A man comes into the ER and yells, "My wife's going to have her baby in the cab!" I grabbed my stuff, rushed out to the cab, lifted the lady's dress, and began to take off her underwear. Suddenly I noticed that there were several cabs - and I was in ...
I stood in line for 3 hours and 20 minutes to get a shot about 3 weeks ago. Now a public health nurse I go to church with says that they got a new shipment of 2000 doses. Now you can just walk in and get a shot if you meet the criteria.
When I took the class while employed with the hospital, I got paid for taking the class. The last time I recertified, I was working per diem and did not get paid. But I was able to get my materials for the class at the employee price.
I keep my ACLS up to date voluntarily where I work, but I have applied to hospitals where I was told that it was required w/i six months of employment if you did not have it. This was for med surg and step down ICU positions.
Well if you are unhappy now, you have very little to lose by changing jobs. You can try something else and maybe be unhappy or stay where you are and be guaranteed to be unhappy. Good luck.
I had cervical disc surgery a few months ago and I truely feel your pain. I think that same day surgery probably involves pushing stretchers a lot. That activity may be ok for you, but it is difficult for me. I was going to suggest something alon...
I interviewed for positions when I was 5 months pregnant with my son and I was showing. Went to the interview in a maternity outfit. The interviewer didn't seem put off at all by my pregnancy. I think they will think more long term in their hiring...
I would fall into the "having escaped school" category. Graduated in 1989 (BSN). I work step down ICU and have for my entire career. I have worked full time, weekender and now just plain old part-time. Probably will make a change in the next cou...
Where I work we had a case manager quit and go to another hospital as a nurse manager and she was calling us at work to see if we wanted to work for her. I thought this was really poor judgement.

Several years ago I had a miscarriage. During my grieving a friend told me that any good that came out of such a heart breaking event would come from the special sort of empathy that I would have for someone else going through a similar situation. ...
IF you had a choice I would tell you to go for the RN. But if you must return to work in a year then you do what you need to do and go for the LPN. The experience as an LPN will be very helpful and provide a lot of good experience on the road to be...

4 weeks. Noney is right, sometimes you just know it isn't right and trying to make it fit when it doesn't just will not work. I am usually a "hang in there" kind of person, but sometimes you just gotta cut your losses.
Don't worry about it, I understand. I am in Memphis right on the state border of Mississippi and Arkansas both. I have already checked out those state forums myself.
Awww Gee Whiz, I can't even imagine ever facing my father or father-in-law after they watched me deliver a baby. Just gives me the creeps to think about it.
I personally believe that this is a very private time. I never even considered the idea of anybody being in the delivery room with me when I had my children, except my husband. My motto is if you were not there at conception you are not invited to ...
Wow the western end of the state seems to be well represented as I am in Memphis also. This forum is going to be lots of fun. I was just wondering where the students in Memphis are planning to go to work when they graduate.
Well, I think these state forums are a great idea. I am a native of Tennessee. And I look forward to discussing nursing issues with folks close to home.
A nursing unit is like a small town with lots of relationships of varing degrees. I usually contribute when I have a personal connection with the individual that is getting married, moving on etc. And I don't contribute when I didn't really know or...
Much the same thing happened to me at church. Went to Wednesday night service and during the "greeting time" the man in front of me noticed my jacket with the name of the hospital I work for on the front of it. Told me that I needed to come work fo...
I would just tell them the truth, that I was ill for a period of time, but am much better now and looking for new opportunities. Reason for leaving last job--illness that is now resolved.
