One of our Dr's had a shirt made that said ER where the life you save may someday take your own.

We just used an IO on a code the other night. pt was extremely obese, and it was to difficult to get a central line. The Dr put a IO in a matter of seconds, and poof you now have a line.

If you were to look at a persons antecube under ultrasound, you would really be shooked that more people do not accidently hit the artery when attempting AC sticks. My friend hit the artery one time a few years ago, and I had to laugh the ER Dr ended nup tranducing it to an a line

I work with a lot of guys with facial hair. I do not see a problem as long as it is kept neatly trimmed. I myself have a well trimmed beard. D

I had a Resident write on the chart today for a pt with a humerous fx, No weight bearing rt upper extremity. This was for a young person, so it is not like they used a walker or anything. Just struck my co workers and myself as funny. Lets hear your funny stories. D

On of my classics was I was at a meeting, and one of the administrators actually asked us what we could do to increase patient satisfacion, without spending any money. Give me a break. I left management shortly after that.

I have used a very small amount of tincture of benzoin on the inside of a mask before. I prefer the vicks though.

I had this sweet little old lady in triage one night, and she held up her hand with a dressing on it, and said I want to get this checked. I did just what she said I put a check mark on her hand, and then asked her if there was anything else I could do for her. You should have heard her laugh. Word to the wise though make sure your patient has a sense of humor before trying this.

There was a time that I would have agreed with this statement, but with the way the trend is going with the ER's across the country, and the way many have to hold pt's for extended periods of time I just can't agree with this. Also AACN does not consider the tele trained , nurses Critical Care Nurse's. They have a separate test they can take for certification it is called the PCRN. It stands for Progressive Care RN.

This has always been a pet peeve of mine. I have argued for years that ER Nurses, are Critical Care Nurses also. As someone else has pointed out the AACN considers us Critical Care Nurses, and we can sit for our CCRN being ER Nurses. In my opinion we are just like the other specialty units.

I was just at a seminar a couple of weeks ago, and the person at one of the lectures commented that they are no longer make a heparin from beef, and it is all pork heparin. This triggered something in my mind, and mad me think if this is the case, can you actually give Heparin to someone of the Jewish, of Muslim faith. Since both faiths from what I understand forbid the use of pork. One nurse I used to work with had told me in the past if I ever come in as a patient you have to use the beef based Heparin. The more I have thought about this the more it really bothers me. I want to here your opinions. D

Your right I found someone that works at the Hospital that I work at that makes scrub tops very reasonable in price.

Landau makes some really nice scrubs just for men, but they are a little on the pricey side. Also there is a company that is called Mad About Scrubs, if you are looking for prints. If you go with Mad About Scrubs, be aware their shirts seem to run a little on the small side so order up.

I very rarely have the situation anymore when a female patient will ask for a female nurse. I think once you are in the room with the patient, and you show how you are professional, and caring, you have won the patients respect. On the opposite side, I have many little old ladies make comments to like there needs to be more men in nursing.

One other thing I forgot to add in my last posting was lets think about this what kind of sick demented person would be turned on by a sick or injured person?

Thank you. It is called being professional. Maybe her sons might not be able to control themselves, but that doesn't mean the whole male gender is like them. That is like saying just because a female nurse goes out and has a couple drinks and acts "wild" that she will go out and try to sleep with her patients. I can't see that happening.

I bought one, and other than my pinning ceramony, I have never worn it.

I had a "lady" call in one night, and said she was bending over and her dog jumped on her, and had sex with her. She was worried that she could become pregnant from the dog. It was all I could do to not tell her she should follow up with her vet in the morning.
