Am i doing something wrong?? Plaese Help
GIRL, IT TOOK ME 3YEARS TO FINALLY FINISH MY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE LVN PROGRAM, I ALSO TOOK MY BASICS FOR MY RN, ANYWAYS I TOOK LONG BECAUSE I WANTED TO SPEND TIME WITH MY SON N GO TO SCHOOL AT THE SAME TIME. I KNOW ITS HARD TO DO BOTH THINGS AT THE SAME TIME BUT REMEBER YOU ARE DOING THIS FOR THE BEST OF YOUR FAMILY, AND IF IT TAKES LONGER THAN EXPECTED THATS OK TAKE YOUR TIME AND MAKE YOUR FAMILY PROUD. I WAS 16 YEARS OLD WHEN I GOT MARRIED N HAD MY SON. I HAD NOT FINISHED HIGH SCHOOL YET, EVERYONE WOULD TELL ME THAT I WOULD NEVER MAKE ANYTHING OUT OF MYSELF CAUSE I GOT MARRIED YOUNG. WELL LET ME TELL YOU I FINISHED HIGH SCHOOL MY SOPHMORE YEAR, GO A SCHOLARSHIP, WENT TO COLLEGE FINISH MY REQUIRMENTS FOR BOTH LVN N RN AND GOT ACCEPTED IN THE LVN AND FINALLY FINISHED. THERE ARE SOOOOO MANY PEOPLE THAT WOULD TRY TO DISCOURAGE ME ALONG THE WAY BUT I JUST HELD MY HEAD UP N DID IT 4 MY SON. I HAVE A WONDERFUL HUSBAND THAT SUPPORTED ME ALL THE WAY. THE REASON WHY I WENT TO COLLEGE WAS BECAUSE I WANTED TO HAVE A BACKUP PLAN IN CASE MY HUSBAND COULDN'T WORK OR, GOD FORBID, SOMETHING HAPPENS. YOU ALWAYS GOT TO HAVE A PLAN B, N THERES NOTHING WRONG WITH YOU THINKING THAT WAY. SOOO GO 4 IT, N DON'T LET ANYONE ELSE TELL U OTHERWISE.

Home Health Care...
i know what u mean being sent to an uncomfortable/unsafe enviorment. i have been there before n it feels uncomfortable. you do however learn alot w/ this kids. i have learned sooo much from doing private duty to doing pedi. visits. i have had pts that require alot more care than others. but you get your experiance with iv therapy, trachs,g-tubes, tpns, ports, central lines, and etc. if you request to get those kinda pts. i do admitt that i have gotten kinda boring w/ the low skill pts. but you do learn. i tried adult home health visits n the paper wk drove me crazy. working for pedi home health you get to put the hours how you can. example you have a dr's appt. on monday, you can work more hrs durin the week or work on the weekend, depending on when medicaid week starts. soooo i think i will b stayin w/ pedi's for a long while.

lpn orientation
My orientation was about 1 1/2 weeks. The orientation was good but you still have alot to learn on you're own, thats where I think you get your best experiance.

Home Health In McAllen
Did you have a low skill pt. or high skill pt? I know what you mean loosing your skills cause i felt like that w/ one of the pt's i had so i asked for a high skil pt. So for me, i feel i get all the skills that i want, from IV therapy to wound care, injections, G-Tube, trach, etc. Plus I do alot of visits for the agency too. But maybe its not for you. N ya I have several Friends that work for palm valley in Mcallen.

You know you are a PEDS nurse when...
- you catch yourself sing baby/kid songs while driving or cooking.:Melody: - you find yourself talking baby talk to your 9 year old. - you wear no jewelry because a 3 year old attempted to yank them off. - your stethoscope is to lil when assessing an adult. - you have stickers on your name tag. - you find slobber/milk stains on your uniforms.:barf01:

Is this upsetting to anyone else?
After watching this video I said to myself " this mom might never know how to live a normal life again". Having a child with severe disabilities turns your life around completly. You have to worry who will take care of the child at night when the nurse isn't able to go, or what to do when something happens, I hope not, but there are sooo many things she probably has not thought of. It is very difficult to take care of a child with such disabilities when you don't have people to help you. Many of these parents depend on the home nurse and find themselves stressed when left alone. I don't know what to say about this but I guess in some odd way everything has a purpose.

What nursing shortage?
I have to agree as well. When I graduated from nursing school there were so many agencies, hospitals, nursing homes, etc. offering us jobs. So i guess i just depends on where your located.:)

Meds...Where to Start
I Know What You Are Going Through. I Bought A Small Spirl Notebook, I Don't Remeber The Exact Title, I Know It Had "pharmacology" On It . This Notebook Was So Cool, It Kinda Looks Like A Kid Book. It Has All These Funny Pics. About Drugs, It's Classifications And Side Effects. This Helped Me Alot. Oh, I Bought It @ Barnes & Noble.
