  1. Wound care, IM injections, patient and family education, and discharge teaching. I love to educate patients and talk to them about their disease process, life, and current events, lol. Unfortunately at times due to our hectic shift, we nurses don't have enough time to it. ☺
  2. Yaaay! I'm a June 1st start also. I know the feeling. I feel nervous and excited too.
  3. That's awesome featherzRN!! You are definitely a legend around here for completing the program in that record's time ! I would be ectastic to complete it in 9 months!
  4. Yes they do. They accepted my DSST Lifespan Development course I took way back in 2008. ?
  5. I'm right behind you guys, June 1st start date ! So excited and nervous. I agree with featherzRN, join the RN to BSN group on Facebook they are awesome. I've been a member since Jan. (a silent lurker) and they are very helpful and welcoming of new students like us. They're like a little family and they have answers and suggestions to just about any question you have about the program and the courses. The only thing is reading the topics or post is like reading a foreign language at times because they refer to the courses in their abbreviations...then I'm totally lost, lol!
  6. Thanks for the info TheCommuter, RN!! I will check it out. My problem also is math retention. I just took Stats this past fall and forgot 80% of the info already! If I don't use it, I'll lose it...thank God I got an A. Hopefully you will get your May 1st start!
  7. Thanks for the heads up CNRN_Cali! I will make an appt with my doctor asap to have that info signed off as well. Its good to see a few of us Cali nurses starting around the same time! :)
  8. Hey Cali nurses! I'm hopefully starting the program June 1st (I'm from Northern Cal).Transcripts are in, just dreading the readiness assessment, I have math phobia!
  9. Great post and unfortunately it's true. I've been a nurse for a total of 14 years as an LVN and recently an RN. I've seen the changes in nursing. Nursing is definitely a noble profession and I love it. I just can't imagine doing anything else. I love patient care, providing teaching, actually evaluating outcomes, interacting with my patients and their families, and most importantly active listening. I hate for my patients to feel or sense that they are taking too much of my time, but the reality is that nurses are in and out of the rooms because they are so busy! Nursing shouldn't be as if your patients are on an assembly line. I've worked in LTC for many years and it's just as demanding as your ERs, ICUs, CCUs, Med/Surgs, etc. That's why I now work in home health and hospice nursing because I feel that I can provide that quality, safe, and one-on-one care that my patient need...just my preference. The pay isn't the optimal hospital pay, but hey I didn't become a nurse for the pay. The highlight of my day is the appreciation, thank you, or a hug I receive from a patient or family member. I congratulate all of the good nurses out there. Be proud, you are doing a great job!
  10. Good luck to you! You will do fine. I'm from Cali, my name and license number appeared on the BRN website 2 days after my exam. Actual license in mail 10 days later, RN certificate in mail 18 days later. :) Congrats also for landing a job in CA...awesome! :)
  11. Yes. I took the NCLEX with the earplugs and it was VERY helpful.
  12. Well, I believe in the PVT also. Considering I'm from Cali which doesn't participate in the quick results, it was a no brainer. But there's nothing like that confirmation of seeing your name and license number on the BRN website.
  13. Good luck to you! I felt the same way and I'm sure most of us that took the exam felt the same way. You feel that you're never prepared, not enough info was reviewed, etc. Just take your time to read each question carefully. You already know the information from nursing school. You will be just fine.
  14. I reviewed lab values and EKG strips. I know everyone recommend not doing anything, but it would've drove me crazy!
  15. Congrats!! Job well done
  16. Good luck to you guys! Stay positive and focused. You will conquer the NCLEX this time! :)
  17. Congrats RN! May God continue to bless you :)
  18. Congrats!! Good luck to us both with the job search, I'm from Cali too :)
  19. I'm from Cali by the way...
  20. I took the NCLEX on the 9th of this month and my name was on the BRN on the 11th. I did not receive my pass letter in the mail or actual license yet. :)
  21. If your Kaplan scores were in the 60's, you should be fine. Kaplan is very similar to NCLEX from the style of questions up to the actual appearance of the computer screen. Just keep practicing questions and analyze the questions as to what are they asking for and the rationales. Also practice SATA questions. For my NCLEX, the content was basic nursing, things we have learned in our nursing program. Also, relax...I know easier said than done right. Good luck to you and keep us posted, you can do it!
