  1. Thank you! This form is excellent and full of insight into the lives of the Natives and their needs. Thank you for this information.
  2. I think the article was a little bit over the top. I am Muslim, born in America a African-American and a Nurse and yes I've been Muslim all my life. I will tell you first hand that this is not Islam this is more culture. I know personally people who have been across seas and they incorporate their culture inside the religion of Islam. I think that as human beings we need to first learn what is truth and what is not before we label a religion based on just a few ignorant people. There is 1.6 billion muslims in this world and we are not all bad. This article only describe the negative and it is not that far from being bias. I take great offense to the article because he associated islam with people's ignorance and their cultural practices. I try to treat people regardless of what religion they are with great respect this is what true islam teaches to respect your neighbor even if they are different from you. We need to stick to what is important that is providing care not judging people's religions.
  3. If anyone feels that this post is rude then you shouldn't reply. That is your right as a human being. Med-Surg 36 hours per week 2 years Weekend program day shift Sat and Sun and Mon night all 12hours a day Philadelphia, Pa I bring home after taxes $2130 every 2 weeks
  4. Hi I'm a muslim and a nurse. When it comes to things that will save your life it really doesn't matter what the product is made of. In the religion of Al-Islam we know that life preservation is important. Most muslim would not make a big deal out of that.

The hospital where I work don't require a signature for insulin and for heparin a signature is only required if it's a drip to verify if the dosage is correct and you only need to signatures for the first set up there after you don't need two signatures unless you change the dose again.
  6. Don't feel bad I was fired before and it devastated me I was fresh out of school I made a mistake I forget to do this patient sliding scale and I panic because I was new I told the supervisor and she told me that it was okay but that week the DON called me in when I arrived she handed me my walking papers I was so angry, sad and I felt that I didn't no what I was doing I was only a nurse for 3 months at the time. It's been 2 years and I look back on that and thank the lord that it had happen because I went back into the hospital where I worked out of school and gain some of the best experience I can see how much I have matured as a nurse since then so take this as a learning experience and reflex on it and move on to something better and believe that the lord doesn't but a burden on you more than you can bare.
  7. Hi I've read most of the post and I'm here to say that I am black woman, I'm also muslim and have been all my life. I have never heard none of these stero-types in my cultral as a black person. But as a muslim in the religion of Al-Islam we do not look people in the eye mainly men because of protecting your modesty so yes it's part of the religion. I read those very same things in the nursing textbook when I was in nursing school the instructor made actually read it to the class when we were learning how to respect different culture majority of my class were black we all laughed when we read this. I was really bother over the being late part only because I take being on time very seriously I almost always on time everywhere I go and most I'm extremely early the person who wrote this in the nursing textbook obviously don't know any black people.
  8. I've been a nurse for over a year and my last year I worked for a LTC and I forgot to take this woman accu-check and when I caught it I told the supervisor. She said that everything was okay but when I came back to work the DON ask me to come into the office and fired me over that. I thought that was the stupidist thing that I ever heard. I was angry and felt that it was uncalled for I wasn't even on the job for 2 weeks. I told her that everyone make mistakes and she told me in the world of nursing we are not allow to make mistakes and I told that is an unrealistic view and I don't agree she was very angry I also told I didn't want to be apart of a facility that didn't help new graduates grow as a nurse. Most of the nurse that I worked with were very upset with what happened one of the nurses that I was in orientation with quit the week after me. Now I understand the importantance of covering yourself.
  9. I failed my boards the first time and it wasn't because I of my competency as a nurse I suffer from bad test anxiety to the point where I thought that I would pass out. I took the Kaplan course for test taking skills and confidence. I had to wait 45 days to retake. I pass the second time my manager offered me a job as a Nurse tech but I turned it down. I feel that as Nurses we need to be more sympathetic towards our follow nurses. We all need someone to understand how we feel and who could understand us more than our fellow nurses. Please !
  10. I work in philadelphia pennsylvania and our base rate is $26 and 2.33 for shift diff from 3-11 and 4.66 shift diff from 11-7 I work part-time 7pm-7am. The pay is good compared to most places.
  11. starcandy don't feel bad I have made med errors so your not alone. It do feel bad I know when it happened to me all I could do is cry and I thought I was the worse nurse ever but now I can laugh about and know that you learn from every mistake that you make. It helps to be a better stronger nurse. Just know you did the right thing.
  12. We have a NA on our floor that likes to intimidate the us new nurses. She was out on leave for a long time and when she came back all the nurses at night were new. She felt the need to have a meeting with us an lay down the so called laws. I being the person that I am laugh the whole time. When I first started a year ago as a new nurse I was very passive now a year latter I'm much more assertive times have changed. She one day tried to confront me about the assignment but I clearly looked her in the face an kindly told her in so many word that I'm not the one and she do not want to get on my bad side. I left that at that and from then on we have had a good relationship I hold no grudges after I speak my peace. So you don't have to be nasty to get your point across but some things need to be nip in the bud and I'm a very happy person and I will not tolerate no one to ruin my happy moments.
  13. That is so sad that you have to experience nurse bad behavior. I understand what you are talking me and my classmates were treated the same way when we were at clinical. I've been a nurse for a little over a year and when I graduated that was one of my concerns. I wanted to work in and environment where the nurse was friendly to their co-workers. We complain about staffing and other things that need to be address but I love working with my co-worker and would do anything for them and they will do the same for me and anyone else. I work on a Med-Surg floor and that's one of the reasons why I'm still there is because of my work environment. I work at night I would love to go work in ICU but I don't know how the atmosphere is. It's sad when you are afraid to move on because of nurses with bad attitudes. I feel bless that the lord gave me the oppurtunity to be a nurse. No matter what happens don't let those people make you sour because sometimes those bad vibes can be contagious. Remember the big picture the patients depend and trust you with their lives that's most important.
  14. I did kaplan the second time I took nclex I felt that it helped me with test taking strategy also you need to already know nursing content. It really is helpful.
  15. I understand how you feel I failed on my first time and I cried for one day . I got up the second day and said to myself that I will pass the second time and I look at what I may have done wrong the first time and I started a new strategy. I took and kaplan course the second time to boost up my confidence. I understand how you feel I took my test the second time with much confidence and pass so grieve then get back up and do it again and always know that as long as you keep trying you will be a nurse and know that we all are here for you to vent and for encouragement. :)
