Hi! Great choice in Excelsior! I am 45 and just graduated 1 year ago. The fees are paid as you go. There are no hidden fees. It is a little bit more expensive than a brick and morter school, but you know exactly how much it will be right up front. There may be some extra fees as you go along but they are all optional. Such as, practice tests from Excelsior, CPNE workshop (I very much recommend this), and study guides from E-bay. Good luck!! Danna

I never pinch, the pressure coming from above pushing the fluid into the vein will be greater than the pressure you are using. I do flush between incompatible meds just because of the risk that some will stay in the port.

We had a pt. call the ambulance because his water heater was broken.

Okay, I bought the stuff to make a wound. I read that it is about 1.25 inches deep. Is this right? What are the outside demensions? Thanks everyone!!

I too was very nervous about this exam just because of everything I had read. I studied Lisa Arends notes for 2 weeks, took the practice exams and got an A on the real thing. I did not think it was any different or more difficult than the rest of the exams.

I loved them both. Those two study guides are all I used, no books. Personally, I like Lisa Arends the best. These and the EC practice tests are worth every penny.

I did mine last month. I didn't use anything. If you know the basics about NANDA diagnosis you should be fine. It really wasn't difficult.

Hey! Here's my suggestion. Take the first course and all your gen ed before you enroll. Take as many CLEP and DSST as you can for your gen ed. They are a lot easier and a lot cheaper. The part about buying books is up to you. Personally, I bought all the books recommended for the first nursing course through Amazon.com used. The books arrived and I took one look at the 3 foot stack and was so overwhelmed that I put them all away and have never taken them out again. I bought Lisa Arends notes and My Study Group 101 notes off of e-bay. That is all I have used for all the nursing courses. I finished all of them in 4 months. I got a B on two tests (totally my own fault, I just didn't study) and an A on the rest. Definately take the practice tests. They are worth every penny. They are just like the real exams. I bought all of the books EC recommended for my first test. When I received all of them I took one look at the 3 foot pile and panicked. I then went to E-Bay and ordered Study Group 101 and Lisa Arends notes. I never looked at a single book and passed all of my tests, two with a B (totally my own fault for not putting much effort into studying) and the rest with an A. I would definately recommend the EC practice tests. They are worth every penny. I personally like Lisa Arends notes the best. They just seem to be more comprehensive and better organized. That's my own opinion though, they are both good.

Welcome! Mine was also well within the 3 weeks. Do you have any more gen. ed. classes? You can be working on some of those. My advice is to take as many CLEP and DSST as you can. You can also start working on another nursing course to test on as soon as you get accepted. Good luck!

Hi Kristina! I think this is a really good one to start with. It's a relatively easy exam. I studied for probably 2 days for this. It's mostly stuff you've heard about in day to day life. I used a website called instantcert.com for this. It's $20 a month for unlimited access to study questions on lots of the CLEP and DSST exams. Hang in there! :hngon:

i should receive my fcca (booklet?) next week. i really can't find much info about this on ec's website. what is it exactly? how much time should be spent on it? how critical are they when grading? any info would be appreciated!:confused:

hey! anyone know if excelsior accepts any of the following for humanities credits? they don't seem to want to answer e-mails if you ask about more than one test at a time dsst foundations of environment and humanity: race to save the planet intro to modern middle east intro to world religions clep principles of american government introductory u.s. history l: early colonization to 1877 introductory u.s. history ll: 1865 to the present i i just really don't want to take ethics or humanities, they are soooo boring to me :yawn::yawn:

I keep reading about people not microwaving jello at their CPNE. What the heck does that mean? Why would anyone microwave jello? Do you serve it melted? Also, how do you measure ice without melting it? Or do you serve that melted too?:bugeyes::bugeyes:

Thanks for the information. That sounds like a good deal, 6 credits for one test. However, I know literally nothing about art, music, composers, literature, etc. I would rather take something I know a little bit about. Thanks for the offer to mail the CD, that was very thoughtful.

What are some of the courses you have taken to satisfy the humanities requirement for EC? Anybody done any CLEP or DSST (Dantes)? Which ones will EC accept? How hard were they what would you suggest? Thanks!

Hey Georgygirl! DSST is just like CLEP. It started out as DANTES for the military then it changed to DSST when they made it available for everyone. Here is their website http://www.getcollegecredit.com/ Try to take it from someone who offers it computer-based, otherwise you will have to wait 6 weeks for the testing site to receive the paper test. That's so dissappointing. I suggest you take the DSST version. The information is the same, it's only $80 and Excelsior will accept it. Also, you won't have to wait 60 days, you can take it while the info is still fresh in your mind. I took the DSST version (and passed) on Monday, it wasn't too bad. Good Luck! All of the threads I have read only talk about taking Ethics through EC. I was wondering if anyone has taken it through DSST, or if anyone has any thoughts on this.
