I have not found anything free but most of what I have viewed has been 2-3K. I’m most worried about finding employment if I make the commitment and starting salary of course.

Regardless how our "sister" contracted this virus, my heart breaks for her and her family. I pray for a speedy recovery for her and a quick reunion with her King Charles spaniel. I'm sorry HIPPA is not protecting her privacy better.

Lizblessed..."different approach with training". We are having issues with our training and I am wondering ehat your past approach was and what youre doing now? Is it proving effective?

I work acutes and our FA has 7 hospitals. She is constantly on the road racking up 1000's of miles in a few weeks. She is the best boss I have ever had in 35 years of nursing but I know she wont be around long. The pressure and demands will break her. She lives and breaths dialysis and yes she drank the kool ade. Broke my heart to see her crying because she is just too tired to do anything else.

Smart girl. I work in acutes which is a different beast but from what the girls in chronics tell me its still a beast over there but still abeast.

We have a Fresenius 2008 K machine. After the weekly bleaching we have to rinse it 10-13 times before residual is back to normal. Bio is stumped ... any suggestions or recommendations or a history of the same? How did you resolve it?

Im new to dialysis after 15 years bedside. Just remember this has its own stressors... Being on call couple times a week, small team... may be a catty bunch, docs could be hard to work with, plus there seems to be alot more responsibilty ... things can go wrong real quickly. Talk to the dialysis nurses at your hosp. Visit the chronic unit. Just remember its all relative

NedRN; Thank you so much for your comments. I am hoping to start traveling in January and having this information on TX is extremely helpful. It was on my radar to work there in the future but I will save my time there as tourist only. I had never considered the political red vs. blue climate would be a factor for consideration when choosing an assignment. Thanks for the eye-opener.

Hi, Go to Infusion Nurses Society web page and they often have a list of classes available. Are you looking for PICC certification or peripheral cert. This will be 2 different classes. Alot of hospitals or facilities will offer a "ceritification" class that gives you a couple days of theory and practice that will help you develop your skills and even hear some great secrets and tips from more seasoned nurses. You can also look in the ad section in the back of trade journals (nursing spectrum and Advance to name a couple of freebies) but they often list certification courses. Good luck.

our pharm says you can infuse over 30 mins as well but being an old stone age nurse and having seen the complications from a rapid iron infusion... I know better.... We most always do our outpts by peripheral and have used canula's as small as a 24G and I run it no less than 1 hr. Some of the nurses in our unit fuss at me for being so cautious but I know none of them will be sitting on a court room bench with me if ever sued!!!

You can go to the Infusion Nurses Society site and look for PICC and IV jobs. They also have bi annual classes in PICC insertion training in areas across the country twice a year. Also look at Larger trauma centers for positions on IV teams or in Interventional Radiology for PICC placements. Hope this helps. PS... I love the INS site...

I live in Northern VA and we have a "Walking Store" in the mall. If we tell the clerk we are nurses they give us a HUGE discount on the dansko's. Also when grad time comes around...tell everyone you want gift cards to get some "real" shoes (nothing negative intended to non dansko shoes or wearers)...Also shop around. Nordstrom here sometimes has 50% off sales on dansko's.

If we could use this therapy...I think our frequent flyers would suddenly find another hobby!!!

not sure if you found an answer to your question or not but here goes... you can go to the oncology nurses society site. they have a great book ($75) on chemo and biotherapy administration. it does not promote one drug vs the other. ons and some hosps offer a 2 day class and will certify you after the class and a 50 question open book test. anyone interested, this would be the first choice for me. hope this helps... nitengale:mad:

Glad to hear that the ratios at F O have changed. We had several nurses to transfer over a couple of years back and that was one of the main reasons they left. Don't understand how the hospitals can preach "patient safety" with high ratios!

The best places to learn IV skills is on live peeps. The manequins are a joke. Ask your manager if she can coordinate with a pre-op or ER to give you some time. IV sticks is a practiced and learned art. A class will give you the text book version but you need the real deal to get comfortable. Also ask your co workers if they will let you practice on them. We have had a ton of new grads join us this past summer and all of them are wondering around begging other nurses to allow a stick. I am not that brave but many have been. Good luck!

I too work at Loudoun and we have MANY nurses that travel from Winc VA to here daily. Some that travel even further! I have heard some things about Winc but the overall has not been good. Considering the price of gas it makes you wonder how bad things really are there, that these folks would drive an hour or more every day just for work!

I also work at Loudoun. The opportunities are not as great here as they are at the other Inova Hosps in Fairfax. Check out the careers page for a list of over 400 nursing positions. It will list where its at, what unit, shift and if its full or part time or prn. The salaries are not as good in Loudoun as they are at the other hospitals but they are getting in line. There isn't much competition out this way. IF HCA comes in I look for salaries to increase as an incentive to keep nurses here. Benefits are standard and you can look those up online as well. What shift are you looking at? The ratio's at Loudoun are MUCH better than at other Inova facilities. Fair Oaks and Fairfax on nites can have 8-10 patients while at Inova our worst nite is 7 max! Our usual is 5-6. Just as a head's up... you will be much more marketable if you are tele certified and chemo certified... this will give you a greater choice of offerings. good luck!
