++Should I transfer from La Guardia Community College!?!?
The short version of this is thst there are benefits to easch route; however, with 30 + years of experience as a nurse and working with nursing students over the past 10 years, i would suggest you consider the following: going the shorter route allows you to determine if it is a good fit for you before additional investment of time and money; going longer raises the possibility that life situations can interrupt your plans. Starting school does not equal finishing school. there are plenty of statistics about drop-out rates and even though everyone wants to believe that they will finish, the reality is that not everyone does. therefore,I would think that the shorter program is the safer strategy and allows you to take a step-wise approach.

LPN Programs in New York City?
NYS Department of Education Office of the Professions has a complete list. Go to the website homepage and on the left in the menu it has LPN prgrams or RN programs and the list comes up throughout the state. Generally the vocational programs (NYC DOE, VEEB, BOES) use entrance tests that are other than NLN. Good luck!

Ny lpn school loan info
Hi I can think of 2 things before seeking out loans: snya has NYS funding and you may be eligible. It's not a loan program so there is no payback and no "strings attached". It is state funding awarded to an association . Also you may qualify for an "ITG" (Individalal training grant) through a NYC program called workforce one . The health sector including career counseling, resume and interview prep as well as assistance with job placement. Either one would probably be enough to cover your costs. SNYA has info on their website at www.snya.org. I would have to get the info on workforce one tomorrow and post it.Hope it works out!

VEEB LPN Program (info request)
The particulars of the SNYA work commitment was from different programs from previous grants. As grant awards change, and employment situations change, programs adjust too. At least there is still funding available to hlp with the costs. Glad to hear you met someone going to school to give some tips. That's a great help too. SNYA meetings in the past had LPNs as guest speakers who shared their views on school, license exam preparation, and adjusting to working at their first jobs. The ones who came back to speak said they were happy to help and had gotten help from other students before them and they wanted to help new students in return. Getting the advice plus the funding can really help. Anyone know any Westchester residents going to LPN school? There are still opportunties for sponsorship for residents living in that area.

Studying Regimen
Creating a specific prep plan focuses efforts. That's why I like NCSBN program because it has a focus. so it becomes guided effort instead of random effort. Also, attitude and anxiety play a big part. i have had students who came into our NCLEX practice session with great school success but had 2 things that needed to be changed before we could begin our program and these things were attitude and stress management. That's why i'm looking for a short, practical workshop for my students on these issues. I find that unless students can control anxiety during the test, they tend to do a couple self-defeating things such as say to themselves "I just want to get this over with." ( the kiss of death because then they forget or reject the use of the question analysis techniques we taught them) or just decide ( against our instructions) to just pick an answer that "looks" or "feels right/ familiar-( also techniques we advise against). Belief and confidence are the two components I would suggest students specifically add to their prep as well as the question bank practice and study rationales of questions gotten wrong during practice. Hope this helps.

Did anyone Get accepted to Brooklyn Adult learning Center for FALL 2008?Mid Manhattan
One of my students in a pre-nursing program got into the NYC program and will start in September. Generally there are approx. 5000 who take the test. I can imagine how frustrating it is to miss by a few points. Any thoughts about going over to New Jersey? I heard of a few students who are in the same situation you are in and passed a different test in NJ. Otherwise, with some more study you can always reapply and try again in January.

Looking for CNA, LPN + RN Schools in NY
Right now there are 12 LPN schools in NY. Check out the website listing them all at office of the professions ny education department. There is the NYC Department of ed. they've already tested and selected for this year and reopen admission at the end of the year. Likewise for most of the other schools. Check the website I mentioned and call the schools to find out when applications are due. there are the Cuny programs- there may be time to apply to them for September and there is always NJ. Some schools there start quarterly. Check out Lincoln Tech and Merit Tech. Lots of pople go from NYC to these schools in jersey if they can work out the travel.Best of luck!

Studying Regimen
My experience and reading suggests a rigorous schedule of 100 questions per day ( doing questions with reading rationales is supposed to be a better use of time than straight reading). My students tell me that 100 questions per day is a whole day affair and no one in my experience has accomplished this goal but in trying to do so they have done many more questions than they would have done otherwise. The more questions done, the more prep and the greater the likelihood of success. Hope this helps!

I know this is a common issue
So far the best success I have found is with psych k workshop but they are hard to find. I am trying to find them in NY. I know they are world-wide but haven't used them in a year so don't know if they are still in operation. Otherwise, i would suggest taking some kind of workshop where you participate and the instructor has activities for you to do to address this challenge. My experience has been that reading books is a great start to raise your awareness but without activities it is just the first step. Good luck!

Don't just do Kaplan questions. Read the book and learn how to do the method. It is great help to complement what you are already doing.

FEAR of FAILING NCLEX-PN AGAIN for the 3rd time

Please HELP I really need Advice!!!!!!!!!
Beliefs and confidence building are essential. Anxiety and panic block your ability to think clearly and critically. Obviously there can be an effect on NCLEX. I have asked if anyone has heard of any workshops for this. I 've used it in the past and it helped. Check it out in your area. Do a google search and see what comes up in your area but check out the credentials before getting involved- I always check out the background of anyone providing any service. Reading books can be helpful too but in your case, I think doing something interactive with a coach, mentor, instructor, etc will be the most efficient way to get this accomplished quickly , easily and effectively. Also, repeat test-takers might do best working with someone who specializes in this. In my group, we have a special program for repeat test takers . We don't have many and they are only the people who did did not attend the required NCLEX classes we provide under a grant, but we work with them in a different way by first addressing what they believed, thought, and did, and then correcting those perceptions and rebuilding a sound foundation afterward. As I mentioned in another thread, we have a 100% success rate when people follow our guidelines. Best wishes.
