  1. Thanks for your response. I have read the recommendations from CDC as well and have an appointment with my hospital's infection control dept for clarification. I just want to make sure that my coworkers and I are doing everything that we should to protect ourselves and our patients. It seems to me that so far many people are still not taking this as serious as I think they should. Again, thanks for your response.
  2. I did a search but was not able to find a post with this information in it. I am a new nurse and just started working at a small community hospital in the ER. So far I have been surprised by the volume of pts that we see. I would like to get an idea of what is being done or not done in other places regarding the H1N1 flu. I have not seen a whole lot of concern from coworkers regarding wearing PPE. I am aware that in most cases it is still mild but, I am concerned for later in the fall when it may become more severe. I am wondering what your facilities are recommending for suspected flu cases and/or confirmed Flu A positive? What PPE are you wearing? Do you have clear guidelines to follow or is it left to your disgression? When do you decide to wear it? Are pts being seperated for flu symptoms vs. other problems? I have been reading on allnurses for quite some time and appreciate all of the insight and information posted. Thanks in advance for your input.
  3. I am taking the 4 day live Hurst review. I have not learned anything new but, they do put it in simple terms for you. Tomorrow is the last day and they are going to go over questions with us and give us rationales. Also a CD is included to study at home. Very expensive. I'm not sure that I would choose to take it again. If you are unsure of some of your content then it is a great review.
  4. I have applied at 4 different locations for different jobs. I have only had one interview and should hear something tomorrow or Friday. It is not a hospital in the bham area though. I was surprised that it has been this hard with the "shortage". I guess it could be the economy... I think we may have a better chance after we have passed NCLEX too. Good luck to you both. We'll get one eventually....
  5. Thanks for all the great input. I graduate in May and was wondering if anyone has any updates on hiring new RN's in AL. What does the job outlook look like the May grads in your area?? Any input is appreciated. Thanks!
  6. I have found that most passing students usually make B's on tests. There are some that make that occasional A and some that make consistent A's but the vast majority of us make B's. I am happy with all of my B's even if I thought I studied hard enough to make an A.
  7. It does seem overwhelming at first and it is always hard to tell what or how to study until after the first test. I will graduate in May 09 and have been successful with reading the related material in the book, powerpoints, and taking notes in class. To me the class time is often the most important because as the instructors lecture they will emphasize what is most important to them. Remember that nursing school is different in the instructors are there to direct our studies but it is our resonsibility to learn the material. I have found that every instructor is more than willing to clarify the topics if you ask them. What topics are on your first tests?
  8. Hi Niki! I attend at the Childersburg campus but have some clinicals in Alex City. I am from Rockford. Good luck with your application, I remember how hard it was to wait for the letters. I hope that you get in on the first try. Time flies when you are in nursing school and many things are left undone around the house (at least for me). I start back Wed and have been trying to get my house in order and cleaned and anything else I can think of to do before school starts that will make my life easier during the semester. I took my prereqs at a different school (WCCS) except for Micro which I am taking this summer with my nursing class. I do have the book I used for PSY200 at WCCS which I purchased used. I am not sure if it is the same one that you will need. CACC books - I have the Fundamentals & Health Assessment which were new when I purchased them online and have the CD's that go with them. I also have one of the optional fundamentals books and a book I bought on my own for Fluid & Electrolyes which helped last semester in 105. The fundamentals CD helped with F&E also. Email me if you are interested in any of them. Many of the books are needed throughout the program and I have purchased others on my own to help with assignments. Sorry this was so long! Again good luck with your application. Amy
  9. Thanks for the response. I did get accepted last fall and will be starting the second year this summer and should graduate in May 09. Good luck to you, I hope all goes well with your prereqs. Have you applied for the nursing program yet?
  10. Hi Sandi! I am in your class! I am not sure if we have met yet since there are so many students in the class. Good luck next week on your 1st clinical. Mine don't start until Sept 29th. I found this website over the summer and it has a lot of great information. You are the first current CACC student that I have seen on here. See you in class!
  11. Thanks for all of the info. I dont know when our orientation will be but, classes start 8/15. I can hardly wait! Good luck to all of you!
  12. Hi all! I was just wondering if anyone is attending Central Alabama CC or waiting to hear from them? I have applied for the term that starts Aug 15th but have not gotten my letter yet. The school said I have all the required paperwork and will hear something by mid-July. Would love to hear from other students or graduates! Amy
