  1. If thats the worst you've done, your doing ok. Most jobs you can forget to tighten a bolt or something, but in nursing a mistake can cause a life, so messing up a gi test is nothing. Own up to it and put it behind you.
  2. our LTC facility uses a wound care lvn 8-5 m-f. she makes $25hr in fort worth
  3. harris methodist fort worth is good. LVN's in Fort Worth start around $20-22hr. Cost of living not to bad. $90-120k will get you an average home.
  4. I agree, he'll come around. If not it's his own care that he is holding out on. DOCUMENT daily on this pt and inform your charge of the issues.
  5. I do think she needs the experience, BUT if I had the resources and the support to get as much education as I wanted, YES I'd do it! MagsMom is right go for it.
  6. VA is much better long term, pay sucks at first, but will build up. you might consider asking the private office to pay for school, stay for a few years then apply with the VA as an RN.
  7. school is nothing compaired to actual nursing. granted you need it, but she will find her real education will come from her piers on the job and CRAZY unexpected situations you encounter on the job. best of luck
  8. Very common in LTC. No harm to the pt so I think you'll be ok. I agree, you have no idea who is on the phone, cant discuss facility business. Its not possable to do the job correctly with the given patient loads. Once I thought I gave my pt's meds twice, soma, narco, ambien, and something else. Shortly after I walked up to the pt's door and herd her say to the aid, "my legs are tingleing" I almost FELL OUT!!. Went back to the MAR and rechecked only to find that I han not made an error, researched a bit and found this to be typical for this pt. BUT we have ALL made errors. Next meeting the DON will gripe a bit, but thats usally all.
  9. you can defer 2-3 years with no problem. contact your loan company
  10. I have no problem being an $$$. I dont have time to explaine why I dont have time. Never say anything you cant justify and you always have a leg to stand on. Management will always be an issue, but they probly wont fire you for being rude when necessary. You know nursing, we always take #### from someone DAILY.
  11. Ya, you count on the system. Things like they spend ALOT of money doing steroid stings, ***, why?! I dont care about what people want to do to there own bodies. And lets not forget the rest of the drugs that the Gov spends billions on for the war on drugs. If the gov controled it there wouldent be problems with dealers, or terorist's profiting. These prople are doing the drugs ANYWAY. We have people busted for pot in prision cells with rapest. Not right. Im not a user myself, but I DO support the human right to be one if I so choose, and to protect myself and my property. That being said, maby you should drag these punks over to your house, kick in your window, and put a few bullits in there carcus'. (got a bit ralled up there)
  12. sounds like these boys need a good ol ass whoppen. never count on the law after all, they just show up post crime. really dosent make anyone safe to show up after you've been victomized.
  13. If you can, get 2 yrs in med surg first. You wont regret it.
  14. I come from LTC as well. I just accepted a position as health srvs directior at an assisted living. Sounds exactly the same as yours. Really looking foward to it. I'm tired of runninng to the end of the hall because I can hear my trac pt choking and the administrators wont move him to the front of the hall where I might be able to keep up with him. I pass meds to 30 pts and do IVs and wounds and on and on. So yes, Im TOTALLY looking foward to the new job!.
  15. I have to state the obivous here. Your guns werent locked up?!!! ***. Usally I'd have some advise here, but you have to expect that these kinds of things will happen when you own DEADLY WEAPONS. Now Im all for owning guns, but my own common sence tells me that if my home is broken into I want to make sure my guns cant be taken. Did they have trigger locks or were they in a gun safe?. Dont mean to bust your chops here, I relize your going thru some bad stuff, so I'm sorry if this sounds harsh.
