have a two year old myself. And what you're doing is not being selfish. You are doing what you want to do in life for yourself, but in return it's not only benefitting you but your family as well. I'm working full time and going to school full time, my mother tells me I'm being selfish too, but I know if I don't try to do something now, I'll be stuck in the position that I'm at for the rest of my life. I want to be financially stable so I can have the money to send my daughter to a school she wants and not have her worry about working while attending school either. Honestly, every mother's point of view about their child is different. Don't worry too much about what others say, sometimes, you just have to ignore what they have to say, especially if they're very negative and not supportive.

Honestly 3rdgen. The only opinion that matter with the choices of your own future is your own. You are the only person who would know deeply in your heart what you want to do and what you are capable of. Friends and family on my part are very pessimistic also. There's also a few who tell me not to do it and just stay at the place I'm at until my daughter goes off to school. Honestly, I make decent living, but I really want to pursue something that I really want to do and would know would set my family on a financial security. My heart is set at helping others, and currently volunteering with delivering foods to the elderly. I know that's where my heart is, so I ignore all the criticism of others, and follow my heart. If you feel in your heart, upon the act of helping others, you smile and feel good inside, nursing is definitely the field for you. Follow your heart to your dream. I was wondering, since there is such a nurse shortage in the U.S., why do schools only accept a small number of students each year? I know there's not enough staff, but why can't they get enough staff. What most of friends were talking about, why can't nurses that require these CEU's teach classes to fulfill them so new and incoming nursing students have the opportunities to get accepted, instead of waiting year after year for an acceptance letter. Just a thought.
