  1. The short version of this is thst there are benefits to easch route; however, with 30 + years of experience as a nurse and working with nursing students over the past 10 years, i would suggest you consider the following: going the shorter route allows you to determine if it is a good fit for you before additional investment of time and money; going longer raises the possibility that life situations can interrupt your plans. Starting school does not equal finishing school. there are plenty of statistics about drop-out rates and even though everyone wants to believe that they will finish, the reality is that not everyone does. therefore,I would think that the shorter program is the safer strategy and allows you to take a step-wise approach.
  2. NYS Department of Education Office of the Professions has a complete list. Go to the website homepage and on the left in the menu it has LPN prgrams or RN programs and the list comes up throughout the state. Generally the vocational programs (NYC DOE, VEEB, BOES) use entrance tests that are other than NLN. Good luck!
  3. Hi I can think of 2 things before seeking out loans: snya has NYS funding and you may be eligible. It's not a loan program so there is no payback and no "strings attached". It is state funding awarded to an association . Also you may qualify for an "ITG" (Individalal training grant) through a NYC program called workforce one . The health sector including career counseling, resume and interview prep as well as assistance with job placement. Either one would probably be enough to cover your costs. SNYA has info on their website at www.snya.org. I would have to get the info on workforce one tomorrow and post it.Hope it works out!
  4. Funding may be available if you qualify thru SNYA workforce grant . website is www.snya.org
  5. The particulars of the SNYA work commitment was from different programs from previous grants. As grant awards change, and employment situations change, programs adjust too. At least there is still funding available to hlp with the costs. Glad to hear you met someone going to school to give some tips. That's a great help too. SNYA meetings in the past had LPNs as guest speakers who shared their views on school, license exam preparation, and adjusting to working at their first jobs. The ones who came back to speak said they were happy to help and had gotten help from other students before them and they wanted to help new students in return. Getting the advice plus the funding can really help. Anyone know any Westchester residents going to LPN school? There are still opportunties for sponsorship for residents living in that area.
  6. SNYA has begun sponsoring LPN students with many already receiving sponsorship acceptance emails.
  7. For LPNs in NY, SNYA has been awarded from the NYS DOH HWRI for LPN funding. The website is www.snya.org
  8. SNYA funding is available for those who qualify and are enrolled in the LPN program. Their website has the info at http://www.snya.org
  9. For LaGuardia students who are taking NCLEX, paying Pearson Vue for the NCLEX test and taking a prep course and are interested in finding a funding source to help pay for these LPN educational expenses, maybe interested in what Southern New York Association (SNYA) has to offer. Check out their website at www.snya.org
  10. SNYA is "legit" They have a website at www.snya.org There are nursing facilities in all boros of NYC, in LI, and in Westchester County...all in all approx 16,000 patients. They have been working with nursing students since 2003.
  11. SNYA grant could help pay. They were awarded funding for 2010-2011 for those who qualify. They have sponsored SW BOCES students in the past and can do so again...for NYC, LI and Westchester residents. The info is online at www.snya.org
  12. If you want to find out about a funding source to pay for school, check out SNYA at www.snya.org
  13. If you got accepted and are interested in finding out about funding to help pay for school SNYA was awarded funding from NYS DOH for the Health Worker Retraining Iniative and has sponsored students in the past. Their site is www.snya.org and they have been holding information sessions and accepting applications.
  14. SNYA was awarded funding for 2010-2011 under a grant from the NYS DOH, Health Worker Retraining Iniative. It is similar to what the others have said but new and different and they are holding information sessions now. Some people have already applied and it is "first come- first served. " They have a webste at www.snya.org. '
  15. Best wishes. If you are accepted to LPN school, live in NYC, LI, or Westchester, you may be able to apply for funding sponsorship with SNYA, awarded funded for 2010-2011 for LPN education and employment under a grant from NYS DOH.
