  1. I never feel guilty for not working on my days off.
  2. The hospitals that hired me, all called me less than a week after me applying. Other took months before calling. One place called me about a position, in a different specialty than I applied for. Definitely follow up and show your continued interest.
  3. ...And where in NY have you been applying?
  4. NurseFairy, how long was your hospital orientation before you started on the unit, and when you started orientation on your home, were they flexible the scheduling so that it did not interfere with your cuurrent job. Thank you in advance.
  5. How did you snag a job there? Did you apply online or in person?
  6. What do you mean I will "get used to it"? We shouldn't get used to working in unsafe working conditions. And you have a union??? I'm putting in for a transfer ASAP. You might be "used to it", but I deserve better.
  7. Having Press Gainy and HCAHPS shoved down my throat every week doesn't exactly make my day.
  8. They do not update their list of license info only twice a year. It's updated regularly. If you passed the NCLEX, your name and license number will show up in a few short days. My number showed up 2 days after I took the exam.
  9. I think Beth Isreal School of Nursing has a track where you can finish pre-reqs, but I'm not sure. Try there. Also, try visiting the NY Nursing Programs forum on this site to read about different programs in NY.
  10. Right now, you are trying to take pre-requisities. You can do this at CUNY while you research second degree nursing programs. You would just be consider 'pre-nursing'
  11. Where in NY are you? upstate NY? NYC? If you are in NYC, have your tried any of the CUNY colleges?
  12. Update: I was successful at landing another job before my year was up. I'm now working 2 jobs. Bumping the thread up to read of other experiences.
  13. HEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLP: ***opens thread*** "I need someone to rate all the nursing schools in X state from best to worst" OR: "I graduated NS. Now what?" " I scheduled my NCLEX. Now what?" "I passed my NCLEX. Now what?" "I received a job offer, did the pre-employment background, etc, was given my start date, hourly rate, etc. Now what" "I clocked into work. Now what?" ** OK, I'm being silly here. OR: " ATTENTION, I have an announcement. After X amount of time in NS, I have decided to quit NS. The reasons are {insert 10 million reasons here} Noone is going to change my mind, do don't bother trying to convince me to stay. I just wanted to announce to AN that I was quiiting."
  14. Can you tell me where I can find this law, because I know a few new grads who were hired straight into the ER right here in NYC, and most did not go through an ER fellowship or have any med surg exp
  15. I agree. With every interview I had, I applied for the job online, that's it. No follow up with HR. The places I DID follow up with, I got nowhere with.
  16. Very frequently. I love to read, love discussion boards. And I REALLY learn a lot from reading these threads. Reading stories, debates, etc have helped me get answers correct on nursing school exams and have helped in my daily nursing practice.
  17. Walked away from a patient in respiratory distress. Thank goodness the MD and RT were there. The nurses on that unit didn't have the greatest reputation. I guess her phone call was more important.
  18. Apply, apply, apply. Even for positions that say exp preferred or required. My first job was advertised saying exp preferred, my second required years of exp I did not have. Side note: the places the called me back, I NEVER followeed up with them. My resume spoke for itself, I guess. The places I DID follow up with after sending my resume, I got nowhere with. Their loss.
  19. Have someone look at your resume and cover letter. Also, if you haven't already, start applying to places in person.
  20. I would have enjoyed life more. It hurt badly to work hard in school and watch slackers and classmates who barely went to class get jobs before me.
  21. Hi, I'm so sorry you are going through this. I understand that you work in a nursing home, but what type of unit do you work on that makes it so busy? What would I do? Honestly, hang on as long as I can until I found something else. But that is just me, YOU have to decide what is best for you. Good luck!
  22. I have never been so unhappy in my life. How I lasted this long, I have no clue. I keep thinking that I will wake up and realize that this was all a nightmare. I started sending my resume out and got some calls. I really hope one of them leads to a new job. There has got to be something better than this.
  23. Coler-Goldwater is hiring LPNs right now. I believe there are 7 positions open. Contact them ASAP.
  24. If I got an offer for my dream job, I would leave current job without thinking twice. But that's just me.
  25. And I bet there is a long line of applicants waiting to apply to the school. As long that there are people willing to pay "whatever" to get into a nursing school, then these schools will remainin business. Hmmm, I think I'm in the wrong profession. Maybe I should open up a Nursing School. I'm kidding, I'm kidding)
