RN working for Federal Government
Thank you for the information. Do you mind me asking your age when you retired from IHS and did you start receiving your pension right away .. is the pension payable for life? And did you get to keep your health insurance? Thanks again

How do you like case management nursing?
Can you share a little more detail in what your day, case load, or job is like? I received a job offer for work at home casemanagement/some field work, with Medicaid patients. was told some may be homeless, on drugs and I'm not sure how that works. Do I visit them in hospital? ER? Home? and will my performance suffer if I can't get them to get their PAP, Colo, etc?

RN-Pop. Health Federal Government VS. Work from home Case management/insurance co.
Hello all, I'm in a pickle. I currently have 4 1/2 years with federal government and have been offered a case management position - work from home (field work) with insurance company. My dilemma is I drive 45 miles to work one way now (lot of driving-bad weather), plus, government has many rules/regulations, strict policy, (some lack common sense) which restrict my ability to take care of every day life stuff at times. The leadership is clicky, disrespectful, and uncaring (in-supportive) I would love to work from home to have more flexibility with my time when needed for appt's etc. The CM position pays $5000 more annually, sign on bonus plus annual bonuses based on performance. The CM position is a contracted position with a state managed care insurance company that will expire in 5yrs... may be renewed if performance meets standards. So.. no guarantee of job after that (although insurance co. ensured they place their employees in other positions if this happens). Plus I hear the work/home CM positions actually require more than 8 hrs day/ 40hrs week to get everything done... Any advise out there for me. BTW, I am 52yrs old, hope to retire in 8 - 10 yrs so federal may be the one to keep. .

RN working for Federal Government
Thank you for your advise I've thought long and hard about this. I am 52yr old and retirement isn't far off. If I stay with Government I will be able to get pension. But, life is short and all the time I spend on the road, working 40hrs wk away from home is not that appealing to me. If I work from home I understand I will have "some" flexibility so going to appointments, or taking grandkids to school, or picking up a gallon of milk etc. will be much easier.

RN working for Federal Government
I need some help from my nursing buddies. I am an RN, population Health, working for Federal Government and was offered a Case Management position with a major insurance company starting at $5000 more a year, work from home, with some field work. My federal job is 45 minutes from home so I drive quite a bit every day to go to work. I can't decide what to do. Any one out there have advise.

Is it better to refuse job due to another job offer, or drama in work place?
I worked there 3 days.... I'm embarrased about leaving after just 3 days.. I don't agree with starting a new job and quitting like that, especially so soon. but, I had those issues going on and the supervisor came to me to talk about it, I didn't go to her and complain, Then, believe it or not, I get a call that day offering me a job with the place I had been waiting on for 6 weeks and didn't think I got it because it took so long,..,I wouldn't of taken another job if I thought there was a chance or that happening..totally surprised me.....

I gave my notice--now I'm on the RADAR
The next shifts should have noticed the med on the MAR and questioned its where abouts.. Just a word of advice. Its always a good rule of practice to dot all your i's and cross all your t's before leaving for the day.. that way you can not be blamed for not doing your job... Not everyone will have your back so you have to have it for yourself..., but, I think the other shifts should have a talking to as well., It is part of their job, not to mention the scope of practice, to find out where meds are that are on the MAR....Hang in there

Is it better to refuse job due to another job offer, or drama in work place?
What do you all think?... is it better to refuse a job offer and tell them it's because you got another job offer or tell them it's because of the drama in the work place..... Here is what happened..... During the interview I told "xyz" that I was waiting to hear back from "abc" but they did not get back with me so I moved forward and ended up in the interview for "xyz".then .... "xyz" hired me and from day one the gals I worked beside and training me would not even look me in the eye, answer my questions with much detail and wouldn't let me help do anything... One of them even disrespected me and hollered at me in front of doctor for something totally uncalled for.. The nursing supervisor found out and apologized for their behavior and told me they weren't happy I was there because the spot I was hired for was for one of them and she didn't want to go... so the supervisor moved me to another area to train with someone else.. Asked me to think about it and she wouldn't blame me if I quit but to let her know by AM... Well that very day, I got a call from "abc" and they offered me the job I had been waiting for since 6 weeks back.. working for federal gov... I don't know what to tell "xyz" they are calling begging me to come back and that gal called me crying and apologizing to me.... wow.. I don't know what to tell them.. Any advice?

LPN license renewal: what's the policy if not actively practicing as LPN
does anyone know what the policy is for renewing LPN license if not actively practicing. I have been offered a job as a Health Technician so will not be actively working in LPN role. Hope to move into this position once I get my foot into door. I don't know how long this will take so I may have to renew license while not actively practicing as LPN.. does anyone out there have any advice?

LPN has 2 job offers; 1 for VA clinic as Health tech and 1 LPN private clinic. help
thats exactly what I am hoping for. Being of middle age, I still need to help support my family while trying to get my RN so if I can get help with cost and then a job offer after school thats even better... I heard the VA was a good job and that it is hard to get your foot in door.. Now I'm just waiting for the phone call to set up my physical, fingerprinting, and drugtesting so I can begin working.. It is such a long process. It took 5 - 6 weeks to get the job offer itself.. UUGGHHH!!.. But we are holding on making it through day by day..

Wow, good to hear... I was worried about not actively practicing as a nurse and hoping it wouldn't affect my career chances in the future.. :)
